good point! The difference is huge! I think that is a really important issue for mtb. The only thing is that in those trails sometimes you get low light and shades and there is when hypersmooth doesn't work properly. To me, the only weak point of the electronic stabilization. Thank you!
The best features for me are the 12GB File Size increase and you can now change filenames!! Motion Triggered Recording and Reelsteady option for the app is going to be useful as well...
Biggest reason why I don’t do POV vids anymore. Gimbal set up limits group ride fun. Even tried with the fusion and never got to the point where I felt it was good enough.
Bro this is rad! I haven’t used the boost mode cause it’s been way too cropped, but yours looks good! I’ve been using the chin mount because I prefer the angle, but this is now a great option if I don’t feel like wearing the full face.
im just saying that you have your ISO limit way to high. notice that white explosions when you get out of the shadows zones. try to set it 100-800 limits and try it good video
You never mentioned the distortion that's happening at the handle bars with Boost on. As the software stabilizes the background it just has to let the handlebar foreground distort Did you not notice it? Definitely worth talking about in a feature review.
To be fair the handlebars were moving a LOT more violently on the boost footage since that clip was taken on the same trail but riding a race carbon hardtail. Considering how shaky it felt riding that bike vs what the footage looks like I'm honestly impressed. However If you must have the absolute best and stable footage obviously a physical gimbal is the way to go. My channel mostly uses POV footage for B roll so this is more than sufficient for my needs, with minimum hassle. I do think with better lighting the results will be even better.
For inflight recording ❓Do GoPro cameras have an option to record a video overlay with GPS altitude and GPS ground speed❓ OR is the Garmin Virb a better choice for the plane❓
@@mtbsavant5414 Thanks for the quick answer. Is there a video that explains how to overlay the gps Altitude and Ground speed on to the videos I record while flying?
The bars and stem look jittery in the frame, I think that’s the hyper smooth trying to smooth things out digitally, including the handlebar movement. This is why I prefer a gimbal, more hassle to ride with but much better video quality. Digital stabilisation is insanely good these days with hypersmooth, but I’m guessing it’ll still take many years to fully match the level of gimbals.
Considering the boost footage was taken in darker lighting and riding a carbon hardtail I'm pretty blown away. Yeah I've used a gimbal for over 3 yrs and we're "close enough" where I might be ready to ditch mine.
@@mtbsavant5414 For sure. It blew my mind when I first saw the release of Hypersmooth. Although not perfectly matched to gimbals (yet), I think it's worth ditching it considering the significant weight and bulk it saves. Anyways, awesome quality video as always 👍🏻
It looks nice and smooth! Have you used the GPS on the GoPro? I have it set to ON but it never seems to collect the telemetry. I mount it on a chesty, upside-down plus riding in the forest it may cause the signal to get blocked. Any tips?
damn! That is hella sick! I haven't been able to get the chest mount to work at all with the Hero8 and since it's not exactly gimbal compatible, i've just caved and started wearing my full face again for a chin mount. I did film a thing in Boost without the superview once and wasnt very impressed but now there's Boost with superview, this might be the game changer?
@@mtbsavant5414Yea i'd be pretty stoked to see how that goes. Last time I ran boost on the chest, I wasn't too happy with the results but hopefully this will be better. Gonna be a while though, feeling kinda lazy to remove the gopro from my helmet now that I have all the angles and stuff dialed... HAHAHA ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-24LgdNQkSyI.html
So here's what I'm noticing: Hypersmooth boost is way smoother, but seems to lose focus and attention to detail in certain bumpy sections. I just don't like it as much. Yes it's smoother, but lacks the focus. Maybe it'll improve, who knows?
One thing I didn't mention is that the boost footage was taken on a race carbon hardtail bike, and considering how it rattled my teeth I was honestly pretty blown away with the stabilization. Further testing needs to be done on a FS bike and improved lighting conditions.
@@mtbsavant5414 Okay yeah that'll probably add to that effect. But I am slightly worried about how it loses focus. Same thing happens when you watch a professional racer like Cathro below's footage. They're going so fast that even the focus point on the camera becomes a bit blurry.
How does firmware work after beta? If I download the beta, get this feature, will it every go away (perhaps of I ever go and download a new firmware update)?
Hi everyone, I have a problem with my Gopro Hero 8, I ride MTB and I mounted it with a Chestmount. The settings were 4k 30fps hypersmooth Boost in Superview (i tested the beta firmware) and the bitrate was on high. I am currently still using the included memory card from GoPro (Sandisk Extrem 32GB). The videos I shot on a trail which is not so extreme in my opinion are not usable. Do you have any idea what could be the reason? Thanks a lot. Best regards Dominik
Seems you haven't discovered hypersmooth while filming in 1440p it allows a larger crop so it's even smoother. Been doing this for over a year on my GoPro 7
HI MTB Savant. Thanks for the video. I just want to know if you still have this firmware on your go pro 8. If yes, how has it been still? Thanks and ride safe always! =)
Curious why you film in 4K but only upload to a max of 1080p? As far as my opinion of hypersmooth vs boost, I think boost provides a more cinematic experience by smoothing out the roughness of the trail, whereas hypersmooth looks and feels more visceral.
Awesome, I've been waiting for this. If they don't end up adding it officially to the firmware I posted a how-to of doing this in post using the old GoPro Studio software ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-356Wd_5YLXU.html
