“I made you what you are… just like Gotham made me..” that’s a powerful line if you ask me. Bruce could’ve easily become some villain like this guy, but decided to flip the script and make a change for Gotham. So there are no more Bruces in the alleys losing their parents and becoming what makes the city a rotten place
You'd wish that, but everytime they reboot/retell the batman franchise they will always have Bruces in a dark alley losing his parents. All kinds of Bruces too. There's blonde Bruce, brunette Bruce, and in this series, Jewish Bruce
Pretty much every batman movie starts off with his parents being killed and it's just a random guy then suddenly at the end of joker they were murdered by a guy in a clown mask. There was never a clown mask mentioned up to that point.
I think it's funny how he'll charge 10 grand for adult men, double for women, triple for children, be he won't kill babies, no babies. Lol he's got a tiny little bit of morality but not much
@@ezekieldiakite6618 nah, bruce and jim know each other Ofcours bruce will calm and drop if he see jim pointing gun on him cuz he will realize he would go too far if he don't drop the gun
This is such an important scene. They really did a good job showing why Bruce doesn’t kill as Batman. The way they represented matches was brilliant. A man who’s killed many people, so many he can’t remember there name. Whether it was the people he killed weighing on his conscience or it was he was simply tired of all the violence, all his sins and he was ready to go.
I absolutely dig how they didn’t make him the typical ‘evil’ villain who is a sociopath or whatever. He actually had a soul and felt for the people he’s murdered but he had to survive and didn’t know how to stop :(
I think it was terminal hindsight. Happens to people on the anti-social spectrum. They don't necessarily feel "bad" about their actions but they feel this sense of failure when they look back on the destruction vs what little financial or social gain they really achieved. like say if you go around shooting people for their wallets. you could go uncaught for 20 years and you probably wouldn't profit enough to stop. whats worse is you can't go to night school or something cause you're a killer. you wouldn't need empathy to be utterly destroyed by your actions
I love that the most important day in Bruce Wayne's life was just another Tuesday for his parent's killer. Kid had to go into excruciating detail for the guy to even remember.
@@FinalGreymon the dark knight returns batman is an asshole, but he still didnt killed no one."i hear voices, calling me a killer...i wish i was." so its very likely that this batman will stay
@@loreking486 actually he started killing when superman arrived to earth, metropolis really scarred Bruce after seeing thousands die including his own employees, he saw superman as humanity's doom and didn't care to kill criminals because they were gonna die anyways since aliens like superman exist
This is the greatest character moment in any comic book movie or show. If someone asks, who is Batman? Why does he do what he does? I’ll show them this scene. So perfect
@@jonahstirbis3408It means after it bruce wayne becomes batman ....??? Actually I have not watch batman and even this series also so i dont know ...Thank you for helping.. have a good day....tnx again
"A man gets tired... doing wrong, and going unpunished." He might as well been waiting for someone to kill him, to punish him for all the things that he has done, but this moment with Bruce, made him realize what he missed in humanity. That part of him has been awaken, and will never forgive himself. So he pulled the trigger himself, using Bruce's gun, representing all the rest of his victims, to end his own life.
Yeah, goes to show that Matches has disassociated himself from the people he murders and only to consider the objective behind them. It was just another day on the job for him.
Bruce: "You don't remember?!" Matches: "For you, the day Matches murdered your parents was the most important day of your life. But for me... it was Tuesday."
Fun fact about Matches: he's not the guy who killed the Wayne's according to the comics, that's Joe Chill. But he does exist in the comics but it's actually Bruce himself. He uses the name Matches Malone to blend in with the criminal underground for recon
@@Victor-vx2hl so you think it's obvious that he met up with a guy that had the same name as an alter ego he'll later use in the criminal underground and that guy just happened to have killed his parents. Okay then thanks Sherlock.
I love how the Gothamverse uses Matches Mallone, an alias Bruce uses on occasion, as the man who killed his parents. Don't get me wrong. Joe Chill would've been fine. But, this twist is still a welcomed surprise.
I was actually pissed the first time, like, "No! It's supposed to be Joe Chill! Matches Malone is Bruce's alias!" After taking a while to think about it, I realized the name change was actually pretty genius.
Bruce seeing and valuing the humanity in his rogues gallery is forever and always the very best reason for Batman to have his no kill rule. It’s much more coherent and satisfying than “Killing makes you just another criminal.”
There was a time even children understood why Batman doesn't kill. These days, adult act like it's a big complex mystery. There are two central reasons why Batman doesn't kill: 1) Killing is wrong. 2) Batman's job is to bring criminals in so they can have their day in court, not to decide their fate himself. Now we can talk about trolley problems with regard to #1, but when you factor #2 into it as well, there is no good reason for Batman to kill.
I can think of another reason why Batman shouldn't kill. We know that there are any number of killers in Gotham, from low-level punks to Killer Croc. But that's okay-ish because Batman is the toughest guy in Gotham and he can stop them all. But, what happens when the toughest guy in Gotham IS a killer?
I think Matches use to be a family man with an ordinary life but things ended in tragedy and thats what led him on his path. The way he calls Bruce "son" and that line "I made you what you are, just how Gotham made me." He was clearly a good man at one point in his life but circumstance and fate led him down a dark path.
For me this scene shows us how unhealthy the atmosphere of Gotham is and transforms people who don't necessarily have a bad basic background, to the point of pushing them to the limit (pushing them to death, making them lose their minds , becoming avatars of chaos). Civilians, criminals like Malone are all in some way victims of this cursed city
Ngl I prefer joe chill, and that Bruce meeting him while being Batman and recreating that scene where he told him he made the Batman and later resulting in Joe getting killed by his own gang members
Let me tell you, my jaw dropped when the gunshot happened. I honestly didn’t see it coming and that goes to show how well written this scene was!!! 😮😃 I’m still amazed at how much depth they gave to a seemingly minor character!!!
Batman:matches Malone. M.Malone:what do you want with me? Batman:remember Thomas and Martha Wayne? The lovely couple you shot in cold blood?! M.Malone:(realizing)what does it matter to you anyway? Batman:EVERYTHING!!!
Bruce could have killed this man so easily, but he didn't. He chose the right path for himself. "I wanted to kill my parent's murderer, I could have. But that's not the life they wanted for me"
Bruce couldn’t do it. He looked in his eyes and saw a man who wanted to die. That man didn’t fear death, he feared shame. A feeling he didn’t want to feel anymore. So he took the gun, put to his chin, pulled the trigger, just so he could feel at peace. For he could no longer live with the deeds he’s done. The sins he committed out of greed and wrath.
In a way this man is a hero, he made bruce what he is and in the end he committed suicide cause he see all his past mistake and through that bruce can change gotham and it’s also one more criminal eliminated 2 bird with 1 stone
Bruce Wouldn't Shot Matches Malone Because He Knew It Was Not The Right Thing To Do And He Had a Code Not To Kill Anyone That's His Path Of Becoming The Dark Knight 🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇
it's like Smallville, basically it shows said hero growing into the one you know from books. It's different because they put the character into situations their older versions were in in the books for some reason, probably to make it more interesting. So in Smallville you get to see Clark growing up into Superman and you'll also see future heroes and villains rise from basically nothing, and same goes for Gotham. So just like Smallville started when Clark went to high school and ended when Superman showed up in Metropolis, Gotham starts in Crime Alley and ends when Batman comes to Gotham.
I don’t know why they didn’t call this guy Joe chill especially considering that in the comics matches Malone is actually the name of Bruce Wayne’s fake mob boss persona.
I just don't get it. I thought it took Bruce Wayne AKA Batman a long time to figure and find his parents killer "Joe Chills" after his resources and tracing back his footsteps of who that guy looks like or what he wears or others just to remembered him so he can confronts him to kill him or let him live and regret his life as I never know what happened after that from movies to TV shows series of Batman's true parents killer. Some I don't know and wished I knew was it in his early 30s or young to older ages when he encountered Joe Chills
Matches Malone was one of Batman’s secret identities in order to infiltrate criminal organisations. In Batman the brave and the bold the man that killed Batman’s parents was called joe chill.
Joe Chill was the name of the man in the original comic. In most incarnations--Nolan, Bruce Timm--that's the name of the gunman. Interesting twist here, to suggest that Batman took the name of his parents killer. Although I have to say I'm skeptical, just looking at this scene. Malone doesn't seem to remember Thomas and Martha Wayne, two of the most famous people in Gotham. He gives details about the scene only when Bruce provides something to work with, and he refuses to give any other info. I honestly think he's faking it to get Bruce to shoot him.
I wonder how many people died, because of Batman's code of not killing. Killing a killer doesn't make you a murderer, it's Justice. You are very likely saving lives, or at least avenging them. A Murderer is someone who kills for evil reasons. How many times does a criminal have to get out of jail and kill again, before he's put down..... Batman busts the same criminals over and over again. If he would have just ended them, then his job would be so much easier. Instead, Gotham will never get better.
Let's take this in another direction, though. A violent Batman, who kills criminals, would inspire more vigilantes, killing whoever they thought deserved it--and in the process killing a great many who did not. Criminals in turn would become more violent, more willing to lash out at the "ordinary citizens" who might be part of the vigilante gangs against them. The police force would be less than a joke, it would be a footnote as the city descended into gang warfare between vigilantes and the mob. Many innocents would be lost as people killed whoever they thought was a criminal. "Justice" as you put it here is a very nebulous and slippery term. "Justice" is more strictly defined as a system of laws, juries, and judges, meant to ensure that the person being punished actually did the crime and that the criminal is punished like every other criminal, not just in accordance with how much a particular person dislikes them. Not every killer is equal, and not everyone who kills a killer does so for good reasons either. That being said, Joker should have gone to the chair yeeaaaaaaars ago.
@@Afalstein I'm talking about real criminals, that have a history of killing people. Not someone that say, robbed a bank. Dangerous criminals that kill, and the legal system can't seem to keep them in jail. I see your point, but I seriously doubt that we would have that many people copying Batman if he started killing, and even so, there are only so many criminals, and if criminals understood they could die, I think their would be less criminals. I think people would be a great deal more legal, if they knew that it wasn't just the legal system they would have to face anymore.
@@VRIceblast if Batman kills his enemies and remains on the loose he is really not that different from what he is killing. A killer who kills other killer is not a hero just another killer. Even if larger crimes are justified with killing how long do you think it'll take for even petty crimes would follow through. Then everyone would justify killing. It doesn't matter how insignificant an act of killing looks on a grand theme, it'll spread like a wild fire among all. Filth should be removed no doubt. But what's the point of removing filth by replacing it with blood?
@@Phantom_Zone No, as I said, if he is killing these killers that the legal system can't seem to stop, that doesn't make him a killer. Cops kill dangerous criminals all the time, that doesn't make them murderers. It's a different story, if he kills someone that was innocent Intentionally. People kill all the time, saying that Batman is responsible for other people killing just sounds like making him a scapegoat for all other peoples actions. Everyone knows that Batman is more like a cop, trying to clean up the streets. He would just be saving the taxpayers lots of money, and their lives in the process. Gotham is in no way a save place to live, and the trash really needs to be removed from the streets permanently.
Its because you're not aware about Batman. For him it is way too easy to kill someone but the thing is that, atleast for him, I he choose to kill someone and end a problem, he will never stop it cause it is much easier and efficient.. ( even we choose easier options, once we find it or try it for once and we will kinda try using the same solution as possible ) And as a person who read Batman: metal, I don't want Batman to kill Jocker....
Matches is a really good character, he was trained and couldn’t definitely have disarmed Bruce, he could’ve shot Bruce on the way out. He chose not to because he realised he had this coming.
I hated Joe chills for killing Bruce parents but when I learned why it's very sad he had one bad day that completely ruined his life and changed him to the point where he just couldn't feel any pain anymore for others after what he had lost and Bruce saw that and felt so sorry for the very same man that killed his parents and didn't want to end up like him and in the end chills took his own life to end it all full circle till the very end.
@@cameronvelska4610 I kept reading comments saying that it is him but just using a different alias but cover up his real name don't know if that's true though.
