I tried these settings, firstly thank you for this guide, but I have one thing to say. With the angle at 60 and max throttle at 1800 it is pretty agressive and nearly depletes my battery when returning to home when 1 or 2 miles out. As gps rescue is nearly always only going to be used when near the end of the battery I have set it back to 42 for angle and 1600 for max throttle. It has a much more efficient flight back like this and works perfectly. Thanks again!

Extrememly helpful video. Thank you. I flashed from 4.3.2 to 4.4.1 and followed your instructions 100%. Just came from outside and couldn't believe how good the RTH is now. It landed about a foot from where I took off from and my altitude was more accurate than it was. Not to mention I have the GPS chip with the crappiest reviews (BN180). Living in the middle of farmland i always prefer GPS function even though crossfire and DJI are very reliable systems. Great work dev team!!!

@@baaao I use the Beitan BN180 on almost everything. My latest build has the Matek M8Q just because I had one laying around and it performs about the same. I get around 9-15 sats depending on conditions

Excellent video you deal with stage 1 different to how I deal with but your method will work fine I generally disable stage 1 and have the quad enter gps rescue immediately.

Thanks man! yeah thats pretty much same thing, except sometimes i like to freestyle without waiting for GPS. And in case of a failsafe it will disarm right away instead of giving 1.5 seconds of the grace period.

Great work! I love that you guys enhanced this. For me, on my flywoo explorer, I manage to get really stable landing results with 5m/sec but at 10m/sec its sort of doing a "toilet bowl" like landing sequence. It ends up hitting the 10 second cut off close to the ground.

@@divingfalconfpv4602 Kind of slow honestly that’s only 11mph. Most DJI and camera bird quads are set around 20mph-ish and that was the default on the flywoo for me on 4.1.

I always use the GPS latitude longitude in the OSD and if I'm going to a new place I'll cross check whether the coordinates are correct by checking with Google maps.

Hey guys, keep in mind that 4.4.0 had a bug that some noisy quads disarm on the last return to home stage. The problem was fixed in 4.4.2

I have 4.4.0 in my bind and flight bob57, and I tested it on a open field and it disarmed and fell to the ground. If I flash the new 4.4.2, will it erase everything on the fc, or will it just update the fixes. And keep everything I had. Not sure what to do.

I noticed some of the values in gps rescue are a little different because I took photos of every tab in betaflight. I wonder what they fixed. Because when I switched to gps rescue to test, it climbed about 10meters, turn towards home and disarmed and crashed. Hopefully the fix worked, now I just have to wait to try it out, when it crashed, it broke an arm. Ordered one, just got to wait. I’m glad I was on grass, it would have been much worse. Thanks again

@15:30 you mention testing rescue by shutting off your radio BUT make sure the ARM switch is set to ON. What if you have a pre-arm switch set on Betaflight? Will this affect the ability for the radio to link and continue flight? Great tutorial...very informative and entertaining.

Concerning Galileo: There are several SBAS Services around the world, improving GPS position accuracy by providing error data for the receivers. Those error data are determined from prcision reference receivers, and error services are broadcasted by geostationary satellites. By nature, those types of satellites cover continental areas. If you want to gain optimal position accuracy you have to use the GNSS system in your area SBAS data reception is available for over SBAS. In Europe, those data are only available for GPS and Galileo, boradcasted by EGNOS. In means of accuracy, you should only use GPS and Galileo in Europe. GLONASS as well as Beidou suffer from error information not available. That's why european drone pilots should enable Galileo, and SBAS of course.

Hey @IvanEfimovLimon, great video as always!! Maybe a dumb question, but do I need to have a barometer in order for Betaflight to work properly with GPS rescue? I saw some people using it without it, but I don't understand how it keeps track of the altitude.

Hello Sir. Barometer is not nessery. It can help with altitude accuracy. But sometimes they make it worse depending on it's quality and your luck :) GPS itself knows your altitude (if enough satellites), calculates it using satellites same way as it does for lat/lon.

Great video Ivan! I'm getting my gps setup and doing test and sanity checks before full send. I have a question about failsafe regarding elrs recievers. After about 30 seconds the rx goes into wifi mode. Since this will be a failsafe situation, would this still happen? I'm using a Radiomaster rp3 rx. Thanks

As a newb I performed the fly away with my new sport cam I did not have settings to save it. I believe I met the gentlemen who may have recovered it while searching, his neighbors said he was not trust worthy they did not state that as nice as I have. He just happened to be the only witness to see the drone yet he could not tell me where it landed. I think he had a lot of friends, after that every time I would fly the drone the one guy I never met before would drive out to watch the drone but never go to where I was flying it from and after noticing there was good control of it would leave fairly quick. And maybe It is all in my head, I imagined it just screaming NEW CAMERA to who ever could get to it first. Never let it go past the range you know it will fail and know that range or you may get you own followers.

this has been by far the most helpful, and efficient video i have found on this subject. I am having issues getting the hdop on the osd. this is what my CLI shows when i put in the show hdop command. I tried a few ways to change the value, but my CLI skill are not the best. can anyone point me in the right direction? this is what my CLI shows: # get osd_gps_sats_show_hdop osd_gps_sats_show_hdop = OFF Allowed values: OFF, ON

Hey man thanks for the video! I think maybe your first few points may be why my quad falls from the sky for like a second before initiating gps rescue when I simulate failsafe via aux channel. I never set throttle hover. That quad is still on 4.3 though but I will update soon. I found your video while trying to figure out why my speedy bee f7 v3 is not showing gps or baro in BF 4.4. It's a brand new build and has O3 AU and 4.4 (both of which are new to me), which the gps is the main attraction for 4.4 for me but can't figure why it won't show up. Make sure GPS is selected on flashing 4.4 screen when you flash. Don't use core build toggle.

Superb video Ivan, thanks. I love your style.. I fly in angle mode a lot (shit pilot!) so I have flight modes (angle, acro trainer & none) on aux 1 already. I have GPSR set on aux 4 so would adding angle mode to aux 4 too be an issue? The GPSR wiki does say that the first stage of GPSR is to 'enable level mode' so is it really necessary to add angle mode to the GPSR switch? Thanks a lot, Peter.

Хотел спросить есть ли планы сделать дополнение к GPS Rescue по возврату домой по треку (INAV сделал фичу в 6 версии) Очень здравая идея. Часто люди теряют свои дроны залетая за препятствие (гора например и дрон просто врубится в нее пытаясь вернутся) Было бы круто иметь возможность включать возврат назад по треку полета. cloud build тоже очень крутая идея (INAV надо взять на вооружение :) ) Осталось добавить поддержку лидаров для облета препятсвий и DJI потеряет актуальность )))

Thank you for this video. However I sadly discovered what "sanity checks" was meant for today (I had it set to failsafe only). Rescue mode activated on a switch was working fine, but then when testing failsafe on a switch, the quad went up like crazy then fell down like a rock, without letting me regain control over it. I think what triggered this event was that I was less than 100 meters away when switching to failsafe. Seems like being not far enough is one of the "sanity check" that wasn't met, which results in instant dropping. Please correct me if I'm wrong

hello, congratulations for the video, very good, it helped me a lot with the rescue mode, now ... I use the iflight radio command 8, I did the test by turning it off and in the betaflight sk it showed that it lost the RX link but did not show the failsafe . how to configure this, can help??

Красавчики! Именно из-за задержки перед первой стадией утопил дрон в море😭. Мне кажется, было бы полезным добавить возможность задать задержку в зависимости от высоты. Т.е. Если высота маленькая и есть риск упасть/утонуть, то в этом случае задержку на срабатывание поставить минимальную.

Thanks! GPS switch skips stage 1 and goes straight to return to home. Failsafe mimics true failsafe and goes to stage 1 first, and then to stage 2 which is GPS RTH

if you activated it with a switch, then just switch if back off the RTH. If its in GPS rescue because of the lost signal, and then you get your signal back, you can wiggle your sticks (i think its 50% of stick deflection) and then it will go back to acro mode. Just make sure you don't disarm it while its in GPS rescue, it will disarm :)

Hey Ivan, I kept coming across setting up CSRF TX' to set RS failsafe from fs pos to cut; as I understand it to allow betaflight to handle failsafe.

Yes sir. I think the new crossfire firmwares got it set to cut by default. In the past like 3-4 years ago it was "hold". So you'd better check that. And at the end of this video I'm showing how to make sure it works on the table.
