My goodness Charlie, a sizeable update indeed! 😲 I really like the section where the helix tracks duck down under the reversing loop. Great potential for a splendid looking set of retaining walls in the cutting and a great place for photographing trains for any 1/76 spotters with just a short trip across the way to the TMD! 🤓 Cheers Charlie, get yourself a well deserved bevvy and have a great weekend mate! 😉👍🍀🍻

Thanks Charlie for the Great progress post. I inherited Marklin 3 rail set up that Uncle started 1950s , my aunt decided to use the 6x4 base for a cat litter box?!?!. I would like to tell the whole story of the rescue, and when expansion drawings only allowed the train only went one direction, the rusting Wren 3 rail had to be replaced with Marklin K nickel track. Then began a big learning phase of engineering the layout. Thanks Charlie if you read this post. Des Kingdom. Australia

Very informative video. Another reason to push the insulated fishplates back is to provide a clearence point for trains stopped on the other track and signal block locations even when not using reversing circuits. Then when an engineer runs past the insulated joint of track that is lined for the other track, the train will short out the circuit but has room to stop automatically before running through the switch and derailing. Charlie, another fun video.

After a break of 60 years I am starting on an end to end country terminus and since watching and catching up on all your videos over the last 3 years it is always in my mind that black is to the back. Excellent progress Charlie. Where you're getting very close to the edge with the reverse loops perhaps employ a similar thing to how your electronic panels drop down? By this I mean plywood or perspex if you want to be able to see what goes on in there and then you will be able to protect from cliff diving derailment and be able to access for maintenance.

Hi Charlie ,, Its a good thing you sorted out the reverse loop happenings and is very similar to real track work and signalling here in Australia like when the green Iight turns to red we had a light on and when a then as in the section the light would go out and once it passed that section the light came back on again. When i first started on the railways I was always worried that there would be a collision with all the train movements as we were a junction station (& being only 17 yo) i got used to howmthe system worked and we had to make time to keep it all running efficiently without anyone collisions or hitting each other but as I went along we all used to get a turn of working the signals and points and lock levers (track lock systems) in place to keep trains a safe distance apart from each other. After working there in the ticket office on the platforms and signalbox all in all to help keep on top of things we all use to help out as we were short staffed but we got things done which is the main aim. Keep up the gr8 videos m8 ,, there oarsome. Cheers from John in Australia.

I've got the same black and decker workmate with the same scars and I've done the same thing so many times over the years, but I wouldn't be without it. No-one can criticise your skills in building this wonderful layout, you must be getting to the stage now when you can take a day off building work and just play trains. Charlie, great video, and good to see such progress. Always worth remembering that you need a pair of reversing loops, as you do for line swapping point pairs. Regarding the length of track between the point and the start of the reversing loop zone, whist there may be subtleties about the reverser trying to align with a switched target (which I don’t quite agree with, without failure switching), I do see that your passing loop will need an end-of-section area that is still clear of the points so that the other line can pass without fouling the train that is on the other track. Thanks for the video; vicarious living lives on!

Excellent solution. It might be helpful in DCC to not think in terms of polarity but actually it's phase that we have to think of. The joining sections at each end of a reverse loop are technically out of phase with each other as DCC is an AC signal. Well done in any case!

You absolutely must scenic the tunnel mouth where the train leaves and enters the helix! Walls up from the helix to the level of the TMD, decreasing in height as it goes.

@@ChadwickModelRailway Think of a tunnel under a river. The railway descends into the tunnel mouth, the track progressively lowering. The walls hold the earth back. When I watched your train exit the helix in this video, rising up from between the two sheets of plywood, it was all I could see. No obligation.... Have fun Charlie!

I learn things every video you do. This time I expander my British vocabulary! Having been a Polymer RD Chemist names polymers are quite precise. I had to Google “poly thene”. This is not a term used in naming polymers. What Dr Google enlightened me to was that this is a British expression for polyethylene plastic. How quaint! Here in the states we have our share of such words, like Visqueen (name of poly ethylene film made originally by Hercules) or styrofoam (a product name for poly styrene. Now that I have bored you to tears, you put out yet another great video. All is newbies to the advances in electronics can profit from watching. Again till your next video. From the Texas Gulf Coast.

Well done Charlie - I’d literally just put down the cork, weighed it down with books - then sat down to watch this! Then when you reached the part about putting plastic down, I had to run back to the layout, lift the books and put down plastic (bin liners) Sure enough the glue was coming through to the books - disaster averted!!
