Though I totally condemn what Russia is doing (war with Ukraine), however, pls someone correct me if I am wrong, isn't it true that the US breached some treaty that specified that NATO wouldn't expand to countries bordering with Russia? Now when they are trying to protect their borders they're being targeted as villains... Isn't the US and NATO the villains here?? I am more than willing to understand the situation - yes, again war is never the solution, it only causes destruction and brings doom... If the US can breach a treaty, can't it try to attack Russia in the future had Russia had kept silent and allowed Ukraine to become a part of NATO?
You are correct. This is something that NATO is unwilling to acknowledge. In this conflict it is Russia who is being vilified by the Western press but it is NATO WHICH IS BREACH of ALL TREATIES.
The USA is not NATO, but is only one member of NATO and can not make treaties on behalf of NATO. In any case what ever promises that were made it was not to present time Russia but to the USSR that no longer exist, and these talks and supposed promises were made orally and were never recorded in any treaty. So no, there is no signed or written treaty of this sort, neither with Russia or with the no longer existing USSR.
If there was such a treaty.. Russia/Putin would be able to pull out the paperwork and signatures on the paper.. ( you see on Tv when leaders make deals they sign they hand over little books or copies of the agreement). As of this day no such paperwork or receipt can be found.. And a verbal agreement is not a binding agreement in any court.
