Review of the GROM Audio VLine VL2 (NIS9VL2) Interface on a 2011+ Infiniti M/Q70 (2011 M56x in this case).
This video was recorded after the unit had been updated to the 8.1 update. The initial unit shipped with Android 5.x.
** Correction: The unit does NOT have a SIM card slot, only microSD. It DOES have a USB slot where you can connect a USB Hotspot **

Thank you for the honest and to point review and feedback. I'll be ordering the V9 series this week. You've convinced me to make the plunge. 👍🏽 Doing my research, it seems the infotainment hardware in the 2011 Infiniti EX37 is the same as in my 2011 Nissan Skyline Crossover 370GT (JDM). We'll see.

Who installed this for you? If you installed, how easy or hard is it for a hands on type of person

Hello. You can find my install instructions on NICOClub.com. I documented the entire process. It's medium difficulty I'd say for someone who is somewhat familiar with DIY work. I do all of my own DIY so it wasn't difficult at all.

Dude thank you for the review, I have been waiting for ever to see a full clear review. Regarding the check engine code, what are you planning to do with it? I have the exact same issue. It is very expensive fix. The dealer told me it is not a big deal and it is usually happens to cars around this age. What do you think?

Glad you found the review useful! As for the car...I will eventually fork over the money to get it repaired properly, but for now I'm just timing my inspections around when the light is off and buying myself time hahaha.

FstLaneUkraine do you have any idea if it’ll affect the car? I can’t justify the price for a 2011 car.

@@ABDUALRHMANSA It may affect your gas mileage and such but it won't make your car not work generally speaking. If you live in a place without emissions inspections, then you could in theory drive on it for a while...but I'd do some research to be sure.

Hey does the bluetooth for this work any faster than the factory bluetooth at startup?? What I'm finding annoying is that my bluetooth takes FOREVER to connect to my note 8 when starting the car, like I hate pulling off with no music playing 😫😫😫🤣

Yeah I've had no issues. Have to keep in mind that in many cases, assuming you have an Infiniti M, the BT modules were designed in mid to late 2000's...and our phones (such as your Note 8) are from the late 2010's. I'm not sure of the exact tech in the Grom, but logic would dictate that the BT module in the Grom is MUCH newer and therefore will work much better (as I can confirm, I have no issues with BT on my Pixel 2XL and the Grom).

Do you always need to plug in your phone to get it to work, or is that only with iPhones?

If your phone has Hotspot you don't need to plug it in as all the apps can be natively installed. However for Android auto you do need to plug it in at this time. I heard they were working on wireless AA but hasn't happened yet.

Can you get Netflix to work with this device? Or any other video apps like that?

Those apps do work but last time I tried RU-vid TV and Plex, there was about a 1 second delay between video and audio. Haven't tried in a while though.

Are you happy with it? It seems like the Vline products have issues with freezing and no display where we have to reset the units. Does the wifi connection automatically connect to your phone upon start up?

Hi there. Yes, I'm happy with it. I did have those freezing/no display issues and had to unplug and re-plug it in, but that seems to have been fixed by a FW update 2-3 months ago. Been good since. Even before that, it was only like once every 6-7 weeks. As for WiFi, yes, it automatically connects to my house if I'm in my driveway or my phone if my hotspot is on. They now have true Android Auto so you don't need WiFi but can just plug in your phone and use Waze, Google Maps, Google Play Music, etc. via the phone/USB.

What check engine lights did it cause?

Hi James, just seeing this comment, apologies. The VLine unit will not cause any check engine lights. My CEL is due to a catalytic converter issue which was a problem long before I got my VL2. Thanks for watching!

I had previous experience removing my dash, but it took me about an hour all said and done. It's not a tough install if you follow my steps.

Wait so does this come with a new touch display or you use the same factory one? Also my 2013 g37 does not have navigation.... will this vl2 unit still work

This uses the OEM screen. As for G37, you'll need to ask GROM Audio. I'd imagine they support some years or packages.

Thanks for the video. I have a qx50 with NAV but I don't use Infiniti's navigation. I use google's "ok Google" command a lot. It makes my life much easier while driving. I ask it to navigate me to places, tell me if a store is open , to tell me the weather tomorrow etc. Can I do that with this system? I mean if I say " ok Google " will it start listening to my prompt?

I don't know if Okay Google (I don't use it even on my phone) will work...but I know there is a button on the interface for the mic which will then function the same way as a Google search. If you say an address it will find it and then hand off to either Maps or Waze to get you going there.

Do you know where I can get this installed in NYC and can I hook up screens in the back to play movies for the kids ???

Unfortunately, being in Albany, I'm not familiar with any installers in NYC. That being said, if you read my HowTo link in the description, it really not a hard install. Also, I believe they can connect to the rear screens via the additional inputs but I don't have screens so I can't speak to it personally.

How do you go about switch back between the Infiniti infotainment screen and the Vline screen? Do you just switch between the USB input?

The VLine is just the iPod input. So if you want to switch to DVD or AUX or BT, you simply do so like you did before you installed the VLine.

@@DoomFinger511 Correct. You will connect it to the USB port on the VLine instead, and use Apple iTunes or whatever to play. I haven't really tested this as I prefer my Google Play Music account which has all of the music my iPod does plus much much much more.

So there's an adapter that plugs into the USB port of the car for the vline to work

No, the VLINE takes over the USB port of your car effectively but you can plug your USB device into the VLINE itself afterwards.
