GROM MST4 Bluetooth iPhone Kit Adapter Volvo S40 V50 C30 2009 2010 2011 2012 Stereo Removal Guide 

I bought the GROM-MST4 for my Volvo S40 with a busted 6 disc changer. Since Volvo's 6 disc cd players are very unreliable (I've had 2 in my S40 within a year) this is an excellent solution. The Grom unit is reasonably easy to fit my only stumbling bloke was the power and ground wiring but after some research online it turned out to be relatively simple. So for a 54 plate S40 with high performance audio the wiring is.. from the back of the 6 disc changer you have a fibre optic and power connector Orange/Yellow wire is 12v accessory/switched + and the ground (-) wire is Black/Blue. If you are unsure I would test the wiring first to make sure you have the right ones, these where the right ones for my car but might not be for yours.

I have a 2005 mod s40 with high performance. it is never delivered from Volvo with aux, have you tried on older cars than 2007 mod? Aux came first at the 2007 mod with the two greatest sterio mod. car of the video is a 2007 mod or later.

What is exactly the difference between the 6cd kit and the 1cd kit? Can the 6cd kit be used in a 1cd audio system in a certain way? Maybe by changing a specific cable?

The wires are a totally different colour on my 2005 Volve S40 with single CD player. I can't figure out which wire to use.

Just installed an MST4 in my 2005 S40 Six CD changer by following this video to the letter (or should that be to the second?). You can do the install without removing the waterfall as in this video, however, allow yourself plenty of time as it's quite fiddly but with patience you will get there. Some notes from my experience. 1. Before you start doing anything, remove all of your CDs from the CD changer. You can't do this after the install. 2. When you pop out the ICU don't be surprised to find a grey sea of cables wrapped in Volvo's finest foam tape. You can remove the connector that connects to the Waterfall just to move that strand out of the way and give yourself more room. To find the strand you are looking feel to the back left of the CD player, grasp that bundle gently and trace towards the front of the dash. One you are sure you have the right one, you'll have to carefully remove the foam tape around the wires (I used the scissors from a pen knife really carefully) in order to expose the wires and fit the posi taps. Other than that it was relatively straight forward. One other note if you have the Bluetooth kit and pair your phone, then un pair it and try to pair it again the phone may say "Incorrect PIN." In this case turn your phone fully off (power down) then go through the procedure to reset devices on the Grom. Then power on the phone and it'll connect this time. This is described in the manual but I faffed around for a while before I realised I had to power down the phone. The Grom seems better than a Bluepower unit as you can connect any phone or table to it with the latest OS and just work from there. Bluepower already looks a bit dated.

I have a 2005 with the 6 cd changer however the changer has broken - displays ‘deck error’. Will this unit replace that, removing the error as well as adding Bluetooth, if so it’s killing two birds with one stone.

I am in the process of installing the MST4 on my 2005 s40 today. Everything went according to plan with the fiber optics. The one snag I have hit is that the electrical wire bundling as shown in this video is definitely different than what exists behind my radio. I have traced 2 bundles- one to the display unit and one to the "keyboard unit". There is a 3rd bundle that seems to be in the same place as the bundle in the video where I should find a red/yellow wire (the power) and a red/black wire (the ground). I cannot seem to trace where this bundle goes but I am assuming it goes to the CD player. I did identify a red/yellow wire but there is no corresponding red/black - only a solid black wire. Is it possible that these are the power and ground for the ptap? Why would my interior wires on my 6 CD unit be different than what is in the video? any help from grom or other grom users would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Will this work with a half-working CD player? I have a 2007 Volvo C30 and the CD player gives a "Deck Error" message when I try to eject a CD? There is actually a hack for me to eject CDs from the CD player by 1. Press eject button 2. Stick another CD in halfway 3. Wait a second and pull it back out. It will barf out the other CD enough for me to grab it. Let me know asap!!

The instructions regarding power are wrong.

Buyer beware, if for whatever reason your vehicle isn't compatible with the MST4, GROM will not refund you outside of 30 days. Prior to purchasing, they informed me that it should work in my 2012 MINI after dealer reprogramming. Turns out they were wrong and it isn't compatible at all (my car lacks the necessary optical connections) and since it's outside of 30 days they are offering me a pathetic $80 buyback for a $280 product :(
