We had a kumquat tree we hated at first. Then our neighbor from Vietnam showed us something amazing. She cooked the kumquat and soaked them in honey. They are a natural remedy for allergies. And they taste amazing now. Give the kumquat another chance.

That sounds good, what do you cook the kumquats in initially? water & then soak in honey for how long & how to store. Would appreciate the info, we too have a Kumquat & not to appealing, thankyou

There are two main types of Kumquats. Nagami which is oblong in shape the skins are sweet but flesh is sour then the other type is Meiwa which is evenly round and sweet both skin and flesh. Meiwa is more difficult to find in cultivation but sounds like it's worth it.

In Hawaii they put the dirt from around a lychee tree that produces good fruit and spread it around the new tree to inoculate the tree with the bacteria that helps with getting it established

Longan quite hard to plant tho. Maybe because i doesn't have much knowledge. Only one out of 7 seed. But that one still living till now and it's getting bigger. Well it's only 3 month tho but i kinda like small plant like that.

Longan wood makes great cooking fuel. So even if it grows large but doesn’t bear fruit you’ll have fragrant timber

I been buying 2 fruit or 2 nut trees every week when we get paid, have a nice food forest going in to the future (in our house yard). Have been planting fruit trees in our bushland paddock (we have 2.5 acres now in Central Qld), mixing fruit & nut trees in with the bush tucker plants that are already everywhere in that paddock.

Unfortunately the 2 trees that mark purchased where not originally from daleys, daleys have purchased them at wholesale from other nurseries (lychee from arbour Grove, lime from B.W.P) then resale them as there own. The stock that are actually produced at daleys are lesser quality, there grafting technique needs improving. The dragon Fruit cuttings were most likely cuttings from there own stock.

Here's one. Rootstock shooting below the graft. Rub it off if you see it early enough, even then cut the bark with a knife to remove the flourishing bark/cambrian. Larger shoots cut off flush and trim like a carpenter building a piece of furniture to remove any raised spot that will shoot again. Doesn't matter if bark is missing, it'll grow over. When my grand dad was growing la chee tree in Hong Kong China , the tree had so many butterfly babies that hanging from the tree like rain from the sky . So be aware that you may have millions of caterpillars 🐛

Hay Mark, you can make a cover for your tree by making a "box" shape out of 1.5" PVC Pipe, strong enough to keep critters out, cover with a good netting and stake it to the ground. I also attach the netting to the pipe with zip ties. Works pretty good. Might work for you 😉

I am so jealous of your growing environment. It gets down to about -7 C here in the winter and it makes it hard to grow most perennials. The only exceptions I've found so far are berries and jujube. I tried an Owari Satsuma citrus that was supposed to be tolerant of my winter and it did well through several snows and even an ice storm, but died instantly when the temperature dropped into the extremes. I still get a great harvest of annual vegetables and fruits though 👍

I need a heated greenhouse to grow dragon fruit here. But I would love to have a go at them, Maybe another time, Perennial fruit and trees are an asset to any garden. Love those posts great way to preserve the timber and recycle the plastic and prevent it hit landfills. Great video Mark

You have given me hope! I don’t use my small backyard for much and most of it is weeds with a little grass here and there anyway, so this year I’m going to try to grow pumpkins and melons all over it. A few people told me I wouldn’t produce anything with it competing with grass, but you’ve given me hope that I might get some!

Some advice, be sure to cut the grass frequently before planting to prevent the grass growing too big and transplant saplings that are at least twice as tall as the cut grass so they don't get shadowed by it, the faster the grass grows the higher you want the sapling to be so the grass doesn't grow to cover it, after all, once you plant the saplings you won't be able to strim the grass without damaging your plants anymore.

My pumpkins grew just fine over my lawn this year, mowed the lawn down real low when planted and they took over the lawn once I harvested all the pumpkin I just mowed over trhe vine and the lawn returned in a few weeks. Have fun happy gardening

Oh it will take over if you let it, it should grow big enough before the grass gets too tall if you have a transplant. Just be careful the vines have tiny spikes, not to painful but better with gloves

@@redrangerrr558 Great advice for fruit trees, but pumpkins and melons don't care about the grass length, as long as they have a nice soil mound to start from. I always let a couple go in my mature compost pile.

I love that you're growing Lychee! It's one of my favorite fruits, even though it takes a lot of work to eat. You'll also get a ton of leaf mulch from it, which we all know is a HUGE PLUS! Thanks for sharing!

I just had a box from Daleys about a week ago, so exciting. The trees were bigger than I expected and super healthy. Will definitely buy from them again. Dangerous website though 😅😂 Next on my wishlist is kiwiberry - I love kiwi but not a huge fan of the skin. I've recently discovered kiwiberry and I am HOOKED. Grape sized kiwi with no fuzz? Amazing. Definitely high on my priority list after I get my edible hedge sorted.

I enjoy your videos as they inspire me to try. I live on 2.5 acres in East Central Florida. Currently I have a tiny garden with everything in containers ( we get lots of pests here, so it was easier to start out super small and slow). I purchased a yellow Dragon Fruit about 4 years ago and made a trellis out of a 25mm gal pipe and a old basket ball loop on the top. It took 4 years to get a couple of very large yellow, and white flowers that are about as large as a dinner plate and only last a day. This plant is a double reward plant with nice tasting fruit and fantastic flowers so you can't go wrong with these.i only got flowers after I fertlize it with seaweed the yellow variety plant is skinnier I've got the thorny one. The kaffir lime is also another good one but you remove the limes to gef better bajo shaped leaves which are unique.

I cant find much videos on garlic meadow. I believe thats what they are. I cant find much info on them. I live in San Antonio Texas and i found by a river what i thought was bunching onion so i transplanted them back home and now they have flowers with what i think is called "bulbettes" growing next to them. I would like to know more about them if you can help. Like how to eat them and what on the plant is edible. Like the bulbettes for example. Or if i can use the stem like chives.

My wife's uncle has (among others) a kumquat tree. He gives us a LOT of them whenever he harvests. I like them with almonds (they are so strong acidity-wise even though they're also sweet) as it pairs well and takes the edge off.

Love your orchard, it's just a shame I can never use any of those tips, because I would need a botanical garden style green house to be able to grow any of those trees in my climate, haha.
