It was amazing to see how well that man was able to hang on to the front of that fire truck and still maneuver the hose onto the fire and keep it from spreading !! Kudos to the men of that particular fire Department from one former volunteer fireman to all these other fine gentlemen! GREAT JOB YOU HOSE JOCKEYS !!

Nice work in difficult conditions, guys. Fires in tall grass are always challenging and the wind was something else. Y'all were getting it done (and eating a lot of smoke). I watched all 4 parts. That was great timing on the barn as well. It's a good feeling to roll up on something and be able to make a difference. I like your teamwork on the truck.

Those are some pretty gnarly wind gusts, what all gear are you wearing to protect you from the smoke? Just your nomex hood and goggles? We have been pretty lucky out here where I live considering how dry everything is right now.
@jrockyhill

It was REAL bad winds were gusting above 50. Yeah just the hood and goggles. We have smoke masks but they fog up so much. Thanks for watching hope your area stays calm

@@jrockyhill I don’t wish Ill on anyone, but this is why we do it lol. I live for this stuff. And thanks for posting, I’m the rookie on our department and your videos have actually taught me a lot. I’m a visual learner, and seeing how you guys operate has helped me a ton.

In my state, they are trying to phase out ride-on trucks in favor of walk beside apparatus. If you get a grant for a new truck, it has to be a walk beside. They have never apparently fought a grass fire in a 40+ mph wind.

That's the truth

The people who set most of the rules have never done most of what they think is best for those who have first hand knowledge. They want a brush truck to have 2 walk behind positions but don't take into account the outcome of a sudden wind shift when those same members are 50 feet behind the safety of engine.At least with a ride on if you need a fast get away you still have the fire fighting ability once you reach safety unless they expect you to roll up the line you have out before running for the safety of the cab with flames running toward you and your truck. Can you see the headlines? Brush truck lost and Firefighters injured while retrieving hose line while a rolling wall of flames overtook them.

I do see the reasoning to a point but hat is just plain stupid. In their eyes it saves on injuries and helps to ensure a fire is put out but at the same time in a wind driven fire it takes off while you wear yourself out trying to chase it down. We used to build our own brush trucks until the regulations became so strict that they force you to do what they want instead of just letting the departments fight fire.

Was just thinking…. When out of water, I imagine y’all gotta drive back out to refill? Would be nice to have capability of having a helo fly out with a full bag to dump into your tanks via a hose. Or do they already do that?
@jrockyhill
@jrockyhill Год назад
No in our area we don't get helicopters very often but when they do come they just dumped directly onto the fire when you run out you just have to go out and find a tanker

If this is short grass prairie would fire not be beneficial to some extent? Not trying to be critical of what you are doing just inquiring from an ecological standpoint.

Yes but in a controlled environment not 40mph wind with cattle and a house down wind
