The more I travel the harder it is to decide what food I love best, but I tell you, the Greek palate is one of the absolute best. Thanks to you for the great travel tips. OPA!
The best ‘foodie’ video so far from Wolters World. Jocelyn, your enthusiasm for your Greek cuisine really came across well in this video. Salivating in anticipation of my next visit to Greece
We used to have a healthy source of Greek restaurants in SE Wisconsin, but sadly, they've mostly gone away. Our real estate agent, 1st. Gen American, actually was an owner of one of the best in town. And thank you for the proper pronunciation of gyros. Drives me nuts that even professional chefs cannot get that one right! Keep up the great work Jocelyn! Hope that couch was comfy, Mark!
Favorite dessert of all time lukumades, cinimon sugar and honey on fried dough balls. Unfortunately only found two places that served them while in Athens.
I spent 4 entire summers there in my 20’s. Met a Greek boy but his mommy wanted him to marry a Greek girl, not an independent, tough NYer. 🤷🏼♀️💪🏻😂 My favorite desserts were kourambiedes and melomakarona (cookies) or better yet, just a few kerasia, cherries from my friend’s family’s cherry tree, sweetened in a simple syrup. Eat two or three with a coffee. Heaven. Fresh grilled octopus with a squeeze of lemon or yigandes. Those big beans sautéed in onions, tomatoes and garlic. And of course, olive oil. And another fav that was always the best there.....FRESH YOGURT! The AUTHENTIC Greek yogurt with a drizzle of honey and sprinkle of walnuts. Yum!
This is getting me very excited for our trip next summer. The food brings back memories of my grandma’s cooking. She was Armenian and cooked a lot of the same foods desserts you mentioned in the video. Jocelyn always looks lovely no matter her hair :-). Karen
I always thought their food looked so good and healthy. I used to order stuffed grape leaves in a pita. It was so good. Thank you for sharing that information.
OH GOD the souvlaki we had in Athens is in the top 10 best foods we've ever eaten. Greek food is incredible. You should totally make a day trip to Chicago and we can explore Greektown and compare it to Greece!
The closest I'm getting to Greece at the moment is the Greek restaurant in my town. I keep meaning to try something other than the tyropita but every time I look at the menu my brain says "cheese. pie." and it's game over. Lol.
Love your videos. I just came back a month ago from Crete and I love it...watching your videos brings great memories of my vacation!!! Thank you for all of your videos!
Goodness this made me hungry when I watched this Mark :-O :-). Thanks indeed for sharing this :-). Have a nice evening and take care :-). From Foxy :-).
If you ever make it to Manchester, UK there is a restaurant I try to frequent at least once a month called Rozafa which does the best Greek food I have had outside of Greece. I always answer Indian food when people ask my favourite cuisine but really it's Greek when I think about it. It is food for all weather and seasons. Octopus really is fantastic to eat. I wish I hadn't shied away from it for years.
I ate Greek spicy olives watching. There are so many foods I have not tried yet and been coming to Greece 6 years. I will try new ones now. She is a great teacher and interesting about the octopus. Tried it this year for 1st time in Japan, but havent in Greece.
Hi. I’m allergic to sesame (anaphylactic). Which foods should I avoid while in Greece? Foods that might contain, tahini, sesame oil, sesame seeds, anything SESAME. Thanks
As a greek i can assure you that while you are correct in terms of , if you wanted too you could go without eating meat forever in Greece cause the cuisine in it of itself offers plenty of vegetarian options and they are delicious, the average Greek loves meat and we eat meat quite often if you include fish we could eat meat potentially 4-5 times a week. Some even more than that.
@@Jaheira30 what do I know? I am a Greek, lived in Greece and living in Cyprus, every Greek that I know eats meat every day. most, twice a day. every few blocks in the cities and in the center of every village, there are a couple of souvlaki and gyros makers. only religious people go vegetarian while fasting 40 days before Christmas and 40 days before Easter but once the faest is over they eat meat like crazy. everyday Greece is a vegetarian's nightmare. of course there are secret societies of vegetarians and vegan hipsters, environmentalists and animal lovers, usually those women with many first world problems and concerns. let's hope that sooner or later, their actions will be illegal in countries like Greece.
Jocelyn's hair looks like it can be in a hair commercial. Very long and luscious and blowing in the wind. I literally thought a little before Walters disclaimer.
This is pure torture to listen to 😜. For the first time in many years I have not been in Greece this summer 😢. By the way you did not mention Stifado and meze 😃
Any recipe recommendations to make any of these at home? (I can't really do any of the seafood as we are far from the ocean and fresh seafood is very expensive) I would love to try these without having to spend thousands of dollars and fly across an ocean. Thanks for any help!
0:24 Why Americans keep saying this bullshit all of the time, that Greeks eat mainly lamp and goat. Greeks since the Ancient times till today, eat mainly 1) Pork, the finest pork on the planet and 2) Beef indigenous greek and then chicken, then Goat, lamb rabbit and the rest. Therr isn't and never was any Flamb and goat souvlaki in Greece, get over it.
No, actually Greece can be a veggie's paradise! People here love meat, but you can have so many options of vegetarian or vegan food, too! (And I'm talking about traditional recipies, not tastless modern stuff!)
There is no "turkish cuisine" . Turks coopted cuisines from the people that used to leave in the minor asia ( Greeks, Armenians etc ) . They mixed the recipes with the arabian ones and.... that's the "turkish cuisine" !
I would say that some dishes are completely Greek like souvlaki and tyropita Some are completely Turkish like kebab Some are balkan and middle eastern in the same time, like dolmades and keftedes.
