Fairy the rescue greyhound is ecstatic to be let off the lead in a fenced country park and experiences complete freedom in the woods and open fields. Watch Fairy’s eye view on go pro footage using dog camera harness. Run through the woods with Fairy as she jumps ditches and logs as she chases squirrels 🐿️
Did Fairy come back? Was she fast enough to catch a squirrel?

I’m glad she’s wearing a coat, I understand greyhound skin is very thin. Her joy is palpable.

I love that you allow your greyhound to experience the joy of freedom. I'm sure there are ppl who had a hissy fit, but done carefully in a secure area it's worth it. Love watching your escapades.

My dog chased everything when he he was younger. He's heading toward 18 yrs old now & mostly likes to nap. In summer he likes to nap on the porch, wait for treats, or wait for mealtime & that's it. 😄😊❤✌✌

Ned, our Jack Russell never used to listen to us when he was on the hunt for rabbits. We had extra tags on him that jingled so we could hear where he was running. Just like Fairy he would come back eventually, in fact I think Fairy is very well behaved. You are going to be extra fit with her around and at least you don’t have to bring home flea bitten rabbits that the dog won’t let go of🤣🤣. Love the woods in the UK, we don’t have those sort of hedged and fenced woods here in Australia. Our current Jack Russell cross Molly liked Fairy’s squeaky toy and went and looked for hers after hearing Fairy squeaking.

I have a dog who gets very excited off leash too. And I’ve gotten very responsive recall because (I think) I only command her to return to me when it’s necessary. I use her name in recalling only when I really mean it. Otherwise I clap my hands. Two separate commands. Clapping means she only needs to check in, but not return and stop playing. She’s learned the difference. If I use her name, she comes immediately. Also, you may find a dog whistle helpful.

What fun to watch Fairy on her Great Squirrel Hunt! What do you think she'd do if she actually caught one? Fairy:"Mmm, thanks for the chicken, mum, tastes just like squirrel. What does squirrel tast like? I think I recall reading somewhere that the ancient greyhounds hunted with another type of dog that actually went in for the kill after the grey had taken the prey down---or was it the human hunter who came to the kill at the end? Maybe both? My grey would chase my smaller dog & just run right over him when she caught him---he'd turn a couple of somersaults then take right off after her---running over her prey was her M.O. Makes sense that the grey wouldn't do battle with the animal, they've got no protection against teeth & claws w/ their short coats, thin skin, lack of fat. So glad to see Fairy being such a good girl that you can trust her off leash! As always, thanks for sharing!

Aww, pretty in pink (of COURSE fairies wear pink!). Such a JOY, to see her having so much fun. You're lucky she doesn't have long, thick fur - that'd be quite a cleaning job with my guy (long, triple-coat) - mud, burrs, etc. She sure crashes afterwards - ZONK! Nice & relaxing for the humans then, too. Very much enjoy your vids - THANKS for sharing your Fairy adventures with us! Cheers from Canada!

That was amazing to see Fairy living her dream. Chasing Squirrels and all the scents of nature. You give her the best life ever . Her recall is so good even though it's bribery with chicken but whatever works and it is early day's so yuy are doing s marvellous job. I wish other GH owners would realize, that even they can be trained to come back. Even better than some of the other Hunting breeds, like Spaniel's once they're focused on nesting Birds. They go deaf on you😆. Well done to you. 🖐️ 😍🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

once my dog is home after (unauthorised) hunting, he does not know what to do with himself and keeps running through the house. perhaps his paws are injured then. i always wash his paws after hunting and that seems to help a bit, but just 5% or so. once i tell him to lay on my bed he keeps kinda calm

Adorable - such a good girl. Love your videos - you’re doing a wonderful job with Fairy - she’s so lucky that you’re her mum! As a trainer, may I make a suggestion (I know that’s annoying). When giving commands, it’s often more effective to use more authority and confidence in your voice (lower range of your voice, avoiding your voice going up at the end of your command like a question mark). Think speaking with a period rather than a question mark. And not like you’re yelling at her either (no exclamation point unless you’re praising her or correcting her). Hope that makes sense. As the pack leader, using a more commanding, confident voice leads to more respect from your pack. Better to leave the high pitched vocals for praise, where it’s a very effective tool.

You're doing a great job. Just the fact that you let her off lead and she responds to your command's is brilliant. Even GH can be trained to recall command's so it's so sad that most owner's will not trust them to return with recall. They were bred to hunt and chase and like any Dog, they love to run free. The UK has so much rural space and great beaches and even Cities here, have huge natural Parks. My GH was never on a lead. He always responded to my command's. Well done you, for trusting yourself so Fairy trusts you. It works brilliantly. 😍💖🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾@@Fairythegreyhound

I always enjoy seeing dogs having fun. Do consider, though, that if she got on something other than a squirrel (like a deer, for example), she might chase it for quite a long distance, and she might even CATCH IT, and bite and kill it. Here in New England, US, we have to worry about porcupines. They will actually try to motivate a dog to "bite them," and get a face full of quills for the trouble. On youtube there are now many videos of US hunters using "lurchers" to catch and kill coyotes -- not very pleasant to watch.
@Fairythegreyhound
@Fairythegreyhound 5 месяцев назад
I wouldn’t let her off anywhere where there were deer or sheep. This country park is fenced and secure so there would be no deer able to get inside it and Fairy would not be able to get out. I choose very carefully where I let her off
@GetMeThere1
@GetMeThere1 5 месяцев назад
@@Fairythegreyhound I was sure you're very careful. I responded based on seeing the other videos, and how it IS possible for greyhounds to run faster than prey, and that they ARE bred to kill what they catch. I think many people might not be clear on that. You have a WONDERFUL dog, and I wish you the best of luck with her.

@@Fairythegreyhound I do watch now and again a lady dog trainer . On a long lunge rein she let the beagle dog sniff ,then threw some treats on the ground and told the dog to search . Or have a fluffy thing at the end of a line and get her to chase it…. My boxer dog had a poor recall. Took him fora walk in a park off lead .ran straight to a football game and took their ball. Me being a chicken I hid the lead and carried walking…. No amount of recall or treats would have worked. Me walking away did.
