I'm thinking of buying this in 2021, that's how I find this video. Great video and advice! How about the battery life and ease of editing longer 360 videos?

Hey gerard! Its a great camera! Very fun to use! So the battery life when u shoot in hero mode is fine, but when shooting in 360 it does ran out rather quick. Id suggest buy an extra battery, but if u cannot, thats fine… stick to shooting 360 video clips of not more than 3-5seconds at a stretch and switch off the camera to conserve battery life😁. Ease of editing is there! Its super easy to edit on mobile specially, i have a video on my channel…explaining how to edit 360 footage, I usually avoid shooting long 360 vids like i said, shorter clips just make it easier to edit! But if u like…. U can shoot longer and edit using the GOPRO PLAYER on desktop or mac and u should be just fine bud! 😁

hello! what setting would be ideal for lets say taking a video on a roller coaster? max super view lens and 360? do you still hold the camera slightly above your head and extend your hand far or with max super view the camera can just be near you and still get that 360 view?

HEY! ON A ROLLER COASTER YOU CAN USE 360 MODE! AND REFRAME IN THE APP AFTER. IN 360 MODE THERE IS NOT LENS SELECTION LIKE MAX SUPER VIEW, CAUSE ITS SHOOTING 360 DEGREES WITH BOTH LENSES. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO SHOOT 360 VIDEO THEN YES CHOOSE EITHER THE FRONT LENS OR THE BACK LENS IN HERO MODE AND THEN PICK MAX SUPERVIEW TO GET THE WIDEST SHOT! IF YOU SHOOT IN 360 MAKE SURE ONE LENS IS FACING YOU. IF YOU SHOOT IN MAX SUPERVIEW DO THE SAME. HOLDING IT ON A REGULAR GOPRO MAX TRIP OR ON THE GOPRO SHORTY TRIPOD IS A DECENT LENGTH IF YOUR IN 360 MODE. BUT IN MAX SUPERVIEW U WILL NEED TO FRAME UP YOUR SHOT STILL TO SEE WHAT ALL YOU GET IN THE FRAME AND DEPENDING ON WHAT TRIPOD OR STICK YOU USE. U CAN ALSO MOUNT THE CAMERA ON YOUR HEAD USING THE HEAD MOUNT, THAT SHOULD BE FINE IN MAX SUPER VIEW, BUT IN 360 MODE YOU NEED TO ANGLE IT CORRECTLY SO THAT YOU DONT GET CUT OFF.

Do you or anyone else know if you can "dewarp" the 360 image, because I'm more interested in the reframing aspect, than the "fish-eye-tiny-planet" look of the 360 video. So putting it into 16:9 in the app, would it also flatten (as in a warped image) the image?

Hey yeah when u do reframe it’s totally in ur hands what u want the final 16:9 image to look like. Ofcourse once u reframe to 16:9 the wider u keep the shot! The more curved or warped the image will look! So if u zoom into ur frame the curve or warp reduces. But ive noticed a tree or a lamp post still has that distorted look to it. U can refarme in the gopro app- export the footage to ur computer in 16:9 and then use final cut pro or adobe premier pro or davinci resolve and apply distortion correction by using a plug in for those editors

Impressive video. Just curious. How can I get a complete 360 view of my surrounding scenery without me being in the shot. Would this be on top of my helmet and how from the top of the helmet must it be? I want to catch 360 scenery while riding a bike across Japan. Which 360 would be best?

Thank you! It yu put it on ur helmet! There will still be some of you in the shot…. But yes that would be the besy way to do it! Id say put it a bit high using a suction cup or helmet mount. Then u can try snd reframe in a way where ur not in the shot. U could also try and rig an extension pole coming out of ur bike and mount the gopro on it at the end if the pole …this can give u more flexibilty to show ur surroundings but since ur on the bike it will capture u aswell. That being said reframing will be easy and u can hide ur self pretty well.

@@KickAssets anytime!! im glad I could help! so I personally own the max and I love it. I think gopro is a reliable brand and that's what got me to buy a product by them! and ever since then ive been hooked. so while I absolutely love the max and always recommend it to people....I cannot deny the Insta 360 x2 is a power house and beast of its own. its a newer camera than the max but its not that much more feature packed. both these cameras come down to the wire and are very similar. its gonna be a personal choice 😁. Unfortunately there are no rumours about a new max coming were all hoping it does, but leaks strong enough to indicate anything. id say if u need a tech product today, u buy it today, if u can wait till September .....then wait and see if a new max comes out, if it doesn't u can still buy this one! 😁

Hey! It really is amazing!! I doubt thats possible….u can shoot a 360 file in 5.6k but u cannot export in a quality higher than 1440p. This is a limitation on most 360 cameras on the market. Maybe because of thermal Issues.

@@NITINCHAWLA i have never used the app, since i edit my gopro max videos to turn them into a holiday movie for my family. With the gopro player installed on my pc, you can load the .360 files from the camera, and convert them. On the gopro website, but also on youtube you can find a tutorial how this works. The gopro player itself is a great software. But currently limited to export in 5.7k h264 mp4. However exporting to 4k is not a problem. After export, i continue to use Magix video software to further edit my footage.

@@WiljanWiljan thats a great workflow….although for me the gopro max is one of the cameras that I use, So i convert it to 1080p on througg the app, and export the footage off my hero 9 …. Through the app - airdrop it to my mac and then just edit the entire footage in final cut pro x & export the final in 4k😁. But each person has their work flow if comfort as do the both of us! I do agree that the max would be soo much better at 5.7k

Unfortunately I purchased the Insta 360 x2. Big mistake, I should have got the go pro max. The Insta has so many technical issues I had to return mine. There are a lot of complaints about the Insta. One of the reasons why I went with the Insta is a lot of the reviews said the editing for the go pro max is very difficult due hard to learn. Is that true? Also, do you know where their tech support is located and are they any good?

WITH RESPECT TO THE GOPRO MAX THERE IS NO DOUBTS ITS A BANGER CAMERA AND EDITING IT IS SUPER EASY! MOBILE EDITING VIA THE QUIK APP CAN BE LEARNT SUPER FAST … I DO HAVE A VIDEO ON IT. WHERE AS TECH SUPPORT FOR GOPRO ...WELL THEY HAVE SERVICE CENTRES AROUND THE GLOBE … BUT THEYRE ONLINE FORUMS ARE A GRET PLACE TO GET SUPPORT! FAST N RESPONSIVE! :D

Makes sense, maybe hold off for 2 months till the new gopros are released and if a max comes go for the new one! If not then the old max is still strong/ available & wont disappoint you!

I went with the OneX2 due to it thinner form factor, shot labs quick edits in the phone app, and the easy to mount screw at the bottom. But it is hard not to say they are both great cameras, because they are, and you can't really 'lose' buying either one.

Hi! No no its quite easy & quick, u can do it all on your phone itself! Reframe the shots in the gopro app! And edit the reframed clips in thr gopro app itself or you could use other mobile editing apps as well! Its faster than most people would imagine!

so i always recommend shooting shorter clips, to keep file sizes down, the longer ur clips, larger the files sizes and that has no limit. Ive bene using the max for 2 years almost, ive never really thought it was difficult to use tbh. And im not sponsored by gopro. The iphone 12 is powerful its got the a14 chip inside & you should have no issues editing. Like i said computers are a different story and u will Probably need a power full pc for any video editing. Stick to mobile editing and you should be fine. 64gb in general isn’t a lot so plan your shoots and keep space free when u need to edit!

I like how easy it is to frame the footage in the Quik app but the app will only output the footage in 1080p. Right?

Thats right! Although! If you download the gopro desktop app for mac or pc you can up res it to 4k! But yes on the app its 1080p!

So it depends on what stick you use, a thinner stick with a thinner grip will hide well, i do believe the gopro max pole is thin in enough.... insta 360 has the bullet stick and the base of that stick is way thinner than the base of the camera.... i may be wrong. But u can try using a thin stick on the max and u should be fine

Hey good to hear from you! So after a little bit of research, i found that gopro finally said that its okay to use the max under water, its just that try and shoot in hero mode and not 360 mode cause as you can see there is a stitch which comes into play after you shoot 360 & that could look a little warpy. But u can use it underwater without a case. But if underwater is your main priority, id suggest go for the hero 9 as you have tons of manufacturers who make special filters (red/ blue / green diver filters ) for the hero 9 / hero 8 also if your up for getting a camera thats a bit older & these filters will give u an amazingly clear picture if ur diving or just trying to snorkel. @@NITINCHAWLA thank you for your fast response. I am not looking into diving but taking this camera on family trips and once in a while shoot under water. I just hate to have to take a case just for under water and a regular one for my bike helmet. The least I have the better I am. It is an expensive camera and want to make sure I don’t damage it. I understand not to do 360 under water and I think I had seen that you have to place a cover maybe on one of the lenses for that purpose. I guess I will be placing my order soon. Thank you again.

@@clavieala oh its going to be perfect for family trips! To be fair dont worry about cases, since its more of casual vacation use it’ll work just fine without any case. There is no need to place a cover on the lens to avoid 360, there is a control to shoot with single lens and to shoot 360 (when u turn on the camera, its in the menu on the screen), just choose single lens. @@NITINCHAWLA thank you very much. I do have another question for you. I just tried the hero 7 and returned it as I noticed the max one. Now on the hero 7 it looked like, when using the option to make a movie using the GoPro mode option, I could not see all my footage. It seems that GoPro uses only parts of your selected photos or portions of movies. Is there a way to manage your own movie or does it get randomly selected? Am I able to import selected photos and videos onto my iPhone and then using iMovie? Although I like the way they randomly pick and go back with great selection of songs sometimes I would like to edit my own way! Maybe on the Max there are more options after all! Hey I think ur talking about the gopro app! Yes if u shoot on the max or as a matter of fact on any Gopro and import the footage using the gopro app, the app can create an edit for you which like h said will be auto selected. There is a way to transfer ur files using the app itself and getting all the photos and videos exported from your gopro - to the gopro app on your phone - from there to your PHOTOS app on your iphone. U just need to export from the gopro app to your iphone. And then u can import the photos in to imovie and edit!

I went with the Insta360 One X2 and have no regrets, but the GoPro Max looks equally amazing. I'll wait for the next release of both cameras and possibly make a switch, but only if either one of them can up the resolution and work on the mics. I'm not sure when the new Max will be released, but probably worth the wait if you don't have it already.

@@kempkennedy3542 oh i cant deny the insta 360 one x2 is a gorgeous camera! And a tiny powerhouse in its own right! Yes! What ur saying makes perfect sense! And i wont be changing my 360 from the max to anything else untill we get a substantial upgrade! Also! Good to see you here on the channel 😁

I finally went with go pro max. But im not using it much. Adjusting angles in go pro player ; then again wditing the footage on premiere pro felt like a lot of work. i must look after : editing everything in premier pro as there is some plugin for 360 footage. *abt insta 360; My friend bought insta 360 one r (twin edition), I recently tried in on my bicycle - stabilization is so bad. Feels like : its broken. Wonder wats wrong with it. I didnt try the dual lens yet. Normal lens god serious issues. I must uplaod that shaky video to my channel soon.

@@sriabhi yes! There is a plug in on PREMIER PRO! that lets u edit 360 footage! Now im not a premier user! But its similar for final cut pro! I normally reframe on my phone and then just airdrop the footage to my mac on to final cut! And then edit there or ill airdrop from my phone to my ipad and edit in lumafusion using thr reframed footage! Ofcourse gopro player is another way that u can do it if your a computer editor only! Im not sure about the insta 360 one r! But i am aware they have a editing software of their own! That does let u add stabilisation in post! Also its supposed to have amazing stabilisation inbuilt to! Flow state is really good! Maybe just check out some videos and confirm! 😁

I have the OneX2 and love it, but I have a friend who has the Max and swears by it. Can't really go wrong either way!

Hi! Yes! H.265 is also known as HEVC! So if you want to record in h.265 you can go to your settings and choose HEVC and thats the same codec.

Really depends what u need to shoot and how you want to use it! Id honestly say if u can then both because of the benefits they give u, cause they’re totally different cameras. If thats too expensive then for regular filming hero 10 And more creative filming styles max
