On Saturday the 7th of October 2023, we made a trip over to the Great Central Railway for their biggest gala of the year, the Autumn Steam Gala, and had a fantastic day at the wonderful Quorn and Woodhouse station.
Over the course of 4 days (Thurs - Sun), a plethora a locomotives and multiple units were in operation, including the following:
- Standard Class 2MT 78018
- Standard Class 2MT 78019
- Standard Class 5MT 73156
- Standard Class 9/9F 92214
- Stanier Class 8F 48305
- Modified Hall Class 6990 'Witherslack Hall', which was running as 6988 'Swithland Hall' for this event and the previous one, the Railways at Work Gala.
- Loaned 'Split-Box' Class 37/3 D6700
- Metro Cammell Class 101 Railcar paired up with the loaned Derby Lightweight Railcar M79900 'Iris'.
And Finally, the two visiting locomotives for the gala were:
- Scratch-Built GWR Saint Class 2999 'Lady of Legend', which was recently built at the Didcot Railway Centre and tours the country, visiting various heritage railways, staring in galas just like this.
- 57XX/5700 Class Pannier Tank 7714, visiting from the Severn Valley Railway, another heritage railway home to a large collection of steam and diesel locomotives.
