Rock n roll can’t be rock with old and original sounds and influences because that’s what Rock is, But if you don’t have any new flavors your only gonna appeal to modern day kids that like rock and boomers. It’s kinda like you can’t make a movie remake without original components, but you need to add new ones or else you’d just be watching a newer version of the original. That’s exactly what Greta is, watching a new version of zeppelin which is kinda boring. I won’t deny tho that the kid has a really good voice just not an original one.

If you want a pure band, check out Swervedriver. These guys are just pantomiming, they basically seem like a technically talented and well-practiced high-school cover band, there’s a difference between having influences and not having one shred of individuality. There are bands with John Bonham-esque drummers, or singers similar to Zeppelin, these guys it’s the whole thing down to the clothes they wear on stage, it’s uninspiring, boring, derivative. There are tons of other bands whose sound harkens back to classic hard rock but they still have their own thing going like Fu Manchu

Every year around this time I come back and revisit this video. It was my intro to GVF and I've been a huge fan every since. I was just listening and thinking the same thing, how much Josh's voice has improved over the past 5 years. He's had to make a lot of sacrifices to get there, but it's worth it. He will go down as having one of the most iconic voices in the history of Rock N Roll.

The title is "Mainstream rock sucked in 2018" and used Imagine Dragons and Greta Van Fleet as 2 of several examples as to why it sucked. The Greta Van Fleet attack in the article was about them being a copycat band of Led Zeppelin. It is not just rock and metal fans that are critical of this band but professional music critics from a music magazine as well. The sad thing is Greta Van Fleet will probably win 1 or 2 Grammy awards in February. Rolling Stone Magazine should do a "why the Grammys suck". The Grammys have been much more of a popularity awards contest rather than being based on the best talent for several decades.

One drink of alcohol, crying, stress etc all play into how your vocal chords perform that night. Even Freddie mercury had his bad days and hes literally the king. That is one thing you learn very quickly is how fast something can effect your vocal chords even though you sounded absolutely amazing the night before.

Go check out the Stoned Meadow of Doom channel. There are literally dozens of bands that have been making great 70's influenced hard rock albums for decades but get no press.

Wolfmother sounded Zeppeliny, but not as close as these dudes. They crafted their own unique style and it made them memorable. Anytime anyone hears The Joker, Woman, or Unicorn they know exactly who it is. If you played some Zep and then some Fleet for someone who hadn't heard either, they probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Agreed that the world needs this. But music is music, no matter if it is with autotune and pre recorded sounds. Open your mind, and you will find that with the autotune and a pc producction you can make things that with instruments or real tone of voice is imposible. I love rock jazz blues funk, but i also love electronic music, pop and rap. Its not a war, music is to express vibes and energy.

SNL's sound mix has always been abysmal when it comes to musical guests with few exceptions. I wouldn't blame their performance cause Greta Van Fleet usually perform very well.

sure they play their own instruments (well? well... the rhythm section here is not that tight) but i'm pretty sure the formula for the songs and sound was ready by about 1972. i'll tell you what the problem is: in itself, playing your own instruments just doesn't constitute merit, it's not what separates good music from bad, worthy art from cynical cash-grab. these guys are getting attention because they are very specifically, very safely exploiting the nostalgia of people who got stuck with a stale af rockist attitude and are living in the past, people who like to say things like "hurr durr i prefer real music to auto-tuned pop stars." (if you don't understand why that is a ridiculous and shallow mindset i can't help you.) there are hundreds of exciting, own-song-writing and own-instrument-playing artists out there who aren't cracking the charts because they're doing something a bit more nuanced than Zeppelin pastiche that appeals directly to baby boomers' calcified tastes, and it's a ridiculous argument that people shouldn't criticize Greta Van Fleet just because it isn't EDM or whatever. saying this as a huge fan of Led Zeppelin and rock music in general, this is the opposite of what rock today should be.

In Rush's defence, they had their own sound. They may have borrowed elements from Zep but the had their own unique quarks and mannerisms. GVF, on the other hand, clearly don't. The signer even tries to copy Robert's hand gesture. There's nothing wrong with making a Zep tribute band, it's just weird that GVF isn't explicit about it. They're trying to pass for originals.

@@keithremedy The Stairway lawsuit was bullshit in my opinion, but that does not take away from the fact that they literally sampled and stole material for some of their biggest songs, including some lyrics on Whole Lotta Love. Led Zeppelin is great and all, but nobody needs to get all high and mighty about GVF occasionally sounding somewhat like Zeppelin when Zeppelin literally stole material and nobody cares. GVF writes all their own stuff, so I really don't care myself if they sound vaguely similar. Hell, emulating another artist that well in your own material is perhaps the most difficult thing one could do in music. Sure, From The Fires had a few very Zeppelin-esque tracks, but on top of that Anthem Of The Peaceful Army sounds nothing like Zeppelin at all. And to be honest, I think in his upper register Josh sounds more like Janis Joplin than Robert Plant. It's largely just his lower register that really shares that similarity, especially on tracks like Safari Song.

People accused Rush of sounding like Zeppelin too. Gene Simmons called them Canadian Zeppelin way back in the mid 70s. And they kept on rocking for 42 years, sold millions upon millions of records, sold out arenas all over the world, and are now in Hall of Fame. Not a bad career, eh?

Zeppelin ended way too early. We should appreciate that these gents have that real raw sound. I enjoy them. The power in the vocals gives me chills. It will never be zepp but im sure the boys would give them the nodd.

Led Zeppelin laugh's at them I seen a interview with Robert plant and he just Snickers because Zeppelin did things no other band could do Jimmy page and John Paul Jones did things so other bands couldn't copy them The rain song has the guitar tuned for a tuning that takes a month to tune to play it if you play by ear. If you listen to heart breaker The riff in the beginning is the bass Jimmy accents it but the heavy riff everyone thinks it's the guitar and if you listen to Bono he's always a step ahead of Jimmy he doesn't follow the Bass like other bands and Greta van fleet is a excellent band with original music just because the singer has high range doesn't mean they are coping zep no one will ever be able to sound like Zeppelin
