From Not good to a 2 and now a 3, if GVF keeps up this pace they should have a 10 in 16 years

“GVF’s Most tolerable album yet” *gives it a 3* Classic.

I understand why Josh's vocal style might not be to everyone's tastes, but calling him a bad singer is crazy to me

I DO NOT listen to Greta Van Fleet just want to make that clear. However I'm sorry Melon calling Josh's singing "one of the worst" is just simply not true. Dude has a issue with sounding TOO much like Robert Plant who we all know you have sung their praises before so it comes off a just a baseless criticism that is unneeded and again one that isn't true.

Ngl it hasn't been too long since I realized Greta Van Fleet is not a 70s dad rock solo artist but a band that started up less than a decade ago

You can’t just casually toss in that House of Balloons is better than the entire Led Zeppelin discography so nonchalantly

Never been a fan of these guys but it's cool to see they got a decent score.

I'm very grateful for this record. The name reminds me of "Stargazer" by Rainbow, so I keep having reasons to listen to that song instead of GVF

“One of the worst singers on the modern rock circuit.” Objectively, this is an absolute numpty take. Josh Kiszka is a crazy good singer. If you don’t like him, that’s perfectly okay, but to say he’s not good is ridiculous, and makes me not take you seriously.

I actually liked battle of gardens gate more than this. This wasn't bad but i really want to see what else they cam do. Maybe use a siamese dream like production. That could help bury Josh's vocals while still letting him push and express like Billy corgan did.

I once had a nightmare I was stuck in a music festival under a giant tree stump listening to Greta Van Fleet.

Can't wait to drop my own list of bangers in the honorable genre of "VAGUELY PSYCHEDELIC HARD ROCK".

My first thought checking out a few of the tracks was that the reverb was really distracting. They didnt implement it to make the vocal sit in the mix or for subtle character, they just cranked it until it sounded like he was in a bathroom yelling and they left it that way.

I was a fan of GVF, but then I actually started listening to Led Zeppelin. Can't say I really miss GVF.

I personally adore GVF but it was interesting to hear someone else's opinions on it where they actually give detailed reasons rather than "wahh they sound like Led Zeppelin".

Would love a review of Pearl Earl - 'It's Dread' ~!! They came to my city a few weeks ago and the little tiny set they did at a hole in wall club was... fantastic. Plus the records got cool album art.

As someone who most of the times listened to the music based on the quality or how interesting, or just how cool a record cover was, I hate how lately some bands with a large history of great covers (Foo Fighters, The Mars Volta [now GVF, also]) are choosing this minimalism for their latest records... btw well deserved 3/10 lol

i think his vocals sit within the mix nicely to take a little away from the bombast, but it can be further tweaked. production is def tinny.

I typically almost always agree with the Melon, but I just can't understand his dislike of GVF. I think they are great. They have their obvious influences, but I feel like they are unique and really fleshing out their sound. Give them time, and they'll make something great.

The intro to "Fate of the Faithful" sounds like "Joy to the World" by Three Dog Night.

Extremely dissapointed since it's a Dave Cobb produced record. I'm wondering if all the effects and noise were to hide the deficiencies of the playing.

The album was recorded live, so that's where the mix comes from, even with the solid engineer they had. I stopped my cursory listen through the album after the first 15 seconds of "Sacred The Thread" tried to be a boneless "When the Levee Breaks"

I have never understood the popularity of this band. The Zeppelin comparisons are absurd. And that kid in the sandals and petal pushers is the worst rock singer that I've ever heard.

I agree that while Greta Van Fleet is suffering from the "aesthetic band" issue sound-wise they are original lyrically & while Josh's vocal isn't for eveyone you can at least admire his talent. I've been a fan since from the fires & I consider it their first album. Peacful army was okay & garden's gate had it's moments but I agree now with this album that they are just doing the aesthetic thing of "okay we get it. It's 70's rock." I like how you pointed out the Aerosmith & Rush comparissions & when I heard it on the album I thought like you close but no cigar. I really hope that GVF tries to take a break recollect & change their sound on the next album. Like if this is their Zepplin 3 then lets fucking pray that their next album is like Zepplin IV. Yet there is nothing wrong with aesthetic bands. Just look at Beach House one could say they sound the same on all their albums, and tbf they do, but they do bring something different everytime to the table. GVF is trying but I don't think they've found it yet. I still have faith. I hated the track in the middle blues or whatver it is. Other than that I thought the album was decent.

As someone who lives a stone's throw away from Frankenmuth, from where the band originated, I think it's great that they made it big, although, I wish they had their own unique sound instead of being a throwback rehash of the 70's. Just my $.02.

I was waiting so long to see Starthony Chasetanos take on this! Love the band, but it took a solid 2 days on repeat to sink in for me

Totally agree with Melonhead Best album was actually their EP 😂 Ever since then the quality and writing has been dreadful Few thoughts: 1. Incredible band live (as musicians skills are off the charts) 2. They need to hire someone to write their lyrics. This latest album looks like someone received a rhyming dictionary for Christmas 😂 3. The production is so bad. I’m very disappointed as I love their new producer Dave Cobb so I’m not sure what happened here 4. It’s the same sound over and over again. No dynamics, need a new singer. The over the top vocals, once a cool party trick is now so stale. 5. I’m hoping that the bass player and drummer pull away. Bass player is the real talent. Reminds me of Rob Deleo from Stone Temple Pilots Overall they are gonna sell always. Good looking band, great live, dreadful albums though. Reminds me of late 90’s boy bands. A lot of people like myself who are 30 and younger will gravitate because they sound like our heroes of the past. Then you have the nostalgic group who are much older for the same thing. But in reality they are becoming quite laughable. My two cents. Obviously they won’t care about critics because they amount of money they are making and signed to a major label, who cares at that point. It just doesn’t take away from the fact that they are getting worse and worse with every release

This sounds so bad because the audio has been massively compressed for its digital master. It's possibly a new low for the 'loudness wars' and rivals previous infamous titles like 'Death Magnetic' and 'Californication'. On my upper mid-range system it's painful to listen to 😵‍💫. The LP version, however, appears to have used a much more dynamic and balanced master, thankfully.

At least they’re starting to develop their own sound. They don’t sound like a complete rip off of System of a Down anymore.

Their last album imo, is their best. I really appreciate the ambitious quality they brought to the table. I think this one follows down the same path but plays it a bit more safe & less ambitiously. A solid second best for me. Anthem of the Peaceful Army will always be my least favorite. Felt like a disappointment after listening to From the Fires.

The weird production must be their attempt at making a "different sound", in order to counter the valid criticism of how their music sounds the same. It's sad. With the years these guys have put into their craft, you know they have to be solid songwriters and performers but their reference pool for music is just too shallow for them to find any muses past their father's record collection.

This is laughable. Dudes mad he’s bald. Mad he was never good enough to play on a record. And mad he ended up having to critique albums vs make them. I give this channel a 2 out of 10

Yeah, I've been a huge fan of the band for years, but even I can say I was disappointed with the album. And it's a pretty big consensus among the fans the production was handled very poorly, and it's hard to listen to. That said, I recently saw their tour opener in Nashville, and I can say that I appreciate the album way more now. Even if you're not sold on GVF, I'd recommend you check out some of their live material.

They should do a drake feature

I remember liking the opening riff of The Falling Sky and even jamming a bit during the verse. The the chorus hit, and the guy just starts shrieking. Like... what? I also feel like the production did these guys no favors. I think they're talented, but I just can't hear it on this album for all the reverb and odd mixing choices.

I’m blown away by this guy’s take. Did we listen to the same band? I’m ngl ‘Starcatcher’ isn’t near as good as ‘The Battle at Garden’s Gate’, but it’s hard to top that album. I can’t wait to see them live again
