@@dk.2260 That's not fair. We were all young once, and wisdom takes age and experience. He was trying to do the right thing, and his grandmother betrayed him. His grandfather also committed suicide, which is heavier stuff than many of us deal with at his age. I thought I heard the caller say sister reported her, because CC were in her name. If the balance was high enough, sister might not have had a choice. CC won’t right off the debt as fraud unless there’s a legal action taken. So grandma ended up in jail because of her own actions, no one else’s. You can’t assume to know all the facts of any story in such a short, one sided, retelling. Edit: LOL just hit resume play, and thats what Ramsey ended up saying. Guess my comment here was moot.

Sounds like something my mother would do. She always wanted to be on my accounts "in case of an emergency". I lost access to one of my accounts one time because everything with her name on it got a hold put on it. She tried crying and all sorts of emotional manipulation but I kicked her out of my finances and later out of my life entirely. Best decision I ever made.
@DrogoBaggins987
@DrogoBaggins987 6 лет назад
You can tell when someone has really grown up when they can tell their parents the truth or the truth about their parents to others without emotion. I was in my thirties before I could really do that. A lot of people really are more fortunate than they realize. Great parents or evil ones we all have to be honest about those relationships in order to be well adjusted adults. It's sad to see people blame everything on their parents and just as sad to see people trying to make their parents out to be wonderful when they were actually abusive. Some people do the same thing that the caller describes but in the other direction giving their children money and things when what they really need is supporting relationships. The family money dynamic tells a lot about people. It's good that you realize that you are fortunate. A child in a shack or a castle both feel normal and don't see their situations until they mature. With a good or bad family history it feels good to tell the truth.
@khadijahwashington168
@khadijahwashington168 6 лет назад
Drogo Baggins yes it took a while to wake up the reality of unhealthy parents . It's a shame that people don't really get that they are abusive and manipulative and sadly will not take ownership of anything that they do. People are truly blessed to have a loving and balanced parent
@dcjohnson2490
@dcjohnson2490 6 лет назад
I was thinking the grandmother would try that on him, if and when she gets out of jail, and has been manipulating him, which is why he sounds so passive and weak over the phone. I hope he fights the good fight and takes control over his life. I had similar troubles with my mother, though I was 16 at the time an not 25,. I'm 27 now and although my mother and I do get along, I wouldn't allow her any sort of access/control over my finances.
@DrogoBaggins987
@DrogoBaggins987 6 лет назад
DC Johnson It's really hard to deal with controlling parents. Even when I was a thirty year old army veteran it was difficult for me to stand up to my mother and make her stop her control freak behavior. Luckily for me she really revealed herself and that helped me with breaking away. Sometimes you just want to yell at people to grow up but you have to realize that for some folks a domineering control freak has been working hard their whole life to keep them from growing up so that the domination can continue. Just don't ever get in the middle of something like that trying to help someone out because nothing good can come from it.

This kind of happened to me about 20 years ago as a freshman in college. I was preparing to buy a cash car and noticed my mom had taken $2000 out of my account. I asked her about it and she said she planned to pay it back. I told her dont worry about it and closed my bank account. I blamed myself.

I am learning what an anomaly my family is - parents married in 1942, had 5 kids, never a ton of money but lots of fun, nobody smokes or uses drugs (not that we didn't along the way...) we all have jobs, etc. We are very blessed! Listening to these poor people, I will never forget I am blessed. Coulda been me, you know?

Believe it or not we've got lots of pockets throughout the country that are not as educated as others in many things many people in other places take for granted. If you study a few key things you'll see how our system very, very much relies on this and, with certain pieces of information throughout the country's history you'll find some of the who's and when's helped to establish such sadness. Plenty of people are greedy and manipulative and for many different reasons. Granny is one those people and there have been many, with power, welding it throughout history causing nasty cracks and deficits in our country as well.

Not that I disagree, but some points to consider. His sister had done the same thing. It could have seemed quite normal to him; she may have even suggested it to him. The question is where the parents in all this?

Fraud committed by family is more common than you would think. Sad that his grandparent is doing this to her grandkids. The betrayal is terrible. What's worse is then the thief blames the victim and will say why are you doing this to me!

Strange Dave didn't recommend to call to the police to press charges for identity theft. I realize Dave is trying to be sensitive because we're dealing with an old woman, but she's a criminal and it's the only way to clear up this mess.
@eca2641

gimpinmypants he didn't have to. She was already there, in jail due to the sister...he did tell him the only way to rectify identity theft was to file a police report thereafter but I got the sense that he was going slow with him due to his grandfather just having to commit suicide. 😞
