Tigers actually get an A++ because 1)they didn’t let Avila trade away the entire roster for low a players (as he did in every other move he did the last 7 years) and B) they fired Avila today
@@everybodysMaster1 seriously, the Fulmer trade is a perfect example. Tigers somehow have a top 5 bullpen and the only guy they trade from it gets a single prospect in return who is 25 and has a 7.17 era in AA. If he traded the other 4/5 valuable bullpen arms and the young starters in the same way the tigers would literally be a AA team in the majors
The Mets addressed most of their needs without giving up anyone that big. It was pretty similar to what the Braves did last year. I wouldn’t be surprised if any of those 3 bats they got goes on a tear in the playoffs
Nah they missed a little bit on bullpen. If they got like 2 good pitchers then it would’ve been a good move. The pitching pieces the Braves got is what got them to the World Series last year
@@DasFlippityFlop The Braves didn't go for many arms if at all last deadline. The vast majority of it was the series of ultimately game-changing bats they brought aboard. Most of their bullpen arms developed from within or were more or less claimed off waivers.
As a Mets fan no lie I was underwhelmed at the trade deadline, but that said..it looks like their FO might have known something that we didnt, now the DH spot is a big boon and really helped out against the Yankees and Braves series. That said, Braves have a very dangerous lineup and until the last pitch is thrown in the regular season, I still say the division will be a dogfight between the Mets and Braves. The loser winning the 1st wild card. The phillies arent a slouch as of right now either, so 3 NL east teams might go to the postseason at this rate
@@henrycalde1991 as a mets fan, I disagree with the assertion that the front office knew something that we didn't. There were plenty of us that knew these were good pickups. You just had to look at vogelbach's splits vs. Righties and Ruf's splits vs. Lefties. It isn't rocket science, I mean all you had to do was look at the 2021 giants to see the results of lefty righty platoons
@@henrycalde1991 if you were underwhelmed by that deadline, then you are probably a casual baseball fan. Those were smart moves, and made the Mets better.
I mean of course getting a guy like Soto was insane and Josh Bell is a huge upgrade at 1st both offensively and defensively but holy shit Brandon Drury has made noise immediately. Its funny how the guy who didn't even get a press conference jacked a grand slam his first game and hit a 3 run blast today too.
Drury is the type of player they need, shows up and does his job and doesn’t draw the media’s attention. He’s a dude and he got the right mentality for the sport.
And 2 weeks later, Josh Bell has been hitting about .132 for the Padres, Drury has done very little, Josh Hader has been a train wreck, and Juan Soto has been solid but unspectacular, and the Padres have had a sub .500 record against poor competition.
Mariners at the least get an A grade, they improved their rotation while getting some smaller pieces to add depth. They’re competing now and this trade deadline shows it.
Luis Castillo alone makes it an A+ trade. Yankees really fucked up not getting Luis, but with the amount the Mariners sent to the Reds for him, I’m happy with Montas.
@@whollyunaware5185 the fact you don't realize the entire part of a farm system is for moves like this baffles me. Sure we gave up Marte but you have zero idea how a player can transition in the pros. Getting him alone gives us an A
interestingly, the Orioles are 7-1 since trading Trey Mancini on August 1st. Obviously tonight's game vs Blue Jays has been postponed. I'm honestly curious how Gunner Henderson is going to do when he gets to play.
The Dodgers trade deadline acquisitions were Walker Buehler, Dustin May, Blake Treinen, Brusdar Graterol and Clayton Kershaw off the DL and they didn't have to give up anyone!
@@xLA625 Sucks But We Still Have May And Kersh. If They’re Not Horrible Than We Still Have A Great Shot. Buehler Would’ve Been The Cherry On Top Though
Raisel Iglesias has been terrible this year for the angels. If the angels traded him away for nothing like Vegas, I would consider that a victory. It's addition by subtraction.
The thing is his underlying metrics are much better than his subpar ERA would suggest, indicating perhaps he's been a bit unlucky this year. He's been mostly great so far with Atlanta.
Hated seeing Mancini leave Baltimore and to trade Lopez. But it was the correct move for the future. The Dan Duquette Era Orioles would have kept Mancini and would have lost him in FA. They would have kept Lopez a year too late, and would have gotten prospects at a lesser value. They addressed a weakness which is starting pitching. Great move by Mike Elias.👍🏻
@@Niptonian9551 nah, you don’t have to become depressing and a douchebag to be a true fan. Also many fans are being negative on purpose because they’re copying how fans of other successful teams are acting. It’s pitiful.
I'm a Brewers fan, and I was so disappointed by what they did at the deadline. I didn't mind the idea of trading Hader IF we got a top prospect or two in return. Instead, we basically traded him for a middle reliever, a utility player/pinch runner, and a guy who may be a bottom of the rotation starter in a couple of years. I simply cannot believe or accept that that was the best return package we could have gotten for Hader, and if it was, we should have just kept him.
Why wouldn’t Boston trade for hosmer??????? They haven’t had a competent first baseman all year and the padres payed off his whole contract. Got Pham for nothing, a decent catcher and traded Vazquez away right before he hits the market for two solid prospects. How did the Red Sox exactly get worse?
You dont want Hosmer because he will be stuck with the team and produces barely over replacement level this year, and in the future will produce less. Instead of signing a FA or letting a young guy play, they will be letting a washed up 35 year old play 1st base in 2026
I believe Marc didn't remember that the Braves have a knack for fixing underperforming OFers with their development. Lo and behold, Grossman's doing a lot better with the Braves than he did with the Tigers, saying quote "A lightbulb went off in my head". Iglesias has also looked fantastic, making an already great bullpen even more lethal.
They traded Iglesias to free up some payroll. You could tell this year that his stuff was on the decline and to get out of that contract for the next three years was actually smart. We also have Trout and Ward locked in for outfield spots in the future and it’ll be good to have some competition between Adell and Moniak with also having a solid catching prospect for once. As an Angels fan I actually thought the deadline was decent.
They didn't make the moves I wanted but I agree. Iglesias was looking worse and worse as the season went on and I'm glad they got off his contract. Trading Syndergaard was really smart and I love that they got former #1 pick Mickey Moniak who so far has been hitting really well. The Marsh trade was the question mark for me
Did you not see Raisel Iglesias pitch this year? Meatball after meatball. Dude really really struggled. Best thing he did all year was throw the seeds and gum onto the field.
The interesting thing about the Cardinals is the GM Mo plays the safe card, like longevity over a stellar single, maybe few years. Which is why the Cardinals have been consistent playoff teams and winning records for like 25 years or so. A lotta Cardinal fans obviously want the big name players, and STL is blessed with Goldy and Nado, but personally I’m glad Soto isn’t a Cardinal. Not because of him himself, but the Cardinals would’ve had to give up pretty much their whole farm system and I personally would rather see multiple successful Cardinals rise up than an minimum 1 year with Soto
Not all their prospects, but Dylan Carlson, whom the Nats were said to really love, and a couple of them. I'm happy too that they didn't pull the trigger.
the dodgers a chilling, we really didn't need soto and gallo is doing gallo things. I'm just happy we got him out of NY and we continue winning to prove who are the top dogs. We really shut down the hype over soto and the padres.
Montgomery has been lights out for the Cards. Bader can't stay healthy and the Cards were ready to move on. Carlson is not a big drop off defensively in CF, and Nootbaar has played well in RF. You can say the same thing about Tyler O'Neill, always hurt and he's been lost at the plate all year. Would not be surprised if they move on from him this off-season.
Respect the grade for the orioles. Broke my heart that Mancini was traded, but so far it hasn’t really mattered. The orioles are still playing amazing without him and Lopez. We got pitching prospects that are going to be ready in 2-3 years, so I liked our deadline. Not crazy, but not nothing either. Go os. Awesome to watch os baseball this year.
I think you overlook the importance of the reds getting Romine A. We have a Catcher B. They added a consistent veteran catcher who can aid the development of a young staff and handle them
As an O's fan. It hurt to see Trey go. But I'm just glad he went somewhere where he's gonna compete for a ring. I'm really interested in the prospect haul we got. Specifically Cade Povich and Chayce Mcdermott. Povich dominated in his first start at Single A, and Chayce has already struck out 10 guys in his first 5 innings of work.
Personally disagree with the D for the Angels, Raisel has been shaky at best and straight up bad at times, good opportunity to salary dump, Thor was on a one year contract anyway and since the Angels aren't in playoff contention anymore trading him isn't the worst thing in the world, losing Marsh sucks but the catcher position is a more pressing need for their near future.
Raisel wasn't so much the issue though, as he's been lights out for the Braves for the most part. What was garbage was the defense that was behind him, among other things.
The Soto comment, you didn’t follow what led up to this, he wouldn’t sign the last number that the Nats offered so they tried to get the most out of it by trading him and they have already going on a rebuild mode it was best for both. What’s funny is that people like you will get mad about the LA Angles waisting Trout and Ohtani, which that organization doesn’t know what direction they’re going, but you want to give the Nats organization an F because they know where they are at. Make up your mind.
Angels are slowly building their farm system and getting depth. That Raisel trade wasnt as bad as u said. Tucker was the Braves 5th prospect. Chavez has been outstanding. As for Thor, he has been awful for the Phillies and Moniak has been great for the Angels. Not to mention he was the Phillies number 1 pick in 2016 and he’s only 24. I disagree with the grading. Perry Minasian is a not a terrible GM, this is his only 2nd year and he’s starting to build the Angels in his vision not Epplers.
Sucks that he had a 1.048 OPS during his few games with the Angels only to land on the IL from being hit by a pitch... Angels can't catch a break with injuries lol I agree, I thought his Angels grade was wrong regarding almost everything he said but I still love his content and discussing it
Cool to see someone who understands the intent behind the Orioles moves when the reporters just took it at face value. Also I am in awe that THE Matt Bush is still playing baseball
I don’t understand why u can already grade deadline moves already. Montas had one start and it was bad it doesn’t mean that he’s a bad player as a whole
Mets gave up very little and got better in the little areas. They quietly have the best DH in the league every game now by playing matchups with Ruf and Beef. But they are so good everywhere else. They’re the best team in baseball right now.
On paper, San Diego looks like one of the best teams and most people seem to assume their gonna get the 4 or 5 seed comfortably. I think the Padres are still not nearly as good as people think and are going to completely miss the playoffs. Everyone is WAAYYYY too confident in the Padres ability to make the playoffs for a team that is ONE game ahead of the 4th place Brewers
Something I don’t think I’ve seen you do that I think would be cool, ranking all 30 bench’s (when having their best lineup on the field) for example Arcia and Grissom would be on the bench for the Braves even though they’ve been starting lately. Same with Sierra for the Angels
As a Brewers fan I would give them a D, I get trading Hader that I can understand, but I don't understand why we had to DFA Lamet even if we had to make more salary for Bush, then the Bush trade also was ok, but I really hate the Rosenthal trade, not only do we give up a to 20 prospect in our farm system, we only get maybe a month out of Rosenthal, unless we sign him again in the offseason, but we also could have signed him a month earlier instead of trading for him, it was one of the stupidest trades ever and he hasn't pitched in two years so we have no idea how good he actually will be.
Regarding the Astros deadline moves: You mentioned Will Smith is not who he used to be, but have you considered that the Astros tend to take mediocre pitchers and turn them into gold? It's their specialty. Also, I'll give you that Maldonado has been slow offensively, but defensively he looks almost better than ever and since July, he's actually hitting VERY well. Vasquez was supposed to be the catcher who hits, but now they both do so we are never sure who's gonna be starting. lol.
Amazing going back to this and seeing Jordan Montgomery going 4-0 with the Cardinals with a 1-hit shutout. It's still probably a B because the Cards do always make safe trade deadline moves but Quintana has been very good too. It's wild to watch what the Cards are doing right now and Yankees fans are hating that trade.
C for Jays. We still don’t have reliable pitching, and Mitch while is a filler SP brought in to replace a filler SP. We have only 2 consistent true starting pitchers. We were also trying to make playoffs, and at the start of the season had even higher hopes. Merrifield is past his prime, and is basically an advanced utility player for us.
The reds Castillo trade went in cincinnati 's favor, they got tons of prospects and they now have one of the best farm systems in the mlb. Watch them make the postseason in 2 years.
You forgot the biggest move for the royals. The draft pick trade for Drew Waters and 2 others. Waters is MASHING in AAA and is that big quality name you said they were missing.
The trades this year seemed very lopsided towards the winning team getting the better deal every time. Mainly a Royals fan, so the main problem I had was with the Royals not trading Merrifield last year or the year before. I think the vaccine status and Merrifields comments soured the Royals fo on keeping him around. I'm with you that I feel the Royals got fleeced on many of the trades. Should've pushed Yankees harder for at least a higher in system prospect, same with the others. Maybe Dayton Moore and company finally get the boot after the next 6 weeks is done? He hasn't been able to put in near as good a farm system as the one that propelled the Royals of the early 2010s. Padres definitely killed the trade deadline and Yankees look more "in" on this year than previous years. The NL is definitely more stacked team wise and I believe their representative in the WS will be the winner, whoever it may end up being
I feel like the royals have actually played really well since the deadline and I think the witt merrifield and benintendi trades allowed the younger solid players to get more time
i agree with your take on the orioles. they’re playing it safe bc they might not make the playoffs this year so they should sell the value that they have so their future is looking even more bright and they become more dominant eventually
Raisel Iglesias is 32 and has the worst hard hit rate in the league and is signed for 3 more years at $16 million. Angels have the 2 of the best closer prospects in baseball with Ben Joyce and Sam Bachman. Dumping that contract for anything is a huge W
I just got into baseball a few years back and I still dont get the whole TRADE TRADE TRADE frenzy that fans get into right before the deadline. Trading for players, no matter how good they are, is never a guarantee of success or even getting better. The Yankees get an A for their deadline and yet seem to be going into panic mode after losing like 15 games the past 20 days while the dodgers got a D and are flying higher than ever. And then Marc claims the Astros upgraded on catcher and first base but nobody seems to have told the Astros themselves given Maldonado and Gurriel still start over the new guys, Gurriels time might be up but Maldonado will still definitely be the main catcher for the rest of the year.
I think the Hosmer trade is great for the Red Sox because they're only paying him the minimum for his entire contract, and the Padres are covering the remaining 44 million. So there's really no reason not to have him, no matter how bad he might be (and he's been good so far) he's basically a free player.
Aye it may look like hosmer has been good, but watching him daily as a padres fan you can tell he’s bad. Idk how many games/runs he’s cost us on the defense. He had the hottest April and may, but fell off quickly which is why his stats are so inflated. He’s not clutch at all and has the highest ground ball rates ever!!!
the M's getting" castillio, was an A+++!!!!! dont care what anyone thinks. plus as i write this, hes already beaten the yankees twice" since my mariners signed him...
I am a Mets fan but I think the Mets got an A because they did not give up a lot and all the players they got are performing better than we thought. No one that excites you but everyone is performing
As A Tigers fan, I hate that Avila got one last chance this past trade deadline, but better late than never. this may have been his worst deadline. At least he can't do any more damage, but it's gonna be years before we recover from this.
I'm not really surprised by the Franmil move, tough to keep around a DH who's not hitting and will be due a raise next season. They'd rather rotate other players in the slot and move on, and he's an odd type of player where he's not quite good enough to start for a contender, but many non contending teams probably won't spend money on a DH and instead use other players.
As a Redsox fan I'm fine with Hosmer because we needed a 1st basemen badly and a part of the Hosmer deal is the Paders have to pay most of the money that's he is owed
Marc you deserve 500k subs for not having any kind of ad to promote. Alone!!! Sub this man Peeps. Damn, he gives it a straight up try with no BS. Hell a million subs is worth that much. P. S. the RAYS are in a dump market. Give them more love for being there. On so very little, bro. Lol keep it up.
There are teams that are worse like the Rockies and the Tigers. I don't particularly like Perry Manasian but I like the trades he made. Iglesias has been horrible this year and he's gonna decline and he's owed $14 million each of the next three years. Syndergaard was alright I knew they were gonna trade him at the deadline. Moniak's actually been good for the Angels so far but he just got hurt. The Angels should have traded Marsh years ago he's not that good
@@thatkristiandude4048 if you waste trout and ohtani at the same time with nothing but dogshit around them then you're the worst front office. Plain and simple. The Rockies and tigers didn't do what the angels have done to 2 superstars. Stop being stupid. Them adding Micky moniac means nothing. 💀😂
Sometimes I don’t understand why teams stockpile prospects at the same position. Like the Reds now have 3 Top 100 prospects at SS. Which is a versatile position but none of them are gonna be playing 2B cus that’s the only position that’s set in Cincy. So one can play 3B and maybe CF I guess. And even worse is the A’s with Catchers. Pretty much their only good player is a top 5 Catcher in Sean Murphy then their top 2 prospects are 2 Catchers in the Top 35 Prospects and then they drafted a catcher in the first round this year. Like do teams not plan ahead at having a full team when these guys come up instead of a stockpile at one position.
In hindsight looking back at AJ Preller's deadline with the Padres...2/3 of the main gets are performing miserably below expectations for their price tags. Yikes.
Need to calm down giving the Yankees credit for “fixing” Effross. The Cubs developed him, got him to drop down, and turned him into a pretty big SP prospect. Point is, he was lights all year on the Cubs BEFORE the trade
Dixon Machado has already been DFA'D. And how in the hell did you give up JD, he's been a Giant for a week and has already hit three Homeruns. In today's game he went 3 for 4. 🤔
@@michaelrotter1134 like what happened with Gallo. Went to LA and has a few singles and had a huge three run Homer. Some people just can’t handle the New York market.
I agree the dodgers didn't do much and the grade is about right but when you say they didn't do anything that improves them and they are trying to win it all. They have the best record in baseball did they really need to make a move ?
