"Tear that old building down they did! From the Closing Of Winterland, the Dead certainly gave their home venue a wonderful, appropriate goodbye, with an all-night show featuring some of their greatest, most-loved songs. The building stood for another seven years before it was finally demolished in 1985." - David Lemieux

It's all happenin' right here. Subscribe and you won't miss a thing.

Why is this video only 360p? This is blaspheme!!! From my first show, Hartford, Conn. '77, it was obvious to me then that this band and crew were always striving for and always had the best possible video/sound quality available at the time. Of all the bands I've seen and heard none of them even come close Never! (Except for Hot Tuna around '75, '76 and '77 when they were using some of the GD's Wall of Sound) It's obvious here that nobody who was in the GD or crew has anything to do with these videos. It's a Musical Industrial Complex deal now. That means greed and just not giving a crap might somehow be lurking about somewhere behind the scenes of these videos and the music contained within them. Blaspheme I say! For that the people responsible must get stoned! Not to death but with doses and bud! Maybe. just maybe they'd see(and hear)the light. Still love this video though! Just say'in, dig?

@davidsthubbins176 4 года назад
I'm not a guitar player, but I love when you can hear Bob's guitar really well in the mix. As much as I love the late 80s, I think he got lost in the mix pretty often. I love listening to early 71, before Keith was in the band. Bobby's always really loud in the mix, and I love the tone of that hollow-body he was playing.
@brettlazor8219
@brettlazor8219 4 года назад
David St Hubbins I completely agree! I love shows where Bobby is turned up in the mix, gives the sound so much more texture. That hollow body is probably my favorite of Bobby’s guitars next to the pink Modulus he used in the late 80s-early 90s
@brianmeagher1873
@brianmeagher1873 3 года назад
Bob in '71 sounds so goddamn good and Phuckin' Phil my god! They evolved because that's what us humans do (some of us) but sometimes i need to go back to hollow body tones and let that richness sink into my ears.
@STSGuitar16
@STSGuitar16 Год назад
@@davidsthubbins176 I’d say it’s not so much that bobby got lost in the mix in the 80s, it’s more that bobby just went for a completely different guitar tone as the years went on. There are basically two types of guitar pickups (pickups are the magnetic metal bar-looking things underneath the strings on the guitar body that pick up the vibrations of the strings and send them to the amp): single coils (like Jerry used on his Alligator Strat and Wolf), which are often a thinner, more jangly sound; and there are humbuckers, which are essentially two single coil pickups put together in one pickup and give a thicker, warmer sound. Bobby used humbucker pickups from the very beginning of the Dead all the way until the 80s, when he switched to using single coils. Once Bobby switched, his tone got super thin and very trebly, and it only got worse as the years went. You’ll notice to this very day, his tone now is just the continuation of his tone getting more and more thin and jangly-sounding over the years that started in the 80s. In my opinion, his tone during that period (and now) really works against his playing in many ways. I don’t want to speculate here, but oftentimes older rockstars lose a lot of their ability to hear sounds on the high end of the spectrum; they lose the ability to hear treble like the rest of us do. This might be why Bobby’s tone has gotten thinner and more trebly over the years, as he may not be hearing it sound like how the rest of us hear it sound. In my opinion, his playing these days is still great, but his tone is to the point where it almost takes more away from the overall sound of the band rather than adding to it as he did in the early days. I really really wish he would go back to using a guitar and amp setup like he used in this period. It would really make any band he plays with sound a lot better than what he currently uses. Just my thoughts, though.
