For this album review, Green Day might not reach greatness or the territory of their classics, but it's comfortably their best in fifteen years.
Best Songs: 'The American Dream Is Killing Me’, ‘1981’, ‘Goodnight Adeline’, ‘Coma City’, ‘Corvette Summer’, ‘Living In The 20s’
Worst Song: 'Fancy Sauce'

Dilemma is one of Green Day’s best songs in YEARS

After how disappointing Fall Out Boy’s last album was, a band that has gone through a similar slump as Green Day, it makes me happy that this Green Day album is getting some good buzz. I don’t need it to reach their highs, a good album from them is something I will happily take!

I’m in the same boat but for me saviors was more than just a good album from a band that was big in the last 30 years

Rev Rad is really underrated and I like it more and more as the years go on and yes if cavallo produced it I’d would be even better

I have been a fan of Green Day for as long as I can remember (go figure with brothers who were into the punk scene). Revolution Radio was released when I was 17 and that album became the soundtrack to my last year(s) of high school. It has become a very personal album for me, and I will defend it to no end. However, even I can see that Savior is the best that they have released since 21CB. Where Father Of All... had to grow on me a lot, I pretty much immediately fell in love with this album. It feels good to fall in love with an album like that again.

It's okay to admit FOAM was bad, Green Day themselves think so. RR was pretty decent though

Green Day are a phenomenal band, so only poor one was FOAM, but with their history aren't they allowed a dud!

Currently taken down because of DMCA copyright nonsense. I'm in the process of fighting them as we speak - hopefully should be able to get one of the lists back online within a week or so, fingers crossed!

I've always found it weird how much Green Day gets targeted for what they do, and this is no different. I enjoyed it a lot, it's objectively the best since 21CB (I'm a fan of the dumb fun that is Father of All), and it shows Green Day doing what they always did: not giving a shit. I may or may not spin this more as the year goes on, but to call it a stinker just says to me people didn't listen to it

Love this album. Green Day is my favorite band, and this is my favorite album since American Idiot. Like you, Mark, I love 21st Century Breakdown but it could have been trimmed down a bit, and same with the trilogy. It should have been one album and had better and more polished production. RevRad had 2-4 solid songs and Father of All was rough of course so this is a welcome comeback for them. I’m all for it!
@eduardosaguier8944
@eduardosaguier8944 8 месяцев назад
The trilogy was a scam from billie to Warner in order to kill 3 records in one shot, leaving only 2 records on contract before be free. They made RevRad for their Anti-Trump and gun violence, but for FOAM, they make the worst on purpose and save the best for 1972/Saviors. Foam = The troll mic drop album to Warner: “Remember, AI is our blood and genius, we are the father of the all motherfuckers albums we made , good luck Warner on getting profit of this last album 🤣. “
@MysticClaws100
@MysticClaws100 8 месяцев назад
@@eduardosaguier8944 I'm pretty sure the trilogy only counted as 1 record on their contract. I think they tried to make it so it counted at 3 but weren't allowed. The fact that they didn't decide to cut it down to 1 album after that basically shows that they were passionate about what they were doing at that time and there really are a good few gems across the trilogy even if the full package isn't great. The whole theory about FOAMF being made bad on purpose is just not true. There's no evidence to support it. It really was just the band experimenting and trying something different. It didn't work, that doesn't mean the band deliberately didn't put effort into it
@eduardosaguier8944
@eduardosaguier8944 8 месяцев назад
@@MysticClaws100 the main evidence of Foam Theory, are the Lyrics. As you said the trilogy has few gems, but also has good lyrics on most of the songs. But FOAM, besides the experimentation the lyrics are bad. The only song they might put heart on is Graffitia. And a song they had fun doing it Sugar Youth. And promotion it with an American Idiot Cover with a troll unicorn says it all. In each Album tour they played 5 to 6 songs of their new album. With Foam only 1 to 2 . ( Foam and Fire Aim or Oh Yeah ) Just check the set lists . They just wanted to troll warner with bad sales… but never disappoint the fans on concert 🫶.
@MysticClaws100
@MysticClaws100 8 месяцев назад
@@eduardosaguier8944 The only reason they didn't play FOAM songs is because the Hella Mega tour was a greatest hits tour. It was also delayed by a year and nobody cared about the new songs by the time the tour came around. If it hadn't been delayed they likely would've at least played 1-2 FOAMF songs regularly on that tour

Great to still have you amongst us 21stCB enjoyers, the album gets too much backlash (some of it deserved) and despite its flaws I can still respect the fact that they went more abstract and experimental with its narrative. I'm still processing Saviors but as it's happened since the trilogy, minus Father of All..., there's at least 4 or 5 solid songs in there. The P!nk ripoff in that one riff was hilarious; speaking of which I also spotted some Letterbomb interpolation in Stranger Days' chorus, but again Green Day aren't strangers to recycling their own melodies.

21st Century Breakdown, the trilogy and RevRad all had long/multi-part songs. 21st Century Breakdown, American Eulogy, Dirty Rotten Bastards, Forever Now. They may not be quite as long as H/JoS but they are going for a similar type of multi-part song here, with Forever Now especially

@MysticManiac I guess, but they don't have the same impact. I guess I got spoiled with how good American Idiot was with it's concept album

I'm a longtime Green Day fan (been listening since I was 14) and ardent 21st Century Breakdown defender, but this album really did not do it for me. I see Saviors having the same effect on Green Day fans as Life Is But a Dream had with A7X fans - it's either an incredible return to form after years of phoning it in, or it's a criminal bag of hot dog turds that's somehow even worse than if they'd just phoned it in again. No in between. I lean very, very hard to the second half of the equation on both fronts. That said! I'm happy to see the tides turning on 21stCB and more people appreciating it as the years go by. I'm hopeful that it'll continue to gain more well-deserved respect.

I can’t believe how good this Green Day album is!! It sounds like all different Eras from the band, I love the fast songs and I love the slow songs. My favorite tracks were 1981, Strange days, Dilemma, Corvette summer and look ma no brains. The songs are catchy and the slow songs are Actually just as good as the fast songs, like I loved fancy sauce( unlike you 😂) but that’s ok, we’ll all have different tastes, also Goodnight Adeline was really great also

So happy that Green Day are back to being Green Day after so long and by providing some legit kickass mainstream punk rock not made by the pop artists in 2024 that absolutely lives up to the title of the album.

4:15 See, that's why I didn't like 'Fancy Sauce' the first time I heard it. It felt really problematic in how it tackled mental illness. It's a shame because honestly it actually sounds pretty good, production wise. Also "watch the evening news 'cause it's my favorite cartoon" is a hilarious line. It's grown on me a bit since the listening party but I still don't think it should've been the closer.

I still prefer Revolution Radio (there’s not a song as great as Still Breathing or Forever Now on here, even if the production is considerably better here), but this is pretty solid, at least to the dude who adores their run from Kerplunk-21CB. Dilemma and One Eyed Bastard are real good though.

I think in Father Of All they tried to fit their sound in with the younger generation, and it brought this “how do you do fellow kids” vibe. Plus it didn’t help that all the songs just fuckin’ sucked. Here, it’s them saying “fuck it, we’re old. Let’s do what we do best” and they had the lyrics be relatable to the kiddies instead of the sound. It’s a much better look for them, and I think the album is probably their best since American Idiot.

As someone's whose favourite album is 21CB, this album makes me really happy even with a lot of the rehashed ideas and certain weird lyrical choices. I'm feeling a 9/10 for this album right now and I probably wouldn't have been this excited for this album if it weren't for the issues that the band has had since 21CB. If it were a follow up to 21CB I would probably be somewhat disappointed. But it's just really refreshing hearing this after FOAMF and even RevRad which while solid is not a stand out for Green Day. I totally get why some people don't love this album and if I were to try and be more objective in my assessment, I would probably only be able to give it an 8/10 at maximum, the issues this album has just aren't bothering me much at all. Just hearing a well produced Green Day album where it actually feels like Billie has something to say and the band has something to add to their discography is really nice (even if I do think the trilogy actually has a lot of genuinely good moments throughout despite many moments being mid if not just bad)
