I had to convert a pair of GS1000 to take a detachable cable as the original cable was starting to degrade. This video shows the process I used and it worked very well.
Over all, it was probably a 3 out of 5 on the difficulty scale. with a bit of patience and the right tools, most people could probably do this but it would take a few hours to do
