man he's so adorable, I'm so sad he died. He clearly wanted nothing to do with the politics of westeros. He just loved his family and counted his allies as friends (aka Tywin), loved his food, wine and watching the Reach prosper. So what if he wasn't crazy sharp, his lords loved him as did his people and basically kept half of Westeros from starving. what a loveable guy
I love how they butter him up. He gets made master of ships, then master of coin, then they buff up his importance and send him to Braavos with "his very own kingsguard". He seems to be one of the only people in Westeros rewarded for being himself 😂
@@BaronOfAnarchyOlenna was the de facto head of the house but Mace was still the official lead of the house; so Mace still had to be included in everything and kissed up to
Mace Tyrell is actually one of the luckiest lords on the show. Unlike Ned, he got away with barely having to play the game. He was so oafish and harmless that people just let him be, leaving him to sing and enjoy the beauty of life in the Reach. Even his death was quick and painless. Ignorance (or flawlessly feigned ignorance) truly is bliss.
lol this is me in real life. I'm a ripped, in a highly competitive field and I don't play the slander game or dramas..I act like I don't know what's going on in that aspect and essentially like a pussy. So i'm left alone and they are unawares that i'm scoring highest in our class :D. They think i'm just an innocent, struggling like them hehe Sorry just needed to reveal myself
@@breitperformer9310 Damn dude, I can relate with that- I graduated with honours, keep out of office drama, unwilling form a strong opinion (or at least show it) keep my head down, work hard and get promotions, show just enough of your abilities and life to be perceived as capable or interesting but never too much that people can use it as leverage against you or perceive weakness. Nobody tries to compete with you directly or gets in the way and you can just peacefully hone your skills or bide your time.
@@ailathomas Mace tyrell runs high garden, and his daughter is queen. So if highgarden paid the debt, the crown would have to pay it off. It’s a cheesy remark, like if you ran the bank that your children went to
Miguel Álvarez I know this is a year old but finally someone agrees with me. I say he's one of the few characters that serves on the small council and is truly a good person. He loves his children too and shows no problem using his wealth and resources to benefit the crown. Yeah he's a fool but he's a good man. Plus he has a badass feather helmet.
@CommandoDude Many wise politicians played the fool in order to stay alive. Emperor Claudius was one such man-he was the fool in Caligula's court, until Caligula died, and Claudius ascended to the throne and proved he was anything but a fool. Maybe Mace would have shed his fool's disguise just as well once he got enough power to stop pretending.
Out of all the characters on the show, Mace Tyrell is one of the few I'd actually like hanging out with and just chill. He seems like you could joke around with him and have a genuinely good time. Everyone else is stuck up and overly serious all the fucking time.
@Leo Peridot Cersei just did the walk of shame, her uncle just got killed by Varys alongside Pycelle, and Daenerys just has just meeted the Dothraki again. The books are far behind lol.
The Tyrell's really were a powerhouse thnx to Olenna and Margaery, their downfall was brought upon them by playing it far to safe. A pity since they were easily such interesting characters that brought a breath of fresh air to Kingslanding
Helmets were very much practical, as the head was one of the most important parts of the body to protect. Theres a reason why helmets were the first bits of armor invented and are still used to this day.
I loved all Tyrells; actually Margaery was my favourite character in the whole show. Maybe Mace wasn't the smartest man in the world, but he was good-natured.
@plaguelock not necessarily, you don't have to like a character just because they grow or do not. Varys has remained a favourite despite not changing, same with Tywin. She's one of my favourites in the show because of how intelligent she is, certainly how she could control joffrey to some extent despite Cersei not being able to. She's intelligent, beautiful (yes, I admire her for her beauty) and she was one of the best players of the game. I would have loved to see how she would shape kings landing when with Tommen and not without the Sparrows.
Every time he speaks it makes me smile ‘Or I’ll have words with my daughter....” awkward silence Or Banker: I’m afraid I don’t partake Mace: Ohhhhh What a loveable buffoon, clearly he was a great and kind lord, I would have proudly pledged my loyalty to him in Highgarden.
in the books he seems like an oaf but is actually pretty smart if a little conniving. his sons however are actual badasses from what we see of them. mace is definitly a good parent
Head of House Tyrell, Lord of Highgarden, Defender of the Marches, High Marshal of the Reach, and Warden of the South. Also ace as fuck. Remember this!
Sigh, such a stupid nonsense and it is upvoted that much lol. If Stannis would do nothing. There would be no Tyrells allied with Lannisters. Nothing from this would happened. Whole story would be different from season 2 onwards and either Joffrey would be till king or he would be overthrown by Renly. If he did not killed Renly, Tyrrels would remained his allies and most likely they would crush the Lannisters alongside Starks If he did not fought at Blackwater Bay, there would be no need for Tywin to ally with them and so on and so on. Even if after Blackwater Bay he would not do anything, it is pretty clear that proper line of succession did not mattered anymore.
Very true, it was a bit silly But its not like the lannisters would try anything dumb over there since they still depended on the Tyrell's and the forces of the south are larger than theirs I believe.
A. New Paradigm I disagree. Some people give Tywin a pass and look how he treats his children. It never implies any of the Tyrells dislike Olenna and her barbs. She's also accepting of her grandson's sexuality despite the fact she should hate him for it. After all if he's gay who's going to carry on the Tyrell name. She busts their balls but that's because she's smart and powerful. It's not cruel or malicious just refreshingly honest. She killed Joffrey to spare Margery. She loves them dearly it's obvious.
A. New Paradigm - she was an absolute gem of a character. She was the complete opposite of Varys and Baelish. Where they gild the lily and play in the shadows she called a duck a duck and disarmed everyone she interacted with. If we judged characters as harshly on morals as you did, we would never have antiheroes
I was expecting Mace Tyrel to eventually turn out that he only acted stupid the whole time and in one episode trick the lanisters when noone expects it. It would have been a very "game of thrones" moment.
viktor varga sadly Game of Thrones isn't Game of Thrones since season 5. Season 4 was the last good season, now they make one horrible written season after another. Thats why I wasn't really excited for season 7 as I know that it will be worse. You can see this phenomenon in nearly every show. They start good but later fuck up. GoT is a prime example. If Mace Tyrell really wasn't a dumb highborn but a smart tactician who just tricked the whole pack of Westeros, THAT would be amazing and exciting. But the writers killed Magaery, who had a plan (she just played the role to the High Sparrow) just because they didn't know what to do with her later. D&D really fucked up the Tyrells, Dorne, Stannis, and the "the north remembers"-thing.
Actually in the books the lord of Dorne is like that, but since the show started going ahead of the book all the subtle quality dropped now its more action packed and the dialogues are empty
Imagine if Cersei didn't blew the sept how Tommen would have a good life. He was bold, empatic and virtuous. Married to Margery with Mace as a father figure. Cersei's made her worst mistake there.
The Tyrells were killed off for the worst possible reason: A rush to end the series, and there were too many characters for the writers to want to deal with.
*0:00* I've always loved the realism of that opening scene. He's Mace Tyrell. He isn't known as being very intelligent. Or a great battlefield commander. Or a warrior. (And in fact the only discussion within the show of his military "prowess" is how the vanguard of his army [led by Lord Tarly, not by Mace] once defeated King Robert, and how Mace mostly spent his time feasting during the siege of Storm's End.) But even so, he's not a complete buffoon. It makes sense why people follow him. He has a loud "battlefield voice" and his point is actually really motivating for the soldiers.
One thing that would have given Mace a true sense of “Oh, this dude *is* the Warden of the Reach” is if during the scene he leads the Tyrell troops into King’s Landing instead of some random guy calling out orders to his troops it was Mace himself finally showing up and letting loose with big booming commands and drawing his sword, ready to throw down himself to protect his daughter. Instead, he was a fool in armor and feathers
I know it was strange how everyone was treating him even tho he's a warden because Ned stark is the warden of the north,Twin Lannister is the worden of the south, Mace Tyrell is the warden if east, and Randel tarly is the warden of the west.
Yes, it is called acting. They shot a close up of him so we, the audience, could all see that and recognise the expression (because the producers assumed we are all functional human beings). But yeah good job putting a sticky note on it.
Easily one of the kindest and thoughtful of the lords of westerns but strategically and combat wise.....well let's just say he was good at what he did.
Did somebody fart @ 18:48 ? That was a weird noise 2:17- 3:57 Olenna was hilarious in her descriptions of her son and husband He seems like a sweet guy and does what his kids want to make them happy (make his sons boyfriend the king, marry his daughter to the king and make her queen), but he does seem to try too hard and kiss up to the Lannister's a bit.
Although she killed her enemies the people must hate her for not only avoiding her trial but for killing innocent bystanders and exploding a part of the city.
Sup Kevin. What it do? Personally, am not a big fan of the rewinds but, I can appreciate a few of them. I love your other vids. Thanks for the work, Dude. Happy to be one of your subs.
you forget that daenerys come to westeros with an army of stranger and barbarian. Try to picture that, if a christian king come to retake his kingdom with an army of muslim men at his back, do you think everyone will cheer and pray for him? Dont think so.
The Lannisters took Highgarden because much of the Tyrell army was elsewhere, following through Tyrion’s strategies; no one expected the Lannisters to sacrifice the now-worthless Casterly Rock for a chance to bring down Olenna for good.
@@Teslagg129 I'm pretty sure everyone knew it was her. It's not like there were a whole bunch of random people wandering around who could have done it instead.
