Because the American makers of this video wanted the Gripen to look more stealthy I guess. They seem to find it difficult to accept after the creation of F22 and F35 there is still a market for fighters like Gripen, Eurofighter and even the F16.

E fora que mesmo os americanos estão optando pelos modelos mais recentes dos F-15 de F-16 e este útimo pode evoluir pro F-36 Kingsnake baseado no F-16 XL. Assim como provisóriamente os Sul Coreanos estão optando pelo KAI KF 21 como avião de ataque multirole. Que é uma aeronave de geração 4.5 visualmente parecido com o F35 mas não é Stealth. Mas, com sistemas de camuflagem eletrônica tb presentes do F35 e Gripen E.

O Gripen e o F-16 são sem dúvida alguma caças excelentes. Os melhores que existem? Jamais, mas como o Weapon Detective disse, Sukhoi-35, Typhoon, F-15 e F-35 são caças para países que querem disputar alguma "liderança" política, o Gripen é um caça para quem quer um avião de caça.

@@phillipbanes5484 Those figures are very well documented, and usually the contracts is a 100% exchange of value, and is at fixed price including spares and maintenance. The F35s price was set excluding the engine and its cost. Janes has a Dollar per flying hour, where the SAAB is substantial lower than the rest of modern jets. The SAAB is built for easy maintenance in the field and at base. Most maintenance is done by conscripts. It is built modular so for a lot of systems, just change the module and put in the replacement. And its software has open architecture so the customer easily could add new weapon system. Look at Brazil they are now fielding their first set of Gripen E/F. US government is always pushing US aircraft, even use dirty tricks to do it, without that a lot more countries would have Gripen. The info is out there, just look for it.

@@phillipbanes5484 If you review the evidence of close in confrontations, the Gripen came out ahead of both. In the real world, this would never happen and is irrelevant. Both Stealth aircraft fight from beyond visual range, and are optimised for that flight envelope. The Gripen has no chance in that scenario and is optimised for quick and close in knife fights. They aren't equal in a fight by any means. I was not intending to suggest the Gripen was superior, simply different. The USAF have repeatedly shown that all else being equal, it is the pilot's training which makes for the win. You and I know who has the best training.

Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Each Gripen generation comes in two versions, the normal single seater and the two seater. So, the really old Gripen was A/B (A=single seat) The current on operation is C/D. The brand new just getting into air forces for testing and training is E. Will likely soon be in full military operation ready for real missions. The two seater variant F is not yet ready, but has been ordered by Brazil.

According to google, Gripen 1st flight was in 1988 and Eurofighter was in 1994... But, yeah, they got some characteristics like the cannards and delta wings in common.

I do agree to would be cool, but not likely that it would happen. It is quite a lot different from the aircrafts that Ukraine has, so it would require significant retraining of pilots. On the plus side is that Gripen aircrafts was designed to beat the best Russian fighter jets.

The total production of Gripen E is about 10 aircraft, as it is the latest version, so zero chance of getting 60 . The E version is not fully commissioned in Sweden while they evolve tactics and integration. But perhaps C version could be procured?
