This year's edition of the Goodwood Festival of Speed was particularly interesting due to the presence of many of the crazy street-legal supercars/hypercar unveiled in recent years. One of these is for sure the Gordon Murray Automotive T.50. The car has been engineered to be the purest, lightest, most driver-centric supercar ever and it has been created by ex-Formula 1 designer and engineer Gordon Murray, the man who also designed the McLaren F1. With the T.50, Murray celebrates his 50th anniversary of engineering and design.
Designing this car, Gordon Murray aimed to improve his acclaimed McLaren F1 in every conceivable way while maintaining many of the details and features of that iconic supercar. So as the F1, the T.50 has a naturally aspirated V12 engine this time developed by Cosworth (a 3,994 cc V12 called Cosworth GMA) which is able to produce 663 bhp at 11,500 rpm. It's linked to a 6-speed H-pattern manual gearbox. Redline is set at 12,100 rpm. The total weight of the T.50 in running order is just 986 kg. In common with the McLaren F1 is the central driving position, flanked by two passenger seats, reached through gullwing-opening doors.
The thing that most catches the eye is certainly the huge fan positioned at the rear and which of course references to the famous Murray-designed Brabham BT46B "Fan Car" Formula 1 car of the 1970s. Though the basic concepts are similar, the T.50's fan shares little with the BT46B one: electronically controlled and able to spin to 7000 rpm, it can increase downforce by 50 percent in its most aggressive setting, sucking air through ducts in the underfloor diffuser. This function is actually closer to what can be found on the McLaren F1. In fact that supercar had two small fans that acted on a small area of its rear diffuser. The T.50 essentially takes that concept and supersizes it. The fan can also be used to create a fill of air in the trailing wake, generating a sort of virtual long tail, reducing drag by 12.5 percent and increasing lift, which results in better efficiency and a higher top speed. All of this is done without a traditional wing or splitter.
Hear the high pitched sound of the Cosworth V12 in action on Goodwood's hillclimb course!

@@olekaarvaag9405 If you would monitor the car closely while on the run you would see that suspension/chassis setup is actually very fluid and not hard sprung at all. What you hear at launch is coming from the engine having very very low moment of inertia so you can quite literaly hear as it fights to gain traction through the powertrain (possibile even some kind of launch control mode) and has actually nothing to do with suspension setup. For example you can hear that exact same soundeffect when WRC cars are launching from the start or accelerate out of cery slow corners on gravel, and they are extremly soft sprung in that spec.

@@F1ll1nTh3Blanks and how are those 'efficent electric motors' you mentioned charged? By ridiculously inefficient fossil fuel burning power stations? And the batteries that power these supposedly efficient EVs? Do they happen to be made with Lithium? The same Lithium that is mined in a horrendously environment damaging way? The manufacture of Teslas is even more environmentally damaging than the usual fossil fuel burning cars (these cars were getting increasingly fuel efficient with far cleaner exhausts than ever before!) Then you also have to consider the limited battery life, batteries thats already limited lives will be shortened every time the battery runs too low or is charged too high. The fact that when the battery dies the car will most likely be written off due to huge costs of EV batteries. But none of that matters to those of you that have been brainwashed by Mr Musk. Tesla and Apple are cut from the same brainwashing, BS cloth! Keep drinking the Koolaid, keep consuming the substandard products with built in obsolescence! Unlike the Valkyrie, where the entire chassis is basically a giant subwoofer louder than the engine itself. But I miss the raw intake bass growl of the F1, which is uniquely old school V12 like the old Colombo Ferrari V12s - the low notes on those are spine tingling. Wow, just wow!! How nuts is the sound of that engine!! Also, most are referring to this car as a super car when we can quite comfortably say it is a hyper car.. Funny thing is, to my eyes it looks like a nice looking sports car! It’s only when yu get round the back when you realise there is obviously more to it, what with that mad looking fan thing spinning away! Once again, GM has smashed it out the park. Guy was born to do this! I wonder if and when we’ll ever get a chance to see a shoot out between T50, Valkyrie and that other Merc thing- sorry name escapes me! Gotta say, not only does the T50 look bat shit fast, it also looks super nimble whilst moving down the road and through those corner. Actually surreal to watch, especially seeing as there’s not the usual downforce visual cues via wings n aero. Looks like it shouldn’t be able to do what it most obvious can do! So we have a V12- check Crazy soundtrack- check Super lightweight- check Next level aero- check Three seats- check Not forgetting a manual gear shift!! Check And all rapped up in an unassuming sports car body that looks quite pretty to my eyes- save for the back where I do think that fan takes over a bit much. Give it a pass though spesh seeing as I know it’s most definitely not for show;)) Hale a golden era!!

Well the power to weight ratio beats the Hypercar Trinity of the LaF, P1 and 918. And wait for this, the Power to Weight of the T50S is the same as a Koenigsegg One:1 on regular petrol. So yeah, definitely Hypercar.
