I am retired and my wife is retiring soon and we have put our previous retirement RV plans on indefinite HOLD, specifically because of the tsunami of RV problem's that seem to be increasing every year over the last decade. We had several new campers and trailers (Four Winds and Jayco) in the 80's and 90's when our boys were young and we loved all of them and used them extensively and I don't remember any real issues with any of them. I would not trust anything coming out of almost any of the current RV manufacturers and basically have to gamble and cross my fingers that I got the rig that was put together correctly and that someone MIGHT make it right if there is something wrong. I just don't need that aggravation. If I want to gamble I will go to Vegas, not to an RV dealer.
@Cybersawz

I agree with you. We bought an older Airstream (1986) which was well taken care of by previous owners. While camping over the past few years, we've met some other Airstream owners who have trailers built in the last 2-10 years that have told us to "Hang On" to that older Airstream as they don't build em like that anymore after sharing with us all the problems they've had with their new trailer. So, I think this pattern of poor quality control exists in many RV or trailer manufacturers.

I have spent years researching RVs and trailers and I will NEVER own one. I will 100% spend the money on hotels and restaurants. I have run the numbers and there is no WAY that the "RV" lifestyle is for me. Why the heck would I want to fix a brand new anything when I retire? Why do I want to sink tons of equity into a pile of garbage that will depreciate in value to zero almost instantly. RVs and trailers are a joke in my opinion.

I think GD saw a firestorm of bad press affecting their bottom line as in no new sales. I am really glad they took responsibility, but I wonder if is a thing where YT beat them over the head by numbers, but what about little guys with no access to YT and the sway of that influence. They HAVE to communicate with customers to resolve issues, because if they do not communicate directly, they will receive communications indirectly by BAD word of mouth, which will sink their ship. Tell the stockholders to take a back seat, because we are going to do it right and it will cost a lot, but in the long run, it will be WAY more profitable, having a sound product, happy customers and an empty service department because of no problems. I was a design engineer for a coach company, and I can tell you a significant amount of lost profit was caused by visits to the service department to fix stuff that SHOULD have been addressed on the line, before the coach ever left the production, not to mention customers who had to travel BACK to Oregon to have repairs done that should NEVER have been needed, if the machine was built properly to start with.

I have a feeling that Thor is going to have to defend a Class action law suit soon. Especially when there are $800,000 Class A Tiffin units involved. And a major lawsuit needs to happen. A big RV company has to take a massive hit for the entire industry to improve and for the US government to step up and create regulations. You don’t see this happening to tractor trailers hauling heavy freight. Grand Design probably thought it’s cheaper to fix the defects than defend a massive Class action lawsuit. They would have definitely lost the law suit and they would have gone bankrupt. I can’t imagine anyone buying a RV from a bankrupt company that failed to fix their defective products.

I had a 2018 GD Imagine that had the Lippert suspension mounted out of alignment resulting in a catastrophic tire failure. The damage included punching a hole through the floor as well as exterior trim damage and a wheel destroyed. That ended up being covered by warranty after I made a reasonable request. I sold that trailer in 2023 and replaced it with a new 2022 Gulfstream Vintage Cruiser, purchased in December 2023. Warranties were effective upon purchase date. In May 2023 after approximately 2000 mile being towed, the right spring broke and put me stranded near San Francisco on Memorial Day weekend. After calling Gulfstream and Lippert, I was able to get warrenty repairs made and to continue my travels to Oregon. Except. The left spring was fatigued to the point of near failure, too. After proving I had not overloaded the suspension (Cat Scale receipts) I arranged lower cost repairs at a shop in Eugene, OR, I requested that both springs be upgraded from 2000 lb rated three-leaf springs, to 2200 lb rated four-leaf springs with labor costs covered, too. Lippert agreed to this proposal and now I am back on the road, feeling safe and satisfied at last. I believe I benefitted from your channel and the network of RVers who speak out in support of one another and the RV lifestyle, full-time or camping only. We are all in this together! Thanks, Liz!🙏🤗

Regarding warranties. A company issues a warranty for a set period, then a year or two down the road the company folds and those warranty claims wind up in a bankruptcy court and are discharged. One should ask these manufacturers before hand if those warranties are underwritten by an insurance company for the full term originally stated, in case the manufacturer fails. It is what you don't know that can hurt you a whole lot.

It, if it's a part they cant get and you cant see they just skip it. I had my hot water tank develop a leak 3 years ago. No heaters in stock.....was nightmare. Do not buy any rv built in 2020 or after. I bought an older tin bunkhouse in 2017, seven years old. No problems except the water and heater went after 10 years. Best of luck to you all.

Their kryptonite has always been RU-vid videos exposing them but this video gives them public adoration. They are right now continuing to avoid a bunch of their customer on my "Grand Design RV Major Issues (5.2k members) Facebook site. They are pawning them off on dealerships who are not qualified to do the repairs, let alone diagnosing them. They are still trying to blame their customers for Grand Design's poorly designed and engineered RVs. There is way more to this story than what Patrick and Bea's experience was. Amazing Liz did an amazing job with this case. Thanks to the couple featured in the video for sharing their experience. Before social media, these issues would have been ignored by the manufacturers. They have clearly disregarded one of the main tenents of TQM (Total Quality Management) which was popular in the 1980s: the cost of doing the job right the first time is much smaller than having to do the repairs on a faulty product. So many other companies that embraced TQM have also forgotten or ignored these principles....Remember FORD and its Quality is Job #1!"

I’ve seen many videos on this . Now lippert can say they built the frame to the manufacturers specs. Then grand design overbuilt it and stressed the frame. But having said that , when lippert had the first frame break reported to them , if I were them I would have said wait a minute or reputation is on the line. I would have started working more closely with the manufacturer and say hey we ain’t gonna provide frames if your going to over build on them.
@borabora4480
@borabora4480 Месяц назад
It seems that these rigs are simply under engineered on top of the poor training for techs in the field. The engineering concerns extend from the frame to all the parts so given Lipperts involvement, they seem to be the main culprit. the weight issue is real.the industry wants to market these toy haulers to dreamers to carry what these folks would like despite they can not actually perform to that level. this approach is not limited to the RV industry. Consider the EV industry and the promises that have been made. Buyers need to understand the reality versus what they would like it to be. Good on Grand Design for steppng up. I can only hope that this is truly not a one off repair but they follow through. Now I wonder if they will start using carriage bolts instead of lags on their new builds each time despite Lipperts suggestions. Will Grand Design continue to market these toy haulers without the warnings of the weight issue?

This video is very disappointing and especially after playing my part in also helping Patrick and Bea with Grand Design! Basically, Grand Design was just let off the hook with this video and they are still doing this to people as we speak. You know this yourself Liz. The ONLY reason they did anything at all was because of your video Liz and I am glad Patrick and Bea got their rig fixed, after all this time but Grand Design was just let off the hook after everything that these guys went through, let alone what many other people are going through right now with them. Lippert is not the only problem here and no, I'm not letting Lippert off the hook by any means as both companies knew what was happening here. So Grand Design is basically throwing all the blame towards Lippert and not accepting the blame for poorly engineering their RVs. The new 5-year warranty has so many loopholes to let Grand Design easily off the hook and voiding a customer's warranty work. Grand Design told Patrick and Bea what they wanted to hear but they are not treating their customers equally. So, Grand Design repaired and strengthened the upper frame area with gussets and better bolts, etc. So WHY didn't they build it this way in the first place?? Answer: cost. This is no different than the Ford Pinto fiasco in the early 1970's. Ford could have fixed the problem with something like a $5 shield to protect the gas tank in rear impacts. But they didn't. Why? Because they determined that paying out lawsuits for death and injuries was more cost effective. Fortunately, nobody has been injured or killed by the inadequate build quality of RV's.....yet.

Stop buying anything made in elkhart County, Indiana and maybe then we will start seeing some change! The Indiana Mafia (as many of us call them) have been getting away with this for decades and now they are being publicly exposed. Start looking into RVs made in other states like Oregon or California who also build their own frames to a better standard. RV employees also need to start a workers union to fight back the abuses they are also going through in many cases. Remember this also, RV assembly companies and dealership are in this mess together because they created it together and they do nothing but deflection and delay. I have no sympathy, knowing what I know now, for dealerships either. THEY should have fixed the problem and addressed it with their supplier, NOT the customer. I'm sure they thought how can they balance things and not irritate either. The bottom line is, TAKE CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMER not their supplier who is building crap. The reason, in part is, they BOTH were sticking it to the Customer and hoped it wouldn't backfire... but it did!!! Sorry, but the way they first handled things speaks louder then how they are handling things now...
