Gotta Get Washed to Get Clean, Too Old for Fighting Games, Why to Go to Locals | Ask Diaphone 

I'm putting this out there. I'm 41 and hadn't played fighters since the first Soul Calibur and MvC on dreamcast. The learning curve of modern fighting games is wild. The level of intentional design around frame data and hit/hurt boxes is wild. But since starting last fall, I'm pretty solidly intermediate skill in strive, SF6, and MK1. Nothing too crazy, but like learning a new skill or returning to an old skill, you gotta take a learner mindset and just focus on what tools are built in. And definitely play a couple of different games. SF6 is great, but super precise, and doing actual combos is a real challenge because of the neutral focus. Playing something like Strive was great for learning combo inputs in general and games with more flexible approaches to things. And go at your own pace. I didn't go online in SF until I was beating arcade mode on Very Hard consistently, as that results in cpu levels from around 5-7 and requires good use of the various system skills. It took almost 6 months to get to that point and that's fine. Haven't played fighters in forever and I keep seeing improvement. Don't sweat the age!

I'm 39, haven't played a fighting game since tekken 3. I picked up strive 3 months ago and managed to get celestial with axle. Currently working on getting Ky to celest.

Backthrow into the corner on granblue? He's probably trying to run up and block to bait those dps and getting thrown for free... Happens to me way too often in the lower ranks where I live. Would probably help learning how to properly shimmy.

So I hot a question for the comments so I play granblue And I main charlotta. So initially when I started playing there was the hurdle of understanding charlotta and her buttons but as I progressed I got better to the point of reaching masters with her. It felt incredible that I was able to do it with a character that I thought really poorly of initially. But upon reaching masters I barely win fights anymore. That's not to say that I'm not trying to improve and look at what I'm doing wrong but it feels more often than not that charlotta doesn't have to tools to handle fighting half the cast. I've considered switch but no one else in the cast grabs my attention ( I've been trying beatrix a little). I just wanna know what to do in this situation. Like before I could see what I was doing wrong improve it and see the results but now I'm just stuck taking losses and I'm not finding the game enjoyable anymore. Also I hate dash l macro. Anyone that plays charlotta and holds back for too long knows why 😂
