2nd set...drums.....space....Gimmie Some Lovin"..........................I can't even say anything about this 2nd set. This is one of their greatest sets, EVER!!! ENERGY OMG I was at this show. It was on fire!!!
I wasn't there but Man I get it!!! Had the tapes for years!!!!! One of my fave raves ever!!!!!!! You're right sooooo much energy but spaced out as you can get!!!!!!!!!! So good to see it too!!!! You were so lucky to be there ems
@@emrysdavies1215 Yeah but YOU weren’t THERE so YOU don’t KNOW!!!! Yes!! I’m jealous of anyone and everyone that’s seen jerry!!! I know it’s not the hippie way but just saying
Talk about being dialed in! They were firing on all cylinders with a bouncy groove permeating throughout the show. As a veteran of over 300 shows, I would say this is one of the best shows I had the pleasure of attending. So many highlights. Epic CHINA > RIDER. The SCARLET > FIRE reaches peaks of monstrous proportions. Gar was on fire!
I did that whole , North east tour that year. Snow in Portland on , April Fools day, , rocking in Springfield, Mass, , 3 days on Long Island, I almost got busted , but ended up with my picture on the front page of the " Long Island Register :20,000 hits of paper in my Yurgo. In front of my tent. From Canada.
Our first GD show..and here we are over 100+ shows later..How fitting to get on the bus with first song, Truckin! Long Live the Grateful Dead, and thank you BH!!
My first show. At the time I liked the Dead but wasn't really into them. Well, you know how people say they never really "got" the whole Dead thing until they saw their first show? My friend was telling me this on the train out from NYC and I was like, "What? That's total crap. It's just a concert." Five minutes into the show I realized how wrong I was. And I was never so happy to be wrong about something.
general admission shows...and they were LOUD!!! I couldn't stay in front of the band...'85 was awesome...so many new/borrowed songs...took me over an hour to find my car after this one...my head was swimmin'!!!
This 3 night run were my first shows outside of the southeast were I'm from. I was warned by friends from New York that New York crowds could be drunk, rowdy, etc. The parking lot scene felt a bit too druggish for me, but inside the Coliseum it was totally cool. When I went down to the floor for the first show, there was a guy asking everyone to pause for 5 seconds before entering the floor just to set up an easy going vibe. People were giving each other space to the point that I even spent one set on the front row with a couple of feet of space behind me for easy dancing. I went in with a throat infection that I figured was going towards strep, decided to dose anyway, and by the end of the show I felt totally fine. Oh, and the music was excellent.
I was to come out to the Nassau shows with college mates from MN. My finals finished earlier than the others ant they kept pushing back our departure time. I jumped in with some Heads I had not met previously and drove with them to Mass. Somehow scored a single to each of the Springfield shows which was a hard ticket. Then me up with my friends in Nassau for these shows. Pretty awesome run! Truckin', Smokestack, High Time to open....please! mosier1
I was lucky enough to be at this one. Easily the best show I’ve personally seen and the crowd was immersed in it. Never saw or felt anything like it at any other show...of course I did have the perfect cocktail that evening....but you knew that this one was special. Still blows me away. Highlights for me were the Scarlet, jam into fire and fire was ridiculous. The jam after looks like rain cool. And the jam from gimme sone lovin into black peter sounds like Pink Floyd. Awesome to find this show here. Thanks for posting!!
totally awesome show. I had to sit on a curb outside after the show for a half hour, before I could even think about looking for my car!!! I remember the "heads" stealing a beer keg out of the Marriot hotel the night before!!! Oh, those were the days....the best!!!
Thank you so much voodoo,i love you! I had no idea that i would be able to see and experience these shows again. I grew up on long island and went to every dead show and jgb shows at nausea coliseum. GD Fun Fact: In 1973 the nassau coliseum opened for business. The Grateful Dead were the first band to play the arena. Bill Graham productions with general admission tickets that cost about $6 if my memory serves me well.I also recall one of the spring 73 shows opening with a solemn Hes gone,as pig had passed away while they were on the road. What great memories. Like jerry, i used H for over 30 yrs (snorting only) and i know what jerry went through.Only been "clean" (from H) for a couple of years now but if i had my life to live over,i would do the same thing. I love the dead more than life itself and i am now 58 and sometimes when i watch a show like this i get all teary eyed. My first show was Nassau coliseum spring 1973 and i lost count of how many tours and shows i saw. I never could hold onto a good Day Job!
I love u for loving Greatfuldead so much ! I hope u can stay clean , I’ve heard it’s one of the hardest drugs to kick ! I’m so sorry u went through that awful drug but being able to stop is a miracle !
I spent three days in the parking lot, sleeping my '69 Impala after two nights in Springfield, Mass....Then on to Philly. College grades took a beating that spring!
A year before I was born, 5 minutes from the home I grew up in. What a set, I like to think these vibrations permeated through my home while I was growing up. 😅
Let's keep it real; 1985 was one of the best years ever. The crazy set lists, the invigorating energy and good times the boys brought throughout the year.... 85 was an explosion of serious fizzled fun funk like only Jerry and the Band could provide. 77- great, no doubt. 85 thou? Sorry if you slept on it, but so glad you found it!
NO ENERGY?? I was at this run of shows.. The energy this night was incredible, crackling with energy. I remember like it was yesterday, everyone in the parking lot was talking about this particular show at the time..
Incredible set 1, trucking , smoke stack high times open was not normal. Ended set with one of finest china riders played, the bridge is pure fire. Second set keeps going.
voodoonola thanks so much for sharing these videos; I'm an old man now, but, my college years were filled with over 150 dead shows....THANK YOU, YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!! WHICH WAS YOUR FAVORITE SHOW?????
Johnwayne I agree 85 was actually a good year even with Jer going down hill. some great great shows that year. Brent was on fire and that kept the music moving .SPAC in june was a great show as well
Jerry, however, was not going downhill. Lotta hearsay has been heard about JG's lifestyle, but not really my bidness. I just let his guitar speak for him.
I was late for the show. The car I hired took a wrong turn somewhere and didn't get there 'till the 2nd set. While driving, the man of the hour came out with, "He's playing, Truckin'". We knew it. The driver made us insanely late, 'cause we gave him some good ass stuff, that made him miss the sharp right turn, the road sign, to make the right hand turn to Nassau Coll. When we arrived, the band went into, S Glad You Made It. So Glad You Made it, had a bit of a run there at later shows. So forkin' memorable!
I'm tellin' ya, I wz late for the show, we knew he opened with Truckin' when we finally got in and had our seats, he played, So Glad You Made It. I AM NOT making this up!!! We were to Garcias' right, 2nd tier. Really, big deal, but iz so cool to see a show, you were at and the going ons. Another, we got there and he played Queen Jane Approximately, into Morning Dew...2nd set and the show was rockin'!!!
i love peggy-o so much, one of my favs., what a pretty song! which one is considered the best version ever, does anyone know. if so,please let me in. !!!!OUR CAPTAIN FELL IN LOVE!!!!
I don't understand how someone could go to shows in the early Persian '80s, and then after one show in '85, wake up to find out that they are jamming for too long. Did someone prevent you from listening to any second set tapes during all those years?
What happened to those shows at the Meadowlands, NJ, the shows right before these Nassau Coliseum shows - February 1985, last 3 days?? They are nowhere to be found! What's up with that!?
Hello from , Vancouver , Canada . I did the North east tour that year.... was sitting in front of my tent in Uniondale ...came down from the new England shows . ended up o the " front page of the Paper with 10,000 hits of paper in my lap....covered by my SMILING FACE > bugger those newspaper reporters !
Long Island Register, was the paper , as I recall...it got me more " liquid " sales .I had been on tour for a few weeks.....Portland was cold.......it was nice to be south .Ya gotta love the Dead. (Nobody for President)
Wow their jams were always long, so guess you didn't know anything about them to begin with...the jams are the best part, that's kinda what they are all about....
Folks commenting on the lack of energy at this show, have to remember that Jerry was in horrible shape mentally and psychically during this time and in a little over a year would lapse into a diabetic coma. And with all this going on I still find 85 to be one of my fav years for the Dead. One particular tour is the NOV run and of course the 6-24- cincy show....my first!! R.I.P big brother Jer-Bear
Does anyone have the audio from this show? This show took place on the day a good friend of mine was born. I would love to get him a copy of this for his birthday. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Paul Martin Ya, I use clip converter, download for the shows and movies. You can change the format to AVI, MP3, MP4, etc. Then you can put them to disc.
Sure this show has a great set list and some cool highlights. The main problem with the mid-80s shows IMHO: its all about the tempo. Everything always seemed so damned rushed and, hence, mailed in as if the band was in a rush to get to the break. The Peggy-O here, while not the only example, is a prime example. Couldn't imagine why! (sarcasm). Still beats not having any Grateful Dead shows to attend.
China>Rider to close the first set! Scarlett>Fire to open the second set! nothing more to say! aside from the fact that the soundboard quality of the audio makes the so-so video more than bearable!
Great second set ... except Bob turns up toooo loud in the middle of the first scarlet solo and because if this make the general coherency of the jams less interactive. you can hear phil and jerry wrestling with Bobs somewhat obnoxious rhythms... lol ... all in a days work.
Yeah what I have found out watching the live shows throughout the hrs is that people assume because Jerry was deep into his addiction to whatever it was at the time or that his health was bad has an effect on the music. I would say what were supposed to be some of his worst yes health and addiction wise he still cranks out some amazing performance. It wasn't til 92-95 that they really lost some magic, yet I have listened to shows and parts of shows from that era that were great.
When we were in NY a gun went off so the security guards took us up in the balcony along side the band ! It was scary as hell but they got the gunman , he was going to shoot Jerry as like John Lennon was , to become famous , what a stupid reason ? Jail for the rest of ur life !😣😖😫😩😤😢🥵🥶😨😰😱that’s all the mad in me ! I love Jerry now as ever , until I die ! 😢😥😍🥰😘❤️🐰🐇🌹🎼🎹☠️💀👽🪐🛸🥀☮️🍄got to high on the shrooms yesterday ! 🍄😱🤪😜😝🥳🤩😇
