We have had a really tough time with this unit on our pool lanai. The lettuce grows well but beans, cucumbers, tomatoes and green beans have failed miserably even when the instructions have been followed meticulously. They now ask that I move the unit oustide the pool screen to better polinate the seedlings that need it. Well that is a no go for sure as the seedlings are advertised as self polinating. Heck, they can be grown indoors as well. I see your unit is in the greenhouse and seems to be doing great. I will do a reset and clean the unit and give it another chance, but if it fails me again, then it will be an expensive paperweight on my deck sadly. We have the 36 plant unit and with many empty holes they are telling me to plug those as they allow light into the unit which can cause mold/algar buildup (although I don't see any). They also tell me that if you don't have many of the ports filled with a seedling, that the other plants can get over-fertilized. Hmmm... never said anything about that before prurchasing. Growing your own seedlings would be they way to go to save you the $$$ as they charge $2.50 per seedling and that adds up (especially if your growing experience is not a good one). All in all... I would buy a smaller unit and see how it goes if you choose this route. Just want folks to know that their are folks who may not have such a good experience even though they are following the included instructions to they letter! Be well...

When she said the space needed is 3 by 3, and the annotation corrected her to say it's only 2 by 2, the annotation is wrong, because it's only counting the exact footprint of the unit, and not acknowledging that the plants spread out beyond the footprint and the 3 by 3 estimate is probably already a bit small, especially if growing big leafy produce like chard, tomatoes, peppers, spinach, etc; the plant stands look at least 2x as big with plants maturing in them. Still it's a very helpful and inspiring video! 🌱😊

Thanks for the video! Are the plugs you started your own seeds in a good fit for the LG cups that come with the system? Is what you harvested towards the end of the video from your own seedlings? Thanks again!

We are off-grid, running all our power on solar, so I can't give you a great answer for that one, sorry

I'm curious if you think it saves money on groceries at some point or if it's always just a luxury.

Honestly at 12 plants it doesn't save money. If you do eat vegetables (ones that grow well in hydroponics) and you grow 36 at a time, then it does save you money. However, with the high start up costs, it takes longer to break even with a lettuce grow. Look at the Chena Grow Tower. It does the same thing and runs about $150 to $175 start up cost. Then you can still order nutrients and seeds from lettuce grow. You break even and start saving money much faster.

I think it definitely saves money on groceries at some point, and I think that point will be different for everyone. For us, probably sooner than other, because a part of our "grocery budget" is gas for driving over an hour to get them (since we live in the middle of nowhere). It also saves us money on water and takes up so much less space than traditional gardening, which is a huge win!

@@riversongtiny2025 I'm curious to try some other systems. But for me the start up cost of the lettuce grow was worth it because it truly is all-in-one, unlike many of the other ones I researched where you had to buy an extra storage tank for the water for example or the timer, pipes or a water pump. The design of the lettuce grow means that the entire system only takes 4 square feet of space and can grow 36 plants. But to be honest we grow a bit more than 36 becuase we grow 2 to 3 kale plants for example in the same pod (and they do great like that). as an eco and socially conscious person, I also like that lettuce grow's farmstand is made of recycled plastic and they donate a system for every 10 sold. So those were all factors for me as well.

@@riversongtiny2025 From what I saw, you totally make the Chena Grow Tower yourself from buckets? It looks like a lot of work, and it doesn’t have the beauty of the Farmstand, but I can see for someone super handy, and who isn’t concerned with how it looks, how this could be a great option! I want one in my kitchen, and I love how pretty the Farmstand one is!

Sorry, I appreciate the efforts put into this video but, I have to say it - I could not watch the entire clip because of the annoying emphasis put on the last syllable of virtually every sentence.
