It certainly did John. The seabed there is made up of kelp and rock and I think they adapt to the surroundings, hence the dark colours. Thank you for watching 👍👍

You can tell perfectly by that specimen why they are called rock salmon. Next time look straight down at one and it looks just like a salmon, and that's a rough area your fishing to, its real habitat. The adults, 10, 15, 18 pounders all head out to the sandbanks to breed during summer, leaving the juveniles to grow in the rocky shallows. Beautiful specimen that is, awesome catch. They also have to hide from the adults when they return, hungry. 👍

Yes beautiful fish aren't they, one of my favourite species. I've had some nice ones off Brixham breakwater on big Mackerel baits. It's a shame we don't get them around the Newport area, sometimes get a few down Barry Way. I didn't realise the bigger ones headed out to deeper water during summer to breed. Cheers 👍

Thank you Paul, much appreciated. Yeah this was a tricky one to film and so I wasn't too sure how the footage would turn out. Over the years I've had some good fish off this mark. There were dark, they must adapt to the environment which I'm guessing is rocky ground with lots of kelp. Cheers for watching, hopefully plenty more to come soon! 👍👍🐟

Hi Gareth I`ve come across Dogfish more or less the same dark colour as you caught on the Gower. The mark where I`ve caught these fish is on the Isle of Man but all other venues on the Island the Doggies are the usual sandy brown colour. Very odd! Nice video and looking forward to the next. All the best.

Yes strange isn't it Gordon, I think they tend to be darker where there's lots of kelp and rock, it's like they adapt to their surroundings but I'm not sure to be honest. I haven't fished this Gower mark for a while, need to get back down there. Cheers as always, much appreciated 👍👍

Yes Gareth Ballycastle is a brilliant beach to fish when conditions are right, we quite often catch up to 30 or 40 fish between us, but it can be hard to get the conditions right, any sort of surge and the fish won’t bite, there’s always the chance of large turbot and plaice, if you ever venture over to Northern Ireland it’s a place to try, September and October is normally best months.

@riversidewithme Год назад
@@shaunjones6049 No problem. As for Mackerel, you really need to go a little further West where the water is clearer...lots of the Gower marks, such as Rhossili, produce Mackerel and when the light goes down the Dogfish will feed in numbers. The Barry marks are good for Dogfish, such as The Knap off the pebble beach. Porthcawl is also good for Dogfish, especially off the pier. And there's usually plenty of Dogfish to be caught at Swansea West Pier and Knab Rock. Cheers 👍👍

Another great vid Gareth, I find the Swansea marks difficult fishing, getting through the dogfish is a challenge. Fished pwll Du bay few weeks ago with a similar outcome. Hiya Matt, good to hear from you again. Firstly, thank you for the donation, much appreciated (no need but thank you!) Yes definitely, getting through the Dogfish is not easy, they seem to be in abundance down there at the moment and I'm not surprised that you had a similar session at Pwll Du. I felt slightly frustrated making this video as over the years I've had some great fishing at this mark, even had Cod there during early September would you believe but this session was hard going to say the least and I was trying to do too many things at the same time...I guess we live and learn. Ha yes, I keep telling myself the same, that the next session will be better but it's not working out that way... we'll keep plugging away though and you never know! To become a channel member, you click the 'Join' button which appears next to my channel name on any video or you can do it via this link ru-vid.com/show-UCcm1JK_rDy-rLij-qdG2BJwjoin but again, there's no need. Great video mate even with the tricky filming conditions as well as fishing conditions it made for a quality video. Have you ever tried spinning or float fishing further towards the upper channel or is it not worth it due to the water clarity?
@riversidewithme
@riversidewithme Год назад
Thank you Finley, I appreciate that mate. I usually get some decent Mackerel and Garfish down there on the spinner but it wasn't to be during this session, still enjoyable though. I have tried spinning/float fishing further up the channel but never had much luck, apart from when I was catching Bass at the mouth of the Ogmore river on a spinner. Further up and I think the water is probably a bit too murky, although I do fancy doing a bit of fly fishing on the mouth of the Usk for Bass. Hope all is good with you, cheers for watching! 👍👍🐟

High Gareth, I am a novice at beach fishing when you are doing your films , can you please describe how different species bite, and when to strike at different species, 🤔like some species ,strike at small indications. Or give line and wait to strike with other species.
@riversidewithme
@riversidewithme Год назад
Hi Shaun, yeah sure, I will try and remember to talk about the bites and striking. Some species are quite aggressive, such as Bass and Conger Eels and you can strike early but other species like Flatfish take their time and you need to wait a little. Good luck with your fishing ventures, I'm sure you'll catch plenty! Cheers 👍👍🎣

I have Richard, yes. I've done a bit of lure fishing at Pwll Du (metal lures) and had some Mackerel and Pollock, with the odd Garfish on the float, mainly during the Summer and Autumn though, not in Winter. I've only ever bottom fished at Brandy Cove, never tried the lures. Worth a crack though I would have thought, still quite a few Bass about and so you never know. Hi Ethan, you park in the national trust carpark at Pennard, postcode is SA3 2AS. This particular spot is to the left of the carpark, probably a 15 minute walk or so, although access is not easy as you need to get down the cliff, travelling light is key. I'd suggest taking a walk down there first, walk along the top of the cliff and look for spots that are accessible...the spot I'm fishing here is one of a few but they all look very similar. I like this place but to be honest, I prefer other Gower marks that are more easy and more comfortable. Cheers
