Or you know how to diy a good alcohol stove. Tektoba is your friend if that’s the case. I make better wood and alcohol stoves than there are in the market. I honestly know they’re better than commercial stuff.

It is. I live in Canada and had to pay shipping. Also, CAD rate vs AUD is close but not the same… I paid the Australian price but in Canadian dollars. 28 CAD is actually 31.65 AUD. Not cool.

As always: Great video Ernie, thank you. I got the Era Booster rocket and the above one and also must say that they are one of my best stoves I own. Design and function is superb, quality is good. The only issue I would improve on the OP-100 was a coarser thread. It may take some approaches to close the lid with that fine thread and you need to watch out not to tilt and ruin it. The Era has a cool built in potstand, thats why this is my default one. Frohe Weihnachten.

Old Jack is known to be "thrifty" at a minimum and possibly could be labeled cheap. We (I) love alcohol stoves for use in environments where a wood fire is not possible. DIY burners fabricated and tested with our young troops are high on our favorites list. This new Goshawk absolutely "floats my boat" I actually like that the sealing ring appears to be silicone. It should do a good job of preventing a leak if ever we have to carry the stove with unused fuel, something I avoid like the plague. Yeah, this product will cause me to part with twenty bucks. I do wish there was a simmer ring but like Ernie often states, no product is perfect. Maybe there will be a DIY mod or a factory accessory to fill that want.

Merry Christmas. I normal take a collapsible wood stove I can put my alcohol burner in. Like cooking on free fuel outside my tent but on cold mornings I like the alcohol burner in the tent for coffee and warms me up at the same time. I have an 8 inch square cake pan I put the burner in so hopefully I don't burn my tent down while using it. Would love to try a woodburner in my tent but still kind of afraid of that hot tent idea.

Cool design, they also sell a mated pot stand/ windscreen for 7 USD. FYI, I tried solid fuel tabs in the EDDY-200 stove and the performance of the solid fuel was excellent, most efficient burn of solid fuel I have ever had with minimal residue. The EDDY 200 has replaced my Pocket Folder in my kit.

I just ordered one. Took me several days to settle the inner conversation with myself and that $14 shipping, and while I was deliberating (basically trying to accept the decision I already made, which was to buy it anyway) the makers of Goshawk sent me a coupon for $3 off. Which was very nice of them and so, long story short, in whatever weeks the thing will arrive and at which time I shall revisit this video. Thanks E.

Update: the stove (burner) finally arrived and right away I was eager to play with it. It burns nicely, boils water great, however, it cannot store fuel inside it like the much heavier Trangia. The goshawk leaks 😞 So it must be carried empty and I have to bring a fuel bottle.
@mikefule330
@mikefule330 4 месяца назад
Looks like a very smart little burner. Of course, you can't see how smart it is when it's actually in use inside that triangular windshield/pot stand. In direct comparison with a Trangia burner (only) it comes out well. However, advantages of the Trangia in comparison: Trangia offer several fully integrated sets so that the pans, windshield, lid plate, pot stand etc. all nest together; Trangia comes with a simmer ring which is genuinely useful; Trangia spares are widely available.
@carldwyer6058

So do Goshawk. This stove has a stand/screen, that fits on top, turn it upside down for a smaller storage size, and they have a 750 pot it fits inside too.

I like the flame pattern, and it appears that it would be stable due to its shape.
@tomnoyb8301
@tomnoyb8301 6 месяцев назад
Like the (11g) Capillary stove, Goshawk produces enough pressure to make a blue-flame. Both accomplish this (tiny) pressure by depriving the inner chamber from oxygen due to the outer fire smothering the inner's supply. Thus the inner pool-of-fuel remains cooler, while the outer chamber boils-off. Goshawk has a lid. Goshawk has professional appearance. Goshawk requires stand, while capillary has built-in stand (thus defining capillary a true stove vs Goshawk being just a burner). But it's the lighter weight that tips the scale in favor of Capillary-stove (11g vs 60g).

You can make this for free from an aluminium beer bottle. You can easily correct the flame pattern on a penny stove by moving the jets to the top, instead of the usual place on the shoulder.

Thanks for this Ernie, you cost me £37 pounds for a the stove, a stand and a stainless steel spoon, which includes £11 for shipping, which I think is nothing because it would cost me at least half that to drive to somewhere to find a rubbish stove to buy. I love the Goshawk ERA burner you reviewed, was using it the other day in the woods and it was very windy, soon boiled up my water tho. I do love the look of the Goshawk stoves, like you say, space age looking. Thanks for this review, I really value your opinion. Merry Christmas and a stovetastic new year!🎉👏🇬🇧😜

Goshawk makes some really great stoves. A long time ago you posted a video on one of their , Siphon Alcohol Stove Steampunk EDDY-X stoves. I got one and it puts my Trangia and even the Evernew titanium stoves to shame. Can't see where anyone could go wrong getting any stove from them and include a wind screen. The down side is it takes some time for the stove to make it over here , half the way around the world. So don't expect one overnight.

Merry Christmas Ernie - the free shipping was only to Australia - however I only had to pay $21postage to get two stoves and a mat from them so not all that bad really. Europe is almost $100 postage for something similar. I balked at that cost but three items $7 each item not really all that bad. I'm looking forward to getting it and trying it out. So far my favorite just out and about is the Toaks Siphon. Small almost indestructible and the only con for me is that you can't carry alcohol in it.

Wow…finally a real improvement on the Trangia burner concept. And there’s no question that Goshawk is cutting edge right now when comes to gear design. BUT, as someone else pointed out, that “free shipping” deal is only for Ozzie’s. And shipping from Australia would definitely be a deal breaker. Until we get a stateside supplier for this stuff, I’ll be sticking with my Trangia.

@chrishamilton2527 6 месяцев назад
It is only within Australia. My last Goshawk cost a fortune to post. It had two significant issues which stopped me using it; no lid and it drank fuel like a thirsty elephant. I particularly like cooking on small ethanol stoves as I use titanium pots and a small burner reduces the risk of hot spots and burning my creations. A Trangia can at least be throttled down. I do like this but it’s not for me.

I'm seeing in the comments. Time to boil 2 minutes less than Trangia and lighter. Being made of aluminum, how sturdy is the stove? How does the run time compare to the Trangia? Love my Trangia's need a very good reason to switch. Glad your back.

@JonJaeden
@JonJaeden 6 месяцев назад
It appears to be about the same height as the Trangia burner, but the Nano, using the fire sticks, elevates the Trangia. The design of the OP-100 would not match the fire sticks, so sitting on the bottom of the Nano, its distance below the bottom of the pot would be sub-optimal. Saw someone on Reddit who set the burner on top of the lid to raise it up, which worked, but also melted the plastic ring in the lid that prevents leaks.

Cons: 2. can't use in a stove that takes a Trangia style drop-in burner (no lip to hold it in place) 3. No simmer control, it's all-out or nothing. 4. Will definitely create a major hotspot in the center of a pan.

Pretty awesome design. However, one needs to be able to control the amount of flame (heat) unless your only goal is to boil water. A wide open Trangia, for example, is too hot for many types of cooks.

I agree & I like to use a slower cook system with simmering to actually cook & this does not impress me! I have many burners including the Trangia and just for fun I bought a Chinese KO of the Trangia in aluminum with a screw lid it’s super lightweight blooms super fast (under 3-4sec) and very fuel efficient without a simmer ring for $8 & I can simmer with it (Trangia & diy simmer top)

Flame jets pointing at an unusual angle is totally irrelevant to me. Cons: No knurling on the cap which could be an issue unscrewing in some conditions. And how do you extinguish the flame -- I don't see a damper cap? My Esbit looks to be functionally identical, but without the cons.
