My friend Alex showed me this when he borrowed it from the local library. I was quite stoned, and taking in every word from the performance as if it was from god. I was blown away by how much better "Live" is over an audio recording or a track... this song got right to my bones, the way they performed it and added their own spin... honestly all I can ask for in an album, much less one song. RIP Alex, miss you bro.
My brother died by suicide 10 months ago and the line “wipe these tears from my eyes, I can’t shed them anymore” must have been exactly what he was thinking. Cry every time I hear this now.
There's no shame in checking out because it hurts too much. Deep down the desire to die is a desire to see yourself in your essence, as awareness itself.
Brent’s piano just elevates the Dead so much. So much talent up on only one stage. Wish I had been alive to see Jerry and him and see places like the Vet and JFK
I had the greatest privlage to the great full dead twice while Gerry was alive it's a experience I'll never have again with any other bands God bless the great full Dead!!!!! Rest in peace Gerry!
Never really been a big dead fan but this is the best cover of this song period.the "just like so many times before" really adds something special to the chorus.great harmonies and musicianship on this too
@@sergeytoropin6428keep looking for that speck of light, leave the self-hate and guilt behind; 5 days later & I'm here I was able to hang on enough to see the tiniest speck of light
It strikes me watching this, after looking at several other videos of songs performed live, how respectful and appreciative the audience is, they aren't totally silent, but they are there with the band, in the moment.
+Dean Martin great cover dean but i will take Guns n' Roses version all day. I believe the guitar playing is superior. That being said it just shows how great a song this is
+Dean Martin This cover band is amazing. One of the top three Dead cover bands I've ever heard. They really sound and look like the Dead! Only a few things that were off. Amazing.
I'm not a real fan of the Dead or other stoner music.. But this version is perfect in all respects. Hats off to Jerry and the band. Subtitle .. How to Make a. Great Song Greater. Maybe I should revisit the Dead.. Live at least.
I've come to understand that the search for God is like riding around on an ox, hunting for the ox... God bless the broken boat that brings us back home.
Thanks for this great video with quality sound for the age. Nice smooth version. Seams like they were singing it to each other. Thanks for sharing 🙏⚡️🐻
Well, he had a good 6 years left at this point... check out footage from Summer Tour '95, most of it is pretty painful, though like any dead show, or tour, there are moments that shine through the muck.
Here it is......5/24/2014. Bob Dylan's 73rd birthday. I was at this concert. This was the last Dead show I saw making this the last live Dead song I heard. The old stadium was a wreck. But it was also a big part of my life. Saw numerous football games here......Army Navy games. Also many concerts. One that sticks in my mind was Gary Wright, Peter Frampton, and head lined by Yes.
This was your last show, and my first, and 25 years ago today we were both there with 100,000 others experiencing something that just doesn't exist any more.
As bad as RFK was, it beat the hell out of the old "bump, snatch, and run" Scrotum (Spectrum). If you looked closely at the form prints from when it was poured, you might've seen Hoffa's, and a few others' reflections in there.
Thank you for the post, this was so powerful at the time, still is ,but it is extra special.Jerry connects with all of us here.never forget that moment ever.peace Jerry.Rip.Brent Rip
I met David in petaluma, a great friend of Clay and when Clay told me who he was I felt lucky to meet him and serve his coffee every time he went to Hallie's for breakfast. Great person just like Clay. Greetings wherever you are. 😢😢
Not with our current president. He is so off the rail and angry and destructive. Every country has a historically bad leader. Trump is ours. He alienates so many people, here and all over the world. No prince of peace at all.
What's really brutal is when you have rights taken away, honors overlooked and and more is lost. For some of us this song hits home with a true story in a world filled with lies and worse. Whoever you are, whatever you're going through, find something you can do after the strife and loss. Each year take in something new to outgrow what this world tried to tear you down to. Meet others along the way who recognize your morals and your pains so you grow and they can too. All is not lost unless you let it be. Ensure your story is known somewhere somehow to help others or at the very least beat your enemy in some significant way, even if that's just escape and growth.
its a great song, anyone who plays it pays tribute to that fact. but dead versions are always (in my opinion) the most soulful and emotional.. theyre longer and just so much more powerful
Well, with that said you sir might be a sign of which this planet may not see again....what do you have for us? Do something to memorialize this for us all as this was a day to remember for me as well. Mine is a Chemist in Delaware. He was sent here on 7/20/89 The Dead mark our paths we just do not know it.............Peace n love.
I remember this all too well. Jerry said the stadium was closed. This was the last event ever there. Told everyone at 2300 that by philadelphia law they where supposed to stop. They played till 1 am. at least that is what i remember. Was so stoned by then It didnt matter. But the dead put their heart and soul into that concert.
Yup, Last show at JFK man. I was all over the place, On the floor, In my seat then always behind stage for the drum solo. I could always get behind the drummers at the shows, Just talked to the guard showed him I meant no harm and I would sit close enough to see Mickey and Billy do their thing. Once the band came back out as promised I got up and split thanking the guard. But man that place was in bad shape, Urine flowing out of the bathrooms down the stairs. Didn't hear a word Dylan sang.
so f**** proud to have been with all ya,.. dancing right beside ya many times ... we may have hugged even and exchanged a tale or two... good to see u again... peace my family ...
Found out this morning my cousin died in a car accident. Our uncle was murdered in the 90's. I remember me and my uncle Tom sitting in lawn chairs listening to this. Last night 2 of my family members were reunited. Today I grieve for loved ones lost
did anyone else see the dylan and dead show at aneheim stadium sometime in the early 1990s .... knockin on heavens door with the sun setting was chilling
they did this at Irvine Meadows right after Jerry came out of his coma in the 80's. this version almost as good. it was sad and joyous and gave me chills. still does to this day thinking about it.....
The trouble with the Grateful Dead is they make the same song sound delightfully different each time they play it. One is exasperated looking for all the versions and put them all together in a file.
The typical Philadelphia concert goers were ripping the plumbing open in the restrooms causing rivers of water to spill out on to the main concourse . I miss that stadium. I attended some great shows there including live aid
This live performance is recorded on spotify. This is a great performance and I just had to listen to it on the road so I thought I would let y'all know just In case you wanted it somehow.
This was always the song we were most disappointed to hear for an Encore. Knocking meant Walkin. Because they played it too much. But over the years Since Jerry died I’ve come to think that this is actually vintage Jerry. Brings tears to my eyes
