GR86 chasing GR86 cup car then GT3 blew by

My street GR86 on Kumho V730 tires chasing a GR86 cup car in traffic at Sonoma. Cup car is way faster but I had fun driving behind. Watch to the end to see the GT3 blew by like a rocket...
I was running an average 1:51.0 pace throughout the day. I talked to the Cup car driver he said he's running an average 1:47 pace
Key performance differences:
GR cup car - 245 /620R18 Continental Slick tires, Full aero, Sequential gear box
My Street GR86 - 255/35R18 Kumho V730 tires (200tw), no aero, stock 6 speed manual gear box
According to the GR cup website, the engine power output and the car curb weight are almost the same as the street car.

@@TrackandBuild thank you so much for the info. I have a gr86 and the stock brakes have been super inconsistent. I had the Ebc blue pads and endless brake fluid. I experienced ice brake where the pedal was super form without stopping in one session and the next session i experienced brake fade. I flushed the system with ATE sl6 fluid, braking was better but pedal feels like its getting soft after couple of laps. Once again thanks for the reply and very good driving.

Awesome driving my friend. You were awesome on the brakes and awesome everywhere. Can you please share with me what brake pads, brake fluids you were using. Assuming you are on stock calipers. I really enjoyed watching you keep up with the cup car. Very nice lines also.

Thank you! I'm on AP racing 8350 endurance front brake kit with Ferodo DS1.11 pads front and rear. Honestly the pads are a bit overkill for this car but they work. For brake fluid I use Castrol SRF

The cup car driver is a NASA Spec E46 national champion who just switched to the official SRO GR86 cup series. He's wicked fast. That was his second test day with the car, working on his setup.

Why does the cup car walk away on the straights? I thought they have stock power and are only a little lighter?

mainly because of the sequential gearbox I think.

Drivers lines are off. Dives into turns too early. Watch the cup drivers lines. He’s out more on turns to apex later. He’s getting a huge momentum jump out of the corners. Tires are much better. Sach suspension up front, AP racing front brakes. Hp is not important. The law: brakes, tires, suspension and good lines. That makes you fast. Oh, the cup GR is 200lbs lighter. One more thing, cup is also 1in lower. Lower center of gravity. I might just have a cup GR.

@@michaeljohn1160 I think you are right about the difference in racing line. The cup car driver has much wider line into corners before all the main straight: turn 6, turn 7 and turn 11. The cup car seems to be carrying a much higher exit speed because of taking later apex's.
