Gosaikunda is a sacred alpine lake located in the Langtang National Park in Nepal, revered by both Hindus and Buddhists. According to Hindu mythology, it is believed to be created by Lord Shiva when he thrust his trident (Trishul) into a mountain to extract water to cool his stinging throat after swallowing poison. This lake is part of a larger chain of lakes and is situated at an altitude of about 4,380 meters. Gosaikunda holds significant religious importance, with thousands of pilgrims visiting the site during the annual Janai Purnima festival in August. The area around the lake is also known for its breathtaking natural beauty, featuring stunning views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.
Gosaikunda Trek Itinerary- Outline Overview
Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche (121 km, 7 hours). Trek to Deurali (5.4 km, 4 hours)
Day 2: Trek from Deurali to Lauribinayak (7.5 km, 8 hours)
Day 3: Trek from Lauribinayak to Gosaikunda Lake. Return to Deurali/Chandanbari (14 km, 8-9 hours)
Day 4: Trek from Deurali/Chandanbari to Dhunche. Drive to Kathmandu (5.4 km, 2 hours)
