The "Crazy Babysitter Twins" are real life twins and relatives of Robert Rodriguez. They also appeared in "Machete' and 'Machete Kills' ('Machete' started out as just a faux trailer but was later made into a full length film.)

"Try not to shoot yourselves! Don't shoot each other! And especially don't shoot me!" cutting to the BBQ shack on fire and Michael Biehn having been shot by Tom Savini is a perfect editing joke.

Oh, man - I saw the Planet Terror/Death Proof double feature when if first ran in theaters...Along with the faux movie trailers and the theater announcements, it all added up to an amazing theater experience! For those few hours sitting in the dark theater it really felt as if I'd been transported back to a theater in the 1970's. I can't say the two movies are among my all-time favorite movies (though I did enjoy both of them) but the overall experience was easily one of my all-time most memorable!

Rose McGowan also sang a song in an episode of Charmed (Sense and Sense Ability; she did a cover of the song Fever; the crone in the episode, who stole their senses, imitated her voice & sang the lullaby Hush Little Baby to Wyatt).

As a kid in the 70's, my friends and I would go see these grindhouse, cult, horror, Godzilla films and all manner of low budget flicks at the theater. They would be Double Features and sometimes even Triple Features.

Every collaboration between Tarantino and Rodriguez is worth watching. As you mentioned, Sin City, Four Rooms, Desperado. Rodriguez even had a hand in the music for Kill Bill 2. 😎

The mock trailers "Machete" and "Hobo With a Shotgun" were made into actual movies! They're both worth checking out if you're ever in the mood. Sadly, "Werewof Women of the SS" starring Nicolas Cage as Fu Manchu never got made into a movie.

When Robert Rodriquez, Danny Trejo and Michelle Rodriguez were promoting "Machete" at San Diego Comic Con they made a personal appearance at a parking lot the studio rented outside of the San Diego Convention Center. Danny Trejo and Michelle Rodriguez were being interviewed in costume sitting a lowrider convertible inside the cordoned off parking lot while Robert Rodriguez was up at the front of the lot in a taco truck serving "street tacos" to fans in person. I got a chicken taco (the options were chicken or vegetarian), and as he handed it to me, I gushed "I love your movies!" He smiled and thanked me, so I was really happy. It was a good taco too.

Robert Rodriguez absolutely has John Carpenter as a role model and as the career he wanted. There's an interview between them on RU-vid.

John Carpenter was originally asked to provide music for Grindhouse, but eventually Robert Rodriguez ended up scoring the film himself. On a more serious note, the interaction between Rose McGowan and Tarantino's creep soldier was a not-so-subtle dig at Harvey Weinstein, who had "allegedly" assaulted and black-listed McGowan previously.

Ooh. John Carpenter would have been fire on the music for Grindhouse. Give some of that synth he likes? Regardless. Grindhouse had a really dope soundtrack in both movies...

Freggie would go on to say that while helping direct the zombies that Tarantino bit her during a rehearsal, because of course he did. Rose herself talked about that Tarantino would not stop telling people that he used to masturbate to her feet in Jawbreaker, specifically buying the laser disc version to do it in higher definition. Which is why the only thing about of him that I like is his movies.

The Girl in the Road is FERGIE from "the Black Eyed Peas". The Deputy with the Mustache was the LEGENDARY Tom Savini... The Greatest Horror Special Effects/Makeup Artiat/Prop Master in Cinematic History! The Sherriff should look Familiar as well... He was "Reese" in Terminator and "Hicks" in Aliens! When the Sherriff tells everyone to hand their guns to Wray (and he does the gun flips), Michael Beihn did the same thing in "Tombstone" (a Great Western).

This was an "Homage" to the Low budget "Splatter" Movies they had at Drive-ins during the 60's/70's... Although Different "Scripts", they used the same Supporting Actors and Characters from each movie, slightly changing their Roles as needed. The Movies really weren't about the Dialogue or Characters, it was about the Explosions and Splatter! The Music Sounds Familiar because John Carpenter did alot of his own Soundtracks!

I don't remember this movie as well as Deathproof, little bits mostly, 15:00 I definitely didn't remember that lol, boy I hate it haha. It was nice to see Michael Beihn in this (Hicks from Aliens). The infected monsters remind me of the Toxic Waste guy in the first Robocop movie a lot. 24:59 I love how down Quentin is to die in terrible ways in movies lol. I love Robert Rodiguez's choice of music just like I love Quentin's, it's always perfect for the scene and the old school way it's stylized, it's very 50's B movie in plot which is so much fun.

The shot of Dakota’s son at the end was a kind of meta-reference. Rodriguez didn’t want his son to know that he died half way through the movie, so they shot pickups where he’s still crawling around during the action. So, there is a cut out there where he doesn’t die.

19:52 - The "Missing Reel" - so, apparently back in the day of actual grindhouse theaters, the reels of film would go from theater to theater, picking up scratches and dirt along the way. And often reels of film would go missing or parts would be cut out by projectionists (usually the steamy scenes) for their personal collections.

A fan of Jeff Fahey from LOST? Then you need to check him out in the horror flick, BODY PARTS (1991). And since we're on the topic, check out the "killer hand" flick, THE HAND (1981), and the horror comedy, IDLE HANDS (1999), another "killer hand" film. BODY PARTS isn't about "killer disembodied hands" though.

"Two against the world... even odds, on Planet Terror." Getting to see the Grindhouse double feature in theaters was such a good time with friends. - We brought our own booze and hot wings in with us. I'm biased; longtime fan of Robert Rodriguez so his action gorefest edges out Tarantino's decidedly more dedicated revenge slasher outing. Both films are very much exploitation flicks, so naturally there was bound to be unpleasantness against women, children and animals (the fact that Tarantino himself is proudly touted as 'Rapist Number Two' tells you exactly what you're getting into). Thankfully it's delivered here with the usual stylistic aplomb and smart edge that only a Robert Rodriguez action outing can deliver. Oh, and it is absolutely a love letter to John Carpenter. Everything from the score, the cinematography, the color grading, even direct shots from some of his most treasured horror films are graciously dedicated to him, and Rodriguez himself praises the man in his director's commentary. Well this has been a wonderful surprise this day. Imagine my joy, getting called into work and finding out not only was there one epic movie reaction with you up to enjoy ("Mad Max: Fury Road"), but another in the recommended list with "Planet Terror." And then triple that joy when I learned you were doing both "Grindhouse" movies back to back. ^ _ ^ If this isn't proof there can never be too much Angel Groves, I don't know what is.

Grindhouse: Planet Terror (2007) Hello Angelita. I made you a list of facts. I put it in my jacket so I could give you these facts but then I lost the jacket. I looked for it for two weeks... • The appearance of Bruce Willis in a minor role is a subtle nod to the old marketing trick often employed by grindhouse and modern DTV filmmakers. They would contract a big-name celebrity to appear in the movie for one day, usually for a few frontal shots, while the rest of the scenes were done with a body double filmed from the back. A picture of the big star would then be placed prominently on the movie's poster to boost sales. If you pay attention to all of Bruce Willis' scenes, he's never really in frame with any of the other actors, implying that all of his scenes were shot separately on one day. • I'm glad that you liked the role of Dakota by Marley Shelton, Rodriguez specifically wrote the part for her after working with her in Sin City. • Josh Brolin wanted to audition for No Country for Old Men but the Cohen brothers refused to give him an audition, so, Brolin went to Robert Rodriguez to help him film an audition tape and Brolin got one filmed by Rodriguez, directed by Tarantino with Marley Shelton co-starring. The rest is history. • As is tradition with his films, Rodriguez wrote, edited, directed, and did the music as well. His band, Chingon has been used in many of his films including the Mariachi Trilogy, the Machete films, and From Dusk til Dawn. • Rodriguez had the idea for Planet Terror while shooting The Faculty (1998) as he had accurately predicted the resurgence of Zombie films and hit some writer's block after 30 pages and finished the story years later as the Zombie crazed was already in full swing. • The Special thanks to John Carpenter was about snippets of his soundtrack of Escape from New York being used in the film. Carpenter was originally asked to score the film but due to other commitments, relegated duties to Rodriguez. The soundtracks for Escape from New York and the Thing were frequently played on set to help set the tone. • While most directors have a stable of frequent collaborators, Rodriguez takes it a step further by using both his actual real estate agent (club owner Skip) and personal physician (Dr. Felix) as supporting cast. Also Dakota's son Tony is played by his son, Rebel, and the crazy Babysitter twins are his nieces, Elektra and Elise. The post-credits scene with Tony on the beach was just something Rodriguez wanted for himself. • Rodriguez and McGowan were dating during filming and engaged during the film's release. They broke up a year later. There's a lot more to the story of Rose McGowan and her feelings on the film but that's a list in and of itself. • Even though it was continuously promoted as a double feature, people who weren't familiar with the concept were trying to leave the theater as the credits started running. Theaters would put signs up in the hallways to remind people that it was a double feature and play more fake trailers to keep people in their seats. The idea of Grindhouse cinema revolved around one principle: Make the movies that no one would. As easily as you could argue about many films falling into the same category as exploitation films, Grindhouse films were also often one of the few sub-genres to be diverse with their leads and address topics that weren't discussed. That's not to say they were all automatically winners. One of the drawbacks of a Grindhouse film is the fact that it was often done for cheap, which means that they were also unintentionally hilarious more often than they were serious. But at the same time, nothing beats the idea of a Saturday night at the drive-in, watching 2 cheesy films and getting your money's worth. Congratulations on the big move and I know you're going to do great things because like El Wray: I do believe in you and always have. I believe you could be better. You deserve better, maybe even better than me. Right now, I need you to become who you were meant to be. So stand, Angelita.

The was a time in movies, especially horror, it was pretty common to just hand a gun to a kid. Naturally, with no training, no practice, little Johnnie would be a crack shot. And before the end of the movie, he would save the day by shooting someone. No consequences. I grew up around guns, and I hate this cliche. I'm glad it's dead. So when I say that's my favorite part of the movie, it's not because I want kids do die. It's because this is what would most likely happened if you just handed a 6yo a loaded pistol and then left them unsupervised. And givin the MPAA, it took guts for Rodriguez to put that into the movie. It also took guts to not warn his mother that her grandchild wasn't going to survive the movie. 😮🤣
