I am on a personal mission to get you using more grasses in your garden. In this weeks video I look at 5 hardy ornamental grasses that you can use to add structure and shape to your garden.

Thank you for this enthusiastic video! I'm trying to study for an exam on plant usage for landscape architecture and find it hard to grasp the qualities of plants by just reading Facts. This video gave me a nice insight! I'll check out more of your channel now. :)

I really haven't done much with grasses myself. But I do love this one Milium effusum 'Aureum'. It's a day-glo chartreuse! Would be a very nice complement to a hosta bed. Also, carex are safe for tortoises so they make a great addition to an outdoor enclosure.

Hi. If I have miscanthus flamingo and Karl forester, what is the best way for me to propogate these further. Do I just divide them spring?

what i would find really helpful (anyone?) would be a (20 min+) video of ALL the various types of grasses. best of all would be a spilt screen, divided into four sub squares showing the following in each of the four quarters: 1: the (pre-flowering) foliage 2: plant with infloresence 3:close up of spikelets 4: the plant as it looks in winter and finally, full screen video footage of how the mature plant moves/sounds in a breeze (for grass gardeners).

It would be helpful to know the cold hardiness Zones of these grasses. Many of them won't work beyond Zone 5 (lower New York state or western Vermont on Lake Champlain for instance). Please check cold hardiness before buying and planting - probably many people watching already know this.

I bought a Rubrum Purple Fountain Grass in NH before I found out it's Winter hardiness is zone 6, so of course I lost it. Nearly all other popular ornamental grasses, with Mexican Feather grass being another exception, will survive New England winters.
