I'm a Metalhead. But the beauty of wearing a suit you cannot deny.
@Ali_Saracen

My mate is a metal head but still a suit conniseir with a bald head, beard, newsboy caps and waistcoats with jackets rather than blazers. Leaning in more towards a traditional English combined with a western cowboy look he feels no sacrifice in his image for who he is or how he wishes to be perceived. Personally, I wear fine suits with dark eye liner and own a lot of formal, 3/4 length coats. Johnny Depp has a cool, alternate style too

You make an excellent point that both the goth style and the dandy style have the same goal: stand out from the crowd. The question therefore is if you've really changed at your core ;). (And i dont think it's a problem if you havent, just embrace that need/feeling, that's what being authentic is all about.)

The thing about long hair is, if you're going to have it, you need to dress and fragrance on the sharp side to balance it. If you go out in streetwear like dudes with close, clean haircuts do you'll get nothing but a "hippie" or "homeless" response. Long, healthy hair and a crispy wardrobe create a really interesting juxtaposition that I've found to be well-received by many. A bizarre reception I got when attending a funeral one time was from an older gentleman maybe in his 60s: I'm sitting down to my lunch and he says, "You must either be somebody famous or really smart or both."

Great video! I was a hardcore goth/emo in middle and high school. I'm 30 now and while I haven't completely abandoned all elements of that style, I've simply found ways to update it and add a more mature overtone to it. I still prefer mostly black clothing and still love to rock some jewelry, but I opt for a much more refined and dapper black wardrobe nowadays (blazers, dress shirts, leather shoes, slacks, etc.) as opposed to the "rocker" wardrobe I used to sport. Still feels true to who I am, while more in line with my current stage of life.

I’ve been following your videos for a couple months now, and this was a surprise. I never would have guessed you were once a goth. Great transformation and it’s really good to hear how your life has improved. You’re correct that it is a form of discrimination that employers are far less likely to hire someone with an alternative or nonconformist look, but people need to grow up and realize that that’s the way the world works. You can consciously rebel against the norm and probably put up with low-paying crappy jobs, or you can actively attempt to make yourself more employable and approachable. Unlike racial or gender discrimination, it’s your choice.

You make an excellent point about being treated nicer when dressing up. I have experienced the same, in many parts of life, from internal customers at work (who thankfully forget I'm 23) to strangers at my girlfriend's university. I'm also so glad to hear that dressing well has played a part in your career success, congratulations :)

Much respect.. one of my closest friends was Goth throughout middle school, high school and all the way through JUCO. He Experienced some profound traumatic experiences as a child (non sexual) but lots of verbal and physical abuse. He didn’t want to be like the “others” at the time, and of course that factored into mockery, some form of bullying and harassment. He introduced me to literature authors like Mary shelley and Bram Stoker, this subculture most people wouldn’t understand. Anyways, now he works in banking and is one of the most stoic and pleasant souls to be around, for me he always was, I always cared. But for people that don’t know him, he’s a true gentleman.

I went to goth night here at one of the local clubs. I used to dress in suits all the time. And a lot of the goths we’re complimenting my dress. I guess it just depends really on the type of goth clothing you were going for. From the picture it looked more like metal type goth like Type O. I guess i wore and still wear more of Nick Cave suits type goth.
@Gent.Z
@Gent.Z 6 месяцев назад
That’s an interesting point you mention there! Although this photo was from my goth/metal band’s photoshoot, I was indeed the goth in a suit for a while, taking a lot of inspiration from Nick Cave. It was when I stopped dying my hair and got a more ‘normal’ cut that the way people perceived me changed the most.

The great thing about this video is the lesson for all people. Never stop progressing. I have so many friends who got to the hippy stage in the 1970s or the punk and goth stage in the early 80s, and just never moved on, either in dress, music or ideas. It is so sad.

I think it’s important to be genuine regardless of whatever style you happen to decide to rep. Versatility for a gentleman is essential, so if you can be sincere in whatever style you should happen to be in then all the better. I think you look great in both, and I appreciate your videos. I think what you impart in them is the essence of what it means to be a gentleman, to be confident while also making an effort, so no matter your circumstances or budget, you try to look your best because you are being your best. Cheers 🥂

That black octopus picture behind you hints at a Cthulhu aesthetic...still a little bit goth? 😂 I was never goth, but definitely a long-haired heavy metal fan dressed in black for many years. Eventually, my hair started falling out, and I think buzzing my hair off began my "men's style journey." I look WAY different than I used to, and I've found that studying men's style can actually be MORE FUN than rocking my old metal regalia.

You look so good as a goth! Goths can be gentlemen too, I'm sure you know. I used to be goth in a small town and it really helps you grow thick skin to all of the insults and the weird looks I got. I understood where they were coming from too, I'd often brace myself whenever I walked into a store or had an interaction with someone. I wanted to say "Yeah, look I know what you're thinking and yeah I feel a bit stupid dressing like this but I really like the look." That was over 20 years ago. Now I dress alternative now, simple classic black items and long t-shirts instead of dog collars, band t-shirts and too much makeup. Less is more.

I can't help but notice when watching this video, it feels as if you changed for society. There are plenty of people who dress far more intensely who are very successful, I get maybe not dressing that way at your job but fully changing for your job? That's kind of a different story. As for dating life, regardless of what you look like, you aren't held back from meeting the right person, if someone genuinely decides they don't want to speak to you or date you based on your appearance, then that means you're not supposed to be together. In the thumbnail I realize you can only see one photo of your younger self. So I don't know how you truly LOOKED, but I don't see how a man having long hair automatically makes them feminine, or a man dressing in dark clothing automatically makes them unapproachable, undateable and unhireable. If you are truly happy with the way you are now, then that's fantastic! I just really hope you're doing this for you and you only, because it makes you happy.

I have seen a few of your videos in recent weeks, and I did subscribe as I find Gent Z fascinating and highly relevant. I wanted to make a comment that has no vitriol or judgment of you, simply an issue you are probably not aware of, and as a gentleman would probably appreciate knowing. I have seen visual and verbal references to Sean Connery as an actor and gentleman. In 1960, he gave an interview in Playboy magazine that indicated he felt there were circumstances in which it was appropriate to hit women. Later, in 1986, he had an interview with Barbara Walters, where he doubled down on the appropriateness of hitting women with an open hand vs. a fist. I simply suggest that you have a look at this and conclude whether he is someone you would actually want to present in your content as an example of a gentleman. I think you are tremendously well-meaning and sincere. I hope you take this as an issue to look into for yourself and not as controversy or shaming.

I wore a uniform so my private clothing style was not a big thing but I started slowly to change my cloths. when I left the army I started a job where I also wore a uniform but not a military. and I always felt that people threaded me different when I had my uniform on, they said "it looks so nice". So I one day decided to stop wearing jeans and reduce the color black to a bare minimum. Now I wear button up shirts or polos and trousers like chinos. i also feel comfortable and I see on a daily basis that its easier in my interaction with other people private or in business.

Question about your music style, once you settled into your image changes did you find difficulty finding those into the same genres as you among your more cleaned up friends or did image have little impact on what music everyone listened to? As a millennial elder emo type being cleaned up makes it harder to find those willing to hop in a mosh pit with me. Most of my acquaintances are more or less closeted with their music tastes haha.

i love both styles, right now I'm in a transitional point from teen to man, this will be the last year i have graphic tees unless it's pajamas lol, but I've gone with a darker color cloths, black, i do want to look somewhat goth, light goth but i also wanted to mix the Gentleman style with it, a goth Gentleman if you will, i want the goth elements to be light like a nice Little touch along side the Gentleman style. what do you think, also do you think you could do a video for the goths out there who want to look like men ? i love your videos, even though I'm not a zoomer I'm a Zillennial, 26 lol

I had a similar transformation. I played in metal bands DJed for most of my life and I had dreads down to my calves, piercings and such. One day I decided to start dressing my age and cut my hair. Eventually, I enjoyed living as a normie after so many years, living the oposite.
