Final and full review of the Grom VL2 LS430 unit. Waze, Google Maps, hands free audio navigation and phone calls for the 2001-2003 Lexus LS.
Make sure to buy the VL2 option. VL2 option is basically a tablet in the dashboard. You can install Gapps, log into your google account, and connect to your cell phone's hotspot, or any wifi. Then the Grom unit can run by itself in the dash.
Once you have Google Play store access then you can install any android app. You can watch youtube videos, hook up an OBD gauge app, the possibilities are endless. On the VLITE version you can only connect your phone to the GROM and use android auto fully through your phone. The Grom can't be used as a standalone unit.
Make sure to also buy the AUX AV Cable to install cameras

you can do a touchscreen calibration in the grom settings. after that the touch function will be much more accurate. I just installed VT2 for my LS430, a little bit cheaper.

Are you going to get the VL2 for your GX or the VLite? I only see myself using Android Auto / Carplay and none of the android things so was thinking about just getting the VLite VT2

Proabably the VL2 to stay consistent. It says the Lite is missing "Navigation: Google Maps, Waze, Sygic, others" so I don't know how that would work or look like with just phone linked to the Lite.

VL2 has a Android system built in. Whlie VT2 is purely carplay/android auto/bluetooth. @@LILEVO

@@LILEVO I think Waze would look similar if that how it looks with your iPhone/Android connected. The VL2 just lets you run Waze/Maps separately without a phone I believe. I'm also looking at putting in one of those Teyes units in but hate that you lose some of the physical AC controls.

Waze is linked to my phone/account with the VL2. All my reports show up in the phone app. I don't think you can do much of anything in VL2 without connecting your phone aside from the backup camera and generic apps in there. @@infinitepants314

heiio, i just install the vline2 in my 02 ls430 and having issue with google map in satellite mode nor is cannot answer phone calls . any though on that

But can you still play CDs?

Yes. Once connected to android auto just hit the disc button and your CDs will play. Not sure if possible on the lite, but works fine on the VL2. The disc button switches between streaming audio and the cd changer
