505 looks like 488nm, 520 like true 505 (to our eye) just camera picked it up like that

Some people are literally incapable of seeing the difference. Some people just have too low of a cone count in their retinas. Color blindness is actually a lot more common than you think especially lower grade color blindness instead referred to as color deficiency.

Nice, Richie!! As common as they are, I don’t have a 532 greenie. I’ve been thinking of buying a cheap module and packing it into a pen host. I do have a PL520 and PLP520-b1. To my eyes my pl520 is a couple nm lighter green:). 🤘

Unfortunately, I missed out on ordering a 532 nm Viper from Dragon Lasers when the company was still selling pointers. The quality was outstanding - incredibly low divergence. Even the very weak ones with 15 mw or 35 mw were great. Bought a 50mw 637nm Viper instead which is my favorite pointer to this day - bright red but still a round beam shape and very low divergence. My Spartan 445nm with 1.1 Watts is great too - with high quality lens, but it's so powerful you have to be extremely careful all the time, so I rarely use it. I'm considering getting a weak 488 nm, which is easy to see but not that dangerous.

I built a 520nm laser to use for astronomy. It's a great laser, but I'm thinking of making a new build with a side-mounted pushbutton, keylock, and beam expander (for safety) using a 505nm. Apparently, 507nm is the wavelength that night-adapted human vision is most susceptible to, and 505nm direct diodes have the benefit of being far more cold-resistant than 532nm DPSS lasers. and the mint color would be a conversation starter!

I think the cameras discriminate 532 and 520 better than my eyes. I have both but see no difference.

so is there fog in this video or not? I keep seeing videos of the 505nm having a visible beam but now Im not sure if the beam is visible or not.

532 may look nicer, but that fades when you see a 1000% price increase for 1w compared to 520.
