Paul McCartney once said the this was the Best Beatles cover EVER!

The Beatles intended the song to be an American-style R&B song and wanted to record it at Staxx records but didn't want to pay the fee. So what you guys are hearing is what EWF did, bring out the actual true roots of the song. Paul was ecstatic hearing this version.

I love this reaction! I remember when they first released it back in 1978 I thought the same thing. They made it their song and did it their way. That is why it was so well received by everyone including the Beatles themselves.

THANK YOU gentlemen for respecting the musicianship of Earth Wind & Fire! Maurice White (the lead singer & band founder) was from Memphis (my hometown) & he was a student in the Booker T. Washington High School marching band.

This was a hit back in the day. Its been said by many that the only thing good that came out of the film Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was this song. Paul Mcartney even said it was the best Beatles cover as I recall.

Maurice knew how to arrange classic music to their EWF sound. From their Greatest Hits album was a "break" between the All n All and I Am albums. Truly, EWF was in their prime. They didn't recreate a Beatles' song, they created their SOUND from a Beatles song. The Phenix Horns baby!!!!!!! Johnny Graham on the guitar solo....

You guys are right the Earth Wind and Fire dunked and jazzed it up to make it their own. I can think of several great covers, both by Elton John, A cover of The WHO’ tune Pinball Wizard from the Tommy movie, and the other being Lucy in The Sky With Diamonds originally done by the Fab 4.Elton made both his own style. Joe Cocked did a couple of fantastic covers of Beatles tunes as well!

I think they did a good job for this cover, but then again I voted for Iron Maiden Cross Eyed Mary, which came in a close second. I know over 100 cover songs.

I'm a huge Beatles' fan and I love this version. Just like I love Ray Charles' version of "Yesterday", Stevie Wonder's version of "we can work it out", Joe Cocker's version of "with a little help from mt friends" and pretty much the whole "I am Sam" OST, which is only Beatles covers.

GNR’s cover of Aerosmith’s “Mama Kin”is really good. Also you guys seem to favor Maiden and you should really check out “Nativity In Black” which is a tribute album to Sabbath and is excellent. Dickinson covers Sabbatth Bloody Sabbath” and absolutely slays it.

They did a better version of a Beatles song than tThe Beatles did. Paul has said that EW&F captured what his band was trying to do with this song.

I'm of the opinion that no artist or band has more high quality covers than the Beatles. There are many of their covers that made the charts. You guys just haven't heard them yet. You may want to try Post Modern Jukebox if you want good covers. I'd suggest starting with "Creep" and "Hold On".

This cover was from the Sgt. Pepper's movie. The soundtrack is worth a listen for a couple of the covers including Aerosmith's version of Come Together. Altogether awful movie, though.

I've not heard this cover before now. It's fair - perhaps they should have made it longer - and it brings to mind Chicago. The band Chicago. In my view there are better covers of Beatle numbers. "Every little thing" being one of them and performed by YES on the 1969 Yes album. Worth checking out. On the subject of covers, while i think of it, i think an unlikely cover is " I heard it through the Grapevine" Creedence Clearwater revival did it brilliantly. It has to be the long version. Returning to the Beatles there is “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” by The Marmalade and "Yesterday" is one of the most covered songs of all. Was it Shirley Bassey who covered "Something"? There are also covers of my favourite single of all time - "Strawberry Fields" one of which by a trio I just can't stand - The Bee Gees. Steve Howe of YES was in a band called Tomorrow and they did a cover of that too. So many artists have covered Beatle numbers I could fill the night with them I I were to Let It Be. So i think I'll quit there. Here is something for Ethan - being in to keyboards. The Late great Keith Emerson was in a band called The Nice- check out the Bob Dylan live cover of "She Belongs to me." Perhaps one of the best covers of all time.
