Wow! Best advice I've ever come across as a designer. I love it. You've just given me the connection between design and digital marketing. I've been struggling to properly mesh the two, but now I get it.
It's crazy how often your content and timing are utterly perfect. I've unwrapped the aluminum foil from my head and am now completely receptive to input. (And hey everyone, join the Brand Designs Masters FB group--it's great!)
Great points especially about “do you want to like this graphic design or do you want this graphic design to drive results for your business.” I think pushing their pain point about getting the RESULTS they want is excellent.
This video is posted right in time. I struggle so much with this problem with companies I work for lately.... Thanks for this video and these examples :) Keep up the good work!
I'm going through this right now... I'm in an endless loop in which the customer is changing his mind almost every week not understanding the idea of strategic design...
Cool. Always love the videos. It would be a great follow on video showing a company with a good set (or bad) of examples of strategic design. I realize more work for you ;-) appreciate all the videos and work.
Rick - examples are tricky - unless they are very large companies - because you can been seen as tearing them down - for your own benefit (and larger companies *tend* not to do things too poorly. But there are of course exceptions!
I don´t agree with you, I think that every Graphic Design is Strategic Design, that is why it is called Graphic Design not Graphic Arts. Sometimes the strategy is business related and sometimes is abour other things.
I understand your POV. You're right in assuming all graphic design is about communication - but there can-and does exist graphic design that is not about a deeper level of brand strategy - and that is what this video attempts to tease apart.
