He would be a good foil for Commissioner Gordon too. They both have a deep-rooted sense of justice, and are willing to work outside of the law to get the job done. But go to different extremes to fulfill their mission. Gordon is virtuous and adheres to a moral code. Only bending the law a little by working with a vigilante to avoid troublesome red tape, not willing to violate the human rights of a criminal. Det. Lean not so much. Fully willing to disregard a criminal's life, and ignore legal protocols for the lives of the many. To him, a criminal's life has been forfeited the moment they've committed an offense and they aren't worth spending any more resources on than necessary. In this case, it costs money, time, and valuable manpower to put a criminal in witness protection, and he would much rather allocate all those resources elsewhere. It would make for an interesting conflict since they're so similar in terms of their basic principles, but they exercise their influence very differently. I can even see them holding a certain amount of respect for each other. Anyways, thanks for reading my TED Talk.
