I’m just a guy who watches shark vids on RU-vid, but I’m pretty sure that’s a basking shark. The dorsal fin of a Great White usually looks a bit sharper. Hard to tell if it’s a white belly or an open mouth scooping plankton but the dorsal fin does not look like a white shark.

It is a basking shark filmed in Paspebiac Quebec on the Baie de Chaleur. There were a couple of them that hung out in that area for a few weeks a couple of years ago. The shark, while large, is harmless and feeds on plankton.

Honestly it could be either species the only true defining feature would be the nose in this case and it's very hard to tell. With the sudden disappearance of white you may assume it a basking shark closing it's mouth. Or a the camera angle. But the dorsal fins of a great white and a basking are about the same and years of wearing down can lead to them looking identical. But either way it's just about harmless if either species

I live in Louisiana and we have Lake Ponchatrain and it's brackish water and we get bulls and some hammerhead sharks but the Hammerhead only comes into the lake in the winter which is when the lake has its most salt content but the whites stay in the deepest part of the Gulf of Mexico and they won't travel anywhere near freshwater outlets!!!!

@@YourPalDrewski That's not really specfic, the river stretches a 1100km. At least 300 km from the mouth to Tadoussac.

Hi Michael sorry but I wasn't there myself can only tell you what my friend who took the footage said
@YourPalDrewski
@YourPalDrewski 5 лет назад
I can tell you they could see open ocean so it wasn't too far inland probably 20-50k ish from the mouth
@michaele1278

@@YourPalDrewski I think salt water starts at around Tadoussac and the river gets really wide east of that. Just past Rimouski its very wide and you can look like the ocean. You aren't that far from the gulf by then. If Greenland sharks are found that far in, I am not surprised if a "great white" or a "basking shark" can be found. I'm no expert so it's all interesting and new to me.

It’ a Bull shark, great whites don’t go in fresh water, but Bull sharks do 😆😆😆😆😎
@YourPalDrewski

It's true but a great white could get confused and wander in for a bit unintentionally before heading back out into the great Atlantic
