You can tell Cameron Monaghan had a blast with Jerome/Jeremiah he always stole the show whenever he was on screen even his last scene was dead sinister loved this man's performance.
I love how the Valeskas embody the 2 main elements that make the Joker such an iconic character in DC's whole character gallery; psychotic and chaotitc. Jerome just wanted to see the world burn and enjoyed inflicting physical pain and seeing that suffering. While Jeremiah is more cold and calculated, he took more pleasure in seeing 1 person suffer psychologically
I agree. Conceptually the Valeska Twins played both extremes perfectly. And in a way they also embodied one of Joker's lasting traits (a past that is in multiple choice).
Jeremiah eating from Bruce's plate, despite having his own plate, was a nice touch. It's not only a dominant gesture (power play) but in this case it's also very intimate. Quentin Tarantino knew this best.
It pretty much serves as a simple interpretation of how Jeremiah was trying to force his way into Bruce's life which is what he was trying to do in the episode.
Dude why did people hate this guy? He was a great actor as *NOT* Joker. Jerome was more chaotic and destructive. Jeremiah was more sinister and mastermind.
Gotham:(gets told they can't use Joker) What might as well have been Gotham's response: f you, not only are we gonna use Joker, we will use TWO JOKERS!!
@@Bigbigger1009 um..... actually it's not. Sure, the basic concept of it has been said before, but you're not likely to find another one worded this way. Also, you're talking about a character that was clearly made to be as close to Joker as can be, originality didn't have much part in that. The most original thing about Jeremiah was making him bald.
“So what do I call you?” “Ohhhh... I don’t know call me... Jack! No no no, that’s not right. Uhh Joseph! John, J, I don’t know I just... I feel something new, crawling out of the primordial ooze that was me. Something... beautiful.” Jack - The Joker’s name was Jack Napier in Batman ‘89 Joseph - The Joker’s name was Joseph Kerr in the graphic novel Batman: Going Sane John - The Joker’s name was John Doe in Batman: The Telltale Series J - Harley has called The Joker “Mr. J” on multiple occasions These fucking geniuses somehow managed to call him The Joker without flat-out saying he was The Joker so they wouldn’t get sued by WB... kudos Gotham creative team. Kudos.
@@orlandovazquez8694 basically WB told the makers of Gotham they couldn't use the green hair, purple suit, or name of the joker so as not to 'dilute the brand'. Officially according to the makers neither Jerome or Jeremiah is the joker, but everyone knows one or both of them are
Noblesse Oblige No offence, but Cameron M cannot stand in that midst.. Ledger and Joaquin are the only two. Even Nicholson now fades. But this one - is just outdated at the moment it was made..
Looking at the whole body of work I must say Cameron pulled off an admirable rendition. Its honestly among the most versatile of the bunch with the various changes and risky decisions that I feel paid off. His acting range was very strong for what he had to pull off.
Tim Fischer that's good. Most of the actors did well I felt. Penguin's demeanor is different but everyone else except maybe Catwoman (unless you mean year one) is comic accurate in this show. In terms of how they are. Well maybe not Bane but he's not bad
22:53 the way he looks to batman, like if he have found something he have been looking for years, the way he laughs at his hand he found the thing he loves the most
I hope that in future there will be a spinoff of Gotham. I'd really like to see that happen, Cameron played Joker with three peronas and i see him as a promising actor
First off, I want to say I absolutely love Jerome and Jeremiah and showed perfectly both sides of The Joker. Second, I want to comment on how much I love that they hinted that Joker always knew Batman’s secret identity which is also sprinkled throughout the Bat’s history
That's because he expected her to come the whole time as part of his plan to fake his death so her and Bruce wouldn't interfere with his sick "Re-enact the murder of the Waynes" plan.
Jerome was prototype joker but...Jeremiah, he is joker. He has the white makeup, the purple suit, the maniacal laugh. He even fell into a vat of chemicals for crying out loud. He is the Joker, plain and simple. When Jim asked him in S5 finale what to call him, he should have said “Call me Joker”
Not to mention their transformations into their Joker persona. With Jeremiah alone there was Xander, then the monotone Jeremiah and after that the full post-spray Jeremiah. And of course after he dropped in the chemical bath.
@Professor J more of a British inflection. He also started to draw out certain words and put quick stops to others. It seems like it was kind of the halfway point between his S4 voice and his voice in the finale where it's higher pitched and the British inflection is a bit stronger. The finale voice seems to take a lot of Mark Hamill influence, as it should, but it's different enough that Cameron Monaghan makes it his own. The main difference I noticed is how he said, "How...exciting", I assume his voice was supposed to sound like it sustained some damage from the acid.
I do recall being a bit bummed that they changed up the performance for Jeremiah between Seasons 4 and 5, but I still enjoyed this portrayal. Jeremiah was much more emphatic of the super-sanity bit in season 4, about being so utterly in control of yourself it appeared insane (i.e. flat affect, no emotion). Jeremiah in Season 5 still retains that sort of alien-ness to emotion, like he doesn't really behave totally normally with regards to his inappropriate laughter and eerily flat-sounding voice, but he's also got a bit more of a pep to him, as well as engaging in more openly insane gestures like licking a knife and all that, plus not a single mention of the super-sane philosophy he was invoking in season 4. They could've fixed it easily if they'd just included some lines about Jeremiah in season 5 being noted of losing further control of himself as the gas continues to eat away at his sanity. Maybe a bit more to show Jeremiah struggling with his stranger impulses, like licking the knife or inappropriately laughing. Then when we finally get him to dip in the acid, we can see that as the final melting away of his impulses so that when he comes back out he's just entirely delusional and irrational and manic, all the while still retaining his intelligence -- in short, classic Joker, though perhaps with a bit of Pennywise mixed in to add that alien factor. That progression would've made a lot more sense for such things like why Mr. J feels he's no longer the person he was, that sort of thing.
They didn't really have a choice. They had to finish the story on Season 5 (even though they wanted to end the show on Season 7) so they had to speed things up and make Jeremiah's change a lot faster.
But they could've made Jeremiah lose his memory. And him die in No Man's Land so nobody knows if it's Jeremiah or someone else. Because he has the intelligence of Jeremiah but some random guy fell in the chemicals a couple days before the emergence of the Joker.
@@TheMiksonPL If the show did end up going to season 7, it would have been interesting to see how Jeremiah would have evolved over two more seasons. Interesting to think about.
@@BigLTheBestMC I think that we would end up with the same Jeremiah we had in Season 5, but in Season 5 & 6 we would see how he evolves to become the Joker. The whole thing was really pushed, but they didn't have a choice...
@Brian G. I preferred Season 4 Jeremiah but I like his S5 characterisation too. I think his cold unfeeling attitude in S4 was an attempt to hold his insanity back and pretend he was sane because admitting his insanity would have involved admitting that Jerome was right about Jeremiah being as crazy and evil as he was and Jeremiah hated Jerome so much he'd sooner have killed himself than admit Jerome was right about anything. According to Cameron Monaghan the success of Jeremiah's plan to destroy Gotham inflated his ego even more than it already was to the point where he stopped holding back and started showing more of his craziness. The Season 4 episode One Bad Day before Jeremiah meets Ra's Al Ghul the way Jeremiah says "How did they figure you out" sounds more like Jerome's gravelly voice than Jeremiah's cold and emotionless one which suggests being sprayed by the gas caused him to develop a split personality based on Jerome. It happens again in a Season 5 episode where before Ecco's comes to talk to him Jeremiah's arguing with himself about Bruce saying "He'll like it" in his own voice and "No he won't" in Jerome's. He was probably talking about the random couple he gave plastic surgery to look like Bruce's parents. In Jeremiah's sick mind he was bringing Bruce's parents back as a "present" that he was convinced Bruce would thank him for and become his friend because of it. Since Jerome would have probably said that the plan was stupid if he was alive Jeremiah's apparent split personality version of Jerome in his head said the same.
Glad the last season finally got a proper Joker. IDC what anyone says Jeremiah is DEFINITELY the joker. By far the best villain ever in Gotham and an amazing actor to play him. Just wish he appeared in more episodes in season 5 though.
ecco was supposed to be harley quinn tho they way they made it, maybe someone later comes up and replaces her, or maybe theirs MULTIPLE harley quinns that eventually die and get replaced, considering he had facial reconstructive surgery for his plan, wouldn't be surprised if he did the same for the new "harleys" allowing him to essentially try to recreate ecco or something as well as maintain the appearance of one harley
This is what signifies him as the Joker rather than Jerome. Jerome wanted Bruce dead no matter what. Jeremiah has a twisted view on the relationship between him and Bruce, as he says.. They are bound together. THAT'S Joker.
Jeremiah revealed his motives long time ago, and people is not able to get it. Jeremiah: I Imagine you're wondering: "Why Jeremiah's doing this?" My brother once said all it takes is one bad day to reduce the sanest man alive to lunacy. Jerome gave me what I thought was the worst day of my life. But only by losing everything was I able to face what was inside me. And I believe I've seen something very special - inside of you as well. But, to free it, you'll have to lose everything and everyone you hold dear.
I love Cameron Monaghan he was perfect to play a Joker like person. I hope to see him on the big screen. Also 15:30-15:34 Did Jeremiah’s men steal Luis’s horn?
Well of course. He isn’t talking in a deep voice, having thugs dressed in Halloween costumes, or dressed like a gangster. And a this is a small detail but *HE ACTUALLY LAUGHS LIKE THE JOKER*
15:03 Thinking about it now this bit is based on Dark Knights Metal where one universe's Joker kills loads of people and Batman is eventually forced to kill him but Joker turns his world's Batman into The Batman Who Laughs in death.
@@menames184 basically. a guy said to bruce wait “bruce, you’re supposed to be dead” and bruce said “sorry to disappoint. i don’t think it was an exact reference because of the use of different characters but it went like that
Have any of you noticed in season 4 he thinks he's sane talks normal but creepy but in season 5 before he falls in the acid he talks and acts like a little bit of jerome and joker
@@xdmellor7562 well i do remember the reading around season 2 the writers said in an article, that Batman would show up "at the end of the series". Which makes sense because once Batman shows up, it's no longer "Gotham" it's "Batman".
@@DarkNexus530 I think they honestly came out with an even better interpretation thanks to Cameron's stellar acting skills and that they didn't have to conform to any one "Joker" since they didn't have the rights anyways. Two very distinct styles of Joker but both feel right. Also the whole "two jokers in every deck" thing with them being twins and all.
DC didn't want to have two live action jokers at the same time, so they just invested in Jared Letto's joker instead, which i find dumb not just because letto's was a bad joker, but also because they had no real reason to not lend the rights of the name to fox
And investing in Leto's Joker turned out to be a waste of time because he was shit and Joaquin Phoenix surpassed him in every way. Leto's also an extremely petty man since he tried to stop the Joker film from being released out of jealousy that Phoenix was a better Joker than him. And while he was filming Suicide Squad he did disgusting shit like give his fellow cast members dead rats and used condoms and justified it as "getting into character" even though no version of The Joker has given anybody dead rats or used condoms.
