Although they had the event in Beijing, the company is actually based in Shenzhen. Make sure you won't go to the wrong city when you execute the steal LoL.
I truly love your video. Not only you talk but you actually show the pros and cons. SO many youtubers keep talking about some technical specifications what half the people do not even understand, yet you never see why something is important. Thank you, I was smiling half the videos of you proving something (for example stabilization)
I am watching you from India, you all 360 videos helped me to choose right 360 camera for my channel.. you are doing the good and learnt alot from you. Thanks
SOLD! Thank you for explaining your pros and cons so clearly. I was able to align them to my own expectations of usage, and the cons became a non issue for what I'll be doing with it. So to me you effectively explained how this camera is very nearly perfect!
I just watched this video on 3rd December 2021 having bought the 360 Max in November after a bit of searching around the net. I don't think any of the Cons would have put me off 2 years ago, and they certainly do not today! The post-recording ability to Reframe is awesome and Horizon Levelling also. As 360 cameras go this one is still right up there with the competition, perhaps not with the 1080p but I can forgive it for that. The hardware, the software and the apps ... a nice little ecosystem right there.
This Is How We Bingham the old Fusion extendable tripod/selfie stick obviously works perfectly too. BUT the GoPro El Grande mount shows up in the video so it's not great.
It seems that it falls short in photo and timelapse mode, I'll wait for Gopro to fix those before I get the Max. Additional underwater case is also on the list. Great review Ben, thanks
Another great video Ben 👏🏻I was watching this in 720 and when you were walking past the flowers doing a tiny planet, the flowers looked pixelated and messy. It’s probably because of RU-vid’s video compression but it was surprising. The problem was fixed on 1080
My GoPro Max just arrived yesterday and I took it out to a shoot immediately. Already in love and definitely think the pros outweigh the cons. I suspect a firmware update will bring raw photos to the max since I saw on GoPro's support page that max can take raw photos. I'm assuming the article is early in front of the software update. Here's to hoping!
Good review, with the exception of the clear protective covers. I live in a sunny climate (Las Vegas) and when the sun hits a cover, glare and specks abound even after ensuring they’re clean. So I’m living dangerously and shooting without the clear covers
I just bought one for my skateboarding videos. My channel is very unpolished, but I feel this camera will add another level to it. I have only uploaded 1 video with a few clips from it the first week but I am already filming with it more than my cannon M50. This is the first time I have upgraded my GoPro since the Hero 5.
nice review so thanks. The Max has some great selling points. We find the image quality of the output 360 footage to be somewhat disappointing when using it with our H7B; and especially compared with today's Insta360 cameras. Hopefully GoPro can find a solution to improving image quality. Thanks again for this review.
I just got the GoPro Max for my birthday and doing some research about it since it is my first time owning/using one. This video is pretty helpful and informative. Thank you!
Very informative Mr. Claremont, thank you. The Gopro Max is my first 360 camera; never been a fan of all the distortion. Then I got one as a gift...being able to reframe, zoom, have an invisible stick and so much perspective is mind blowing. Technology is always changing and the world is devided when it comes to desktop ...Mac or PC. So far all my reframing has been through a mobile app not an issue there. Desktop users... need to remove the sd card to transfer files. The devision is clear Mac users don't seem to have a problem, Pc users should save themselves some anguish and edit on a mobile device until the Professionals at Gopro fix the bugs. Excellent video Mr. Claremont...Aloha.
Nice review....straight to the main points....I've just purchased one but not done much with it yet...so early days....thanks for the video Ben....Cheers 🍺.
I got 360 photos with my Dji spark and I like how you can view them in google photos on my iPhone and can use the gyroscope to look around it’s so sweet. I have a go pro 7 black and I’m happy with it
Thank you Ben for the highly detailed video! On the rocks on whether the get the Max or simply wait and see if some of the cons you mentioned will be addressed with a new version of it. My plan is to use it for scuba diving and that seamed stitching from your fountain test made my eyes burn! Keep up the good work!!! Greetings from Malta. 🇲🇹☀
Just gone one (second-hand) to film myself skating. The lens protectors seemed like a nice way to protect the camera, but I've found the stitching takes such a hit when they're on as to make the footage unusable. Didn't hear anyone mention this about the Max until I started googling this specific issue. Oh well, guess I'll just have to risk it and be careful without those on - that's also the reason I didn't want to splurge on a brand new 360 cam in the first place.
great video.. I subscribed.. I tried the clear plastic lens covers at night, and it totally ruined my shots.. there was lots of glare, reflections and distortions.. Not good.. I like the camera.. lots of great stuff.. The one big down side for me is the lack of Slow Motion...
I had a problem with the fx reframe plug in and it was a conflict with the insta360 plugin - once I deleted that it worked fine. Suggestion on one of Hugh Hou’s videos.
Hmmm.. I seen another video saying that this camera stitches the video inside the camera. I have the original Fusion myself. You didn't mention the in-camera stitching. This would make the workflow much better. I'll stick to my GoPro Fusion however.
Just waiting for you to get a hold of the Kandao 8K!.. I think this is the one I've been waiting for to upgrade. The only thing that worries me is the non removable battery but with charge while filming and a suitably large external battery pack I think it will be okay. I like where gopro is going, but it's not what I want, I have 5 other gopros for that stuff.
I wonder if they could just have firmware that can detect when the camera is underwater and apply a different stitching algorithm to the footage when the lenses are being affected by being surrounded by water. I'm guessing the Max has no in-built barometer so any "underwater mode" would need to be manually switchable, but in future models this could most likely be detected automatically.
Thanks for the review, Ben - helped me to decide!! Just curious, what camera and mic did you use for the parts of your video taken in the room?? They're awesome.
Thanks for the great video. I have been thinking about buying a 360 camera. After watching your video I know for sure I will not being purchasing one. The main thing I've hated about any Gopro cameras is the " fish eye " warp in the videos. I also realized there is really no practical use for the camera unless you are looking for warped videos. Thanks for saving me from spending $500+ on a camera I can't use. Thanks again for the video.
OK, well I'm going to try to use the dome lens protector just under the water shooting Pano only. I bet I can get some stills and footage before the dome floods. More soon when the camera actually arrives. Great Pros & Cons review. Thanks Ben!! Good content and always entertaining.
Thank you Ben, great review. For me the best option is the Hero mode with auto Horizon leveling. Mountain biking in low light condition (forest), wet and muddy circumstances etc etc. The Insta was not capable to do this in bad light condition (always motion blur also with faster shutter turned on) and need to have the waterproof case. The Max is really good in this and will take away my use of gimbals Still I will be using the "great" Insta 360 One X for other shots like: drone-like shots and the b-rol. You can see the results in my latest video's on my channel, please take a look if you like?
cons - lower frame rates in 360 mode and in hero mode. besides that it's about the perfect camera. if gopro does the gopro 9 just combining the 8 and the max as an all in one for the 9 and you would have the perfect action video camera !
Since when the bubbles in front of the lenses will not affect your recording? Since you have sun straight to the lenses you will have reflections because of the bubbles aren't Anti-reflective.
Actually no, I have the MAX and whenever I use the protective bubbles I can always see them in the shot, it creates a odd effect and massive lensflares due to the bubble
One more CON...does not sync with the remote which means when skiing and snowboarding I am back to manual and checking its on vs tapping my wrist (I wear it on my cuff strap)...works with the Fusion.
Can you record both cameras at the same time and separate the footage, say you put one on top of your Porsche, can you have separate clips to record the front and back of the car? @BenClaremont
Hi, Ben... Thanks for your evaluation about GoPro Max - I agree that MAX could be better, maybe with 8K videos, buuuut... would this format feasible for us actually???... I also became curious about your comments, in general... Could I conclude it would be better to buy the FUSION instead the MAX camera?...
Do you still use this camera, or has the Q8K taken over? I'm about to buy my first 360 camera and I can get the 360 Max for $400 through GoPros subscription deal. I REALLY like the camera replacement policy and this alone almost makes it worth it for me. I'd use it 100% for creating 360 videos for OC2. I carry DSLR's for stills.
I’m just wondering? From what you said this would be a great camera for someone like me who vlogs all the time, And maybe records 360 video every so often!
yes I bought the Max, the PC software is very poor I said that it does not directly matter the 360 videos, I have to convert them first to MP4 and it seems to me that they lose quality ....... I am happy to have it anyway. I will be even more happy when I can use it when I can travel (Fuking Covit ..)
WOW, THIS IS MY SECOND VIDEO TODAY FROM THIS CHANNAL AFTER BUYING DE MAX.....I DONT KNOW WHY I DIDNT FIND THIS BERFORE....GREAT JOB....CLEAR ....STRAIT ....
One year in and I’m just now considering getting the GoPro Max. I’m not really into the crazy globe effect. What I’d really like to see are footages of store facades along the street, for example, when you walk past by them using the Max. This can’t be achieved by non-360 cameras… so it would be interesting to see. And how the footage will look like when reframed or being edited. I mean… can they look linear/ as straight as a building w/out the crazy fisheye/ 360 effect? Hope you can respond to this. Thanks for this great vid, Ben, cheers!
Love the review. How much of this stuff could change with a firmware update? And do you think Gopro will update the firmware to change some of these cons.
Let's hope they don't repeat the 'orphan' status they gave to the Fusion. The desktop software was updated once , still crashed , premiere pro plugins worked then didn't (sound familiar?) . New Player is not backwards compatible with the Fusion. Max looks like the beta version of the fusion, but isn't
@@SkaterStimm Ok, but how about hundreds of images, is it possible to do batch processing? Is the Max capable of interval shooting and what are the ranges, every 1s, 2, 3 etc?
@@thewizardofoh The GoPro Player you could easily make an Automator job if you needed it. Most people open their photos to inspect them (horizon leveling is already done automatically), just hit save.
Thanks for the input- yes would be great to be able to batch level them as it’s much easier to inspect multiple photos when they’re level to begin with 👍
another great video! Please, you can buy with the insta360 one x?. I want to know if the image quality is better or worse. I don't think sound is the most important thing because it's best to record with an external recorder to get the best possible sound quality
The Max has a setting in-camera that the Hero 8 Black does not, automatic horizon leveling. Wasn’t included in your review, and you made it a con instead.
I did mention that you can level in the app.. but for images transferred straight to the computer it doesn’t. This is a big con for anyone using it for google street view and taking lots of photos at once.
Ben Claremont Isn’t Horizon Leveling also an in-camera setting for the Max, which automatically corrects footage without the need for processing as shown in these samples here? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I4ZD8wnbehg.html community.gopro.com/t5/en/What-is-Horizon-Leveling/ta-p/398907
Hey Ben - love your channel! We are just getting started shooting 360 movie reviews using the Fusion. Is the MAX worth the upgrade or do you recommend a different model. We don't care about stabilization since our camera is stationary... For us - we are more interested in the final 360 video resolution/quality and ability to do modest color grading.
Why don’t you just superglue the lens protector on to the camera that way you keep the water out of it and your lenses are completely clear just a thought you can always remove it later but it would keep the water out and make it watertight
