I'm a firefighter in eastern kansas, my last grass fire was a 6 foot line in a ditch where someone threw out a cigarette butt. We put it out with a shovel xD
Don't be fooled, this kind of grass fire can get out of hand faster than you can believe. My Son and I were going to burn some junk furniture a few years ago. No big deal. I had a clearing bordered by some grass about the size in this video. I noticed he had placed some of the furniture closer to the tall grass than I would have liked, but I thought oh, this is nothing we can't get on top off with our shovels and some monitoring. Started the fire, the taller grass caught, and we were in TROUBLE fast. Racing against the fire we could not keep up. Finally in a panic I called 911 and the local FD shows up. The FD shows up and acted like this was no big deal. We were panicked but they took their time setting up, and checking equipment and getting ready. Chilling, smoking cigarettes ( I am kidding here of course). Finally they started spraying, and the fire we had fought so hard to stop was over. Litarily in minutes. Kudos to the local FD, and a hard lesson for us. We were covered in soot and sweat. The FD was clean and ready to go to a dance.🤣
From this video I see the amount of patience, quick thinking a firefighter has to have. Not sure how they manage to breathe in midst of the smoke. Unknown heroes. When I see a fire engine, I try to visualise the power of rain.
@@tzq33tdq yeah I have been on a few fires where we are the only ones there for a while and trying to stop it fast before it gets real bad running 10gpm to stretch the tank as long as you can
traditionally speaking you're supposed to run in the black because there's no fuel there I personally on a lot of fires don't like doing that because you can't see what you're doing and because we're mobile we can shoot right across the line and in the black if we get in trouble
