Hi guys! Here is my first attempt at an infantry tutorial for "Graviteam Tactics" feel free to leave any comments below. Did this help? What other tutorials would you like to see about Graviteam? Thanks! Agrippa Maxentius
Just found your channel not to long ago(like an hour ago). I was watching your Operation Hooper videos(great videos by the way), and I was like, I want this game. I managed to get it, but(even watching videos about it before), was lost ahaha. Thanks to your tutorial, it was easier to enjoy the game. It is really a great game.
Agrippa Maxentius Ahaha, funny thing is, that is the only DLC I have. Oh, wait no. I bought the one with Fall Blau in it. I think that's what it's called anyway.
I installed this game the second time now. The first time i was too frustrated and did not really understand how to play it. Your tutorial is very helpful and i hope i will be more successful this time ;-)
I played this game one time, and despite having many hours on many different strategy games from all eras and varying degrees of realism, from Rome II or Empire Total War, to Ultimate General: Civil War, to Men at War Assault Squad II, I found this game overwhelmingly complicated. It left such a bad taste in my mouth that I never touched it again, but this is a very helpful tutorial. I think I'll give it another shot!
Oh man, I've given it a solid try, but I'm still confused on so many things. 1) I hit the "Area of sight" button, and I feel like I can never give my guys a good field of view. I could put them in an open field and they still can't see. Now, I've only done night battles so far, so maybe that has something to do with it. 2) I haven't successfully used mortars even once so far. Each time I try, they never fire. The closest I got was 25%, and then they got captured somehow, despite being behind my line. 3) It's very hard, for me, to know for sure if my guys are actually shooting the targets or not. I wish there was a straight up "Attack this" button. Usually they automatically engage but sometimes I'm not sure, and once there was a tank right on top of my guys (literally, feet away) and they didn't shoot it! Fire at will was on, and I selected the tank with the fire zone and the priority attack commands. 4) What do I do when my guys run out of ammo? Just have them run away and stay back for the rest of the fight? They don't last very long at all before they start blinking due to low ammunition. 5) Wire Links. It automatically sets them up. Do I do anything at all to set those up, or just set the command unit to AI? 6) In one match, I felt like I got my rear handed to me, though I did take a lot of territory in the process. It ended up being a defeat, but I don't know how, because (to my surprise) the stats show that The Enemy only had 40% of their army left while I still had 75% of mine, and I received an achievement for getting 15 medals in one battle, so it feels like a win to me. How does that end up a defeat? I dunno, those are just a handful of many questions I have about this game. I want to like it. I generally like detailed war games like this, but it feels really confusing. Maybe the newer ones are better?
Excellent. Thanks for the first tutorial. I would like to see a cursor so I could see which button you were pushing. Of course it was snowing so it might not have shown up. I enjoyed the mortar firing part which was new to me as well as targeting. Good job. Now more ;)
really like your channel dude I don't subscribe to anyone who does not have a lot of subs but you really made me happy while watching your video for some reason.. P.S. thanks for posting this my frickin turtorial on the actual game was driving me up the wall...
This one of those games where the thought of playing it keeps me coming back to it again, but the practice of playing it bores me silly. I really want to enjoy it, but I just can't overcome the clunky UI issues and understand some of the weird behaviour of my own units.
Thanks a lot, Agrippa! I Think I'm finally getting my head around this game. Surely would like to see more of your GTOS guides. If you do some more, could you elaborate on different symbols that pop over the guy's heads? As I get it they have something to to do with morale, suppression, getting directions from other units? So far I only know that if it flashes - it is bad )) I also hope you'll show us how to attack stuff. Thanks again for your effort!
Good intro Agrippa. FYI - You had selected the spotter for air-strikes, if there is no way to get aircraft in (e.g.no-fly snow storms) you don't get to set target zones. Would have been nice to get some Shturmoviks in ;) Maybe players can note the red icons on the unit management bar (bottom) - at one point a group of your troops were taking heavy fire, had 0 morale & low command (all red) - these icons give vital feedback when you try to decide what to do. & it also tells you what they are likely to do! As for your mortar, it is possible (with luck) to drop rounds into open APCs :D To improve accuracy check your range & LOS. Don't forget to monitor ammo use (the ammo truck on the strategic map may be a while in arriving....) & for anyone who hasn't seen the text guide I've been scraping together - steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=339318454 This may help understand some of the stuff going on in the above video.
Agrippa Maxentius Airstrikes are...interesting. I've seen Stukas dive bombing Soviet positions, but I haven't seem them really do that much damage. I want to try them against entrenched positions rather than forces that are on the move and see if that makes any difference, but IMO they're a bit under powered. It is always scary to see planes come swooping in, though. Good stuff!
I have had several occasions where Stukas have really ¬@#!*-up a fixed position & let the German forces break through decisively. I also had times when they hit the wrong area & was very relieved... ;)
jcmiller101 Haha yep all part of the game. Ive seen Germans accidentally bombing their own infantry positions, since mine were so close. Always brings some immediate satisfaction :D.
Hi! 12:35 I think u selected the artillery spotter, if I recall correctly, his platoon (or maybe company?) commander has the actual ability to call in the strike. Offmap artillery barrages are tricky to execute, as it takes a lot of time for them to prepare and you need to predict where the enemy will be. In the next tutorial maybe u could include unit organisation (the menu in the middle, second from the bottom), like in this skirmish u had 3 infantry platoons and a company commander. Anyhow nice video, I enjoyed it!
Agrippa just one question: what's in your opinion a good, easy, campaign to start with GT? I own the base game, Hooper and Shield of the prophet. Thanks!
Awesome! I must say for me personally "shield of the prophet" as the Russians was the easiest, although to this day I have yet to actually BEAT an entire campaign. I am currently on 13/15 of the Russian Campaign in SOTP and am doing extremely well. Hope this helps!
Great video, very helpful! You have a good speaking voice. However, Stavka does appreciate your constant bemoaning of your lack of tanks and armor, comrade. Mother Russia must be defended!
nice ! I found in placement mode commander should be placed in rear of troops commanding so does not die if he does the unit suffers to much moral loss and command so protect him as best can
+Agrippa Maxentius would you recommend any of the dlcs? i kinda think the cold war ones look really cool but what about the ww2 ones? also consider me subscribed :D
Sky Scraper21 Thanks! I recommend shield of the prophet as alot of the battles are open desert battles with alot of great combat. But every DLC is great. If you like Jungle Combat take Hooper
Let me just thank you for making a tutorial on this. For that alone i am going to sub. Hope you will make more in depth tutorials about anything that pops into your head like "Hey.. people might really like to know this" kinda stuff. Great stuff friend PS: Next time it would be really great if you put "show cursor" on. Trying to keep track of what you are clicking, hardmode :D
Lemuron01 Thanks Lemuron! Ive often wanted to do more tutorials on this game with the success of this video, any ideas on what else you'd like to learn? Maybe I can do an "attack" tutorial next time.
Agrippa Maxentius Sure man i got some ideas. More in depth about stuff like how to reset a campaign, and the fact that frustrated me to no end was that i just managed to deploy my troops in my first battle.. took me about 20 minutes until i was satisfied. After this i just wanted to head into options to take off the tutorial text because 90%of what the text was saying was kinda obvious. So it ended up being just frustrating clicking it away while waiting for first contact. But i misclicked and ended up clicking "Operations", which then took me out to the campaign map again... and when i then clicked back into the battle, the battlefield looked different and all my units was randomly placed around the map again. Which caused me to push "Quit game" and try and watch if you had some more videos out.. its god damn 100times better listening to you explain stuff and understanding certain aspects of it before entering in.. then trying some of that stuff out... and then come back for more when you've figured it out in practice. Thats also one of the reasons why it would also be great to know how to reset the campaign since trial and error doesn't result in the best battlefields.
Lemuron01 Haha great idea, the interface can definitely be a pain in the you know what. I can certainly make a tutorial based on the interface/map system to avoid any issues.
It's a balance of everything, even a defeat is important in this game. If you know you're going to lose, do everything you can to damage/disable the enemy units/army.
+Bidartarra They are indeed, dead units do not dissapear :). Vehicle wrecks also don't dissapear and often if fighting on the same tile you will see abandoned vehicles from previous battles.
Great tutorial, I'm definitely getting this game. The penetration indicators are really nice, haven't seen something like that before. The rooster sound in the background drove me a bit nuts though, can you order your soldiers to kill it? ;)
Haha sorry about that xD, that's my parrot, "comrade". And I certainly would but she is probably capable of killing an entire platoon with her sharp beak xD. I have a few scars to prove it. I love the penetration indicators too, as unlikely as it is you occasionally get a small caliber round penetrating something as thick as an APC.
Graviteam Tactics is $6 on steam at the moment , vs $50 for combat mission . Both are great Tactic level sims , but graviteam is on a lager map scale . For $6 head to Steam make an account and grab it , for the price its very good and you can purchase extra campaigns for under $2 , a killer deal . Get the demo of Combat Mission its very very good too
6:33 no seriously, I fell pray to this. I created a map and im attacking a german entrenched town. I ordered my troops into an assault on the town and things turned ugly fast. many men refused to continues moving into the town. when I tell them to retreat they hold their positions. when I tell them to assault an enemy building they preferred to stay behind the sheds and fences. war is confusing. g
Love this game, but I have some MAJOR problems with it. 1) Germany infantry are essentially USELESS against Soviet armor. Except for certain command units, who have I think a single AT mine which works in an ambush 10% of time, infantry have literally zero anti-tank weapons like panzershreks or panzerfaust. They don't even use Molotov cocktails like the Soviets (and yes they were used during this time by both sides, among other homemade weapons). The 7.9-mm AT rifle is a wasted slot, and the PAK AT guns can't seem to get the job done no matter how many shots are fired at different angles, which leads me two my second complaint. 2) Soviet Armor appears to be invulnerable. In one of the other scenarios, in which a soviet tank brigade moves south to deflect a German Armor advance, I played as the Germans. Being familiar with the scenario I decided to not advance on my first turn, instead moving my armor north into an entrenched position to absorb the AI's attack across the river. It was a night battle - low visibility. My forces included two or three Marder tanks, along with three or four Panzer IVs spread out in a line but in good cover, along with an artillery spotter in a half-track (for flares and concentrated artillery strikes along expected routes). My killzone was the opposite side of the river, up to 1000 meters, so well within range. I really enjoyed watching all of my armored units firing multiple rounds against three sides of a single T-34, which in my mind should put it out of commission. I should not have to watch a single tank TANKING all of those shots, only to have it knock out several of my units before finally being taken out, which is exactly what happened on my last play through. I do not understand the hit mechanics AT ALL. 3) Ammo, especially infantry ammo, is spent too quickly and is a PITA to replenish. It would be extremely nice if, instead of moving units to a resupply location, they replenished ammo every few turns/hours. Even adding soldiers to a unit (and thereby lowering the quality of the squad if they're green or less experienced). I'm not asking for a complete restock of fuel and ammo, or even personnel, but SOMETHING would be better than nothing, so long as I have an active ammo supply area behind my lines.
Thanks Blasta, I definitely agree that the T-34's seem to be a bit OP. The anti tank rifles are basically useless but I have had some lucky hits on the side armor of German Tanks. I think positioning is especially important when facing the Russians, I sort of try to space my tanks out so that one can always try a flank. But I also haven't managed to beat the russians ina campaign so far.
Agrippa Maxentius Why am I not surprised to hear a Soviet player got lucky with an AT rifle against German armor? :) Yeah, Soviet armor needs to be flanked hard in order to knock it out. My strategy for the scenario I mentioned was to fight in a "checkered" manner, so one of my tanks would not fire at the tank directly in front of it, instead opting to fire at the tank that was on the right or left and trying to get a side shot, but since they came piecemeal I figured knocking a tank out instantaneously was a sure thing. Speaking of OP - infantry in buildings firing upon infantry outside. Holy crap! Buildings SHOULD count as very good cover, but they're not fortresses! I can't seem to figure out how to order armored units to use HE on buildings. Instead, they'll use their MGs and be just as effective (See: not at all) as infantry. Otherwise, I just run my tanks into the building and kill everyone inside (if they're not set ablaze by a moltov, that is). Sigh. I love this stupid game.
Blastadonn Hahah same here man, there are so many issues but I still adore it. The close combat is for me the funniest "and silliest" part. You're absolutely right, if I have 3 german tanks vs 1 T-34 I can usually score a kill if I send to two tanks to flank, but even then I am surprised by the amount of shells it takes to pop a soviet tank.
