I recently said to goodbye to my 13.5 year old chihuahua, Jack. The script for this meditation was written months ago as he slept in his bag by my feet as we traveled on an Amtrak train along the Hudson River. Occasionally anticipatory grief would take me out of the present moment, as if I was I trying to prepare for the inevitable loss one day. Now he is no longer here, I went back and added to this meditation, recognizing the things that were left out. I am so looking forward to listening to this. My heart has been in pieces for nearly ten months after saying my last goodbye to my beloved cat Odin. Michelle, I am very sorry to hear about your loss. But never fear, you are not alone. I promise you, your precious dog will remain in your heart. I have had no recent pet losses myself, thankfully. But in 2020, I had to put down my dog April. She is in our hearts now. Perhaps I will come to this video for future preference, if need be.

I am eagerly awaiting this one. I have been thinking recently about all the dogs and horses who have blessed me over the years, and I want to believe that someday we will reconnect. Omg you released this the same day I lost my Duke one year ago. I honor you dear friend. You bless me with so much relief with what you share. My orchid bloomed for the first time today since Duke passed. And now this, Michelle, you’re a gorgeous soul, to gift me this to listen to as I try to sleep tonight.

@MichellesMeditationSanctuary michelle, did you call your kitty Lowenstein after Barbra Streisand's character in "The Prince of Tides"? If not, and if you haven't seen it, you might find it interesting hearing the name mentioned in the film a lot. Amazing film and absolutely beautiful soundtrack.

That soundtrack was what I used to fall asleep much of my childhood. Yes. She was named after that character- the author of the book, Pat Conroy, was a loving mentor of mine. And when I was 18 I worked at Barwood Films.

Thanks for sharing this Michelle. It's been three weeks since I said goodbye to my cat, Boo. I'm still getting used to not having her around. Sometimes I'll see something out of the corner of my eye or hear something and for just moment I'll think it's her. I miss Boo a lot, but it was nice to take sometime and picture her as a young cat again and be able to pet her soft fur. Thanks!

I’m away from home right now, I get a call that my dog is down, she will need to be put to sleep tomorrow. I won’t be there, my heart is broken, no sleep tonight, I’m hurting really bad, I still have 3 more to go through this with in the future, I will have no more pets after I lose them all, it hurts too much. 😔 so sorry for your loss and every pet owner, there are no words for this kind of grief.

There truly are no words. I’m so sorry- it truly is unimaginable the amount of feelings that come with the connections we have with our pets. I’ll never be the same, but with time I’m awash with the best memories. And those are worth the inevitable goodbye. My heart goes out to you both.

All my dogs have this aroma that smells like frito corn chips. It’s caused by yeast in their ears and paw pads. So it’s not just one that evokes this warm scent but all. There’s lots of oxytocin but I get that listening to your meditations too so there’s some other other worldly connection to canines. I have a bunch of poems regarding loss and grief of a loved dog was going to type one out but was too overwhelmed. It’s ok to cry but I’m one who does the ugly weepy thing. Then I get a headache and have sinus issues for hours so I try and stifle it. I never get over grief I just live with it. I couldn’t have loved any one of my dogs more and none were my favorite. I feel compelled to get another dog because it’s paying forward my love from the last. None replaces the past but allows the river of my love to keep flowing. If I don’t let it flow I’m consumed with it. Like being terminally emotionally constipated. My pets are my north star. It’s reciprocated in their each own way and it’s what has made my life better

@larrymarcus3176 it's so true that we never get over the grief entirely-- it's been a reminder to me of things I need to get done in my own life as I am reminded of how precious time is. I've definitely had the Frito smell but once-- the old dog breath smell was the worse as I waited for nearly two years during the pandemic to schedule a dental visit! It's good to know when to balance the tears... my eyes got quite sore. And I know if Jack were here he would be chucking a ball or his baby sock at me to play with him and be distracted from the sadness. It's also how I knew we were nearing the end... as he wasn't even mentally there enough to know I was crying. I look forward to pouring that love into a new puppy when I am ready again. I'm a lot more confident now that I can provide a great life than I was in my 20s when Jack arrived.

😭💔I got my 9 month old iggy puppy neutered and he died shortly after the surgery.💔😭 Just happened 3 days ago. I can’t believe he is gone. He was just a baby.
