Put buckwheat down on May 28th and haven’t gotten any rain since. Seed going to be ok on top of the soil? Looks like rain 10th or 11th in SW Wisconsin. Sprayed the rye at time of broadcasting buckwheat.

Same here. I’m crossing my fingers. Would really like that cover crop for the fall planting otherwise may be a rye plot again. Last year drought killed me in the fall planting. This year it may have got my buckwheat. Good thing I don’t do this for a living!

Do you have any recommendation for killing horsetail? That's the one weed i have an issue with. Tilling it isn't always the best option as it's usually too wet to access the plots with the tractor.

Can you pm me a picture If it is what I think it is 2-4d and plant grains

What seeds typically don't need to be rolled-in (packed) or drilled in? Just wondering if I may need to get a roller to help aid in planting.
@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663
Usually the small seeds like brassicas and clovers may be able to be broadcasted and rain does the rest. Rye and sometimes buckwheat as well. But, general rule is the size of the seed is the depth it should be planted.

What is your November/December recommendation for seed/blends? Northern Maine, very cold-almost always below freezing temps, low deer density, rifle/muzzle loader only hunts, lots of equipment to use with Firminator and International 510 grain planter. Currently using soybeans, oats, and brassicas....looking for additional options.

How big is the plot
@JackFrostTheDeerHunter
@JackFrostTheDeerHunter Год назад
@@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 4 acres, 3 acres, and 2 acres, and 3/4 acre
@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663
@@JackFrostTheDeerHunter brassica blend in 1/2 the plots And fall forage blend with red clover in the others We can cut down on radishes as they become popsicles in cold weather/climates and usages becomes less. You can do some beans for pods if you can get them to last until season

@@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 Thank you. I will clean up my current seed and get with you for next seasons to finalize the fall forage blend. Perhaps a trial run for this fall too. I have 50 lbs of red clover to use, so I got that covered.
