I have Agapanthus here in East Texas (Zone 8b). They have done great in the ground every year until this year. The top part froze during this last snow and freezing temps for a week. I'm praying the roots are still alive. We'll see.

I'm in rockport tx, and mine froze down all the way as well, but they are already popping up new growth. I have very sandy soil not sure if that helped save them.

I am in 7b/8a (depends on which map you look at). I planted these in ground about two years ago and they have thrived in a shady part of my garden that gets a lot of flooding during the summer. I love the blooms. They will get more sun this year since I finally cut back the nearby crepe myrtles. They have not died back despite a few hard freezes. Leaves are green all year. There are several planted at the front of my neighborhood. They blooms get very big. At least four feet from the ground. I think they have been there for many many years.

I live in zone 8b in Mississippi. I have some Agapanthus that I have left in the pots for the past 3 years not brought them inside and they have come back. I don't have a garage or cold spot to place them so I have to hope and pray they survive every year. This past year I brought some and decided to be a rebel like P Allen and I placed them in the ground. Our temperatures got down into the teens this past Winter storm. I do see life in spots popping up amongst the dead foliage. I absolutely fell in love with this plant when I first saw it about 3 years ago at the Welcome Center in Biloxi, MS. They are expensive so I have to wait until I catch a mark down plant at Lowe's.

@P. Allen Smith, I'd love to hear an update on how they did--the ones you planted (pot-less) in the ground! I'm in 8a and planted a few of the Southern Living varieties last year. So far, it looks like all of them survived winter and early spring frosts, and many have started pushing new growth.

I've been growing Agapanthus for 10 in containers around my pool in southeast Georgia. They never die back, bloom beautifully and multiply like crazy.

So true. When I visited Venezuela, these lilies were growing "wild " in the mountain areas. I thought surely I can grow them here in the high desert. Well you have challenged me to give it another try. I'll keep them in containers and move them to my garage in the cold winter. Thank you. I love the agapanthus.

Agapanthus - another I forget about until I see them blooming. I have a couple large pots from which I transplanted some perennials into the garden this year. I'll put some agapanthus there. Another beautiful summer bloomer. Thanks.

I love experimenting in the garden. I try to grow something new every year. it's pretty exciting! One year I tried to grow pigeon peas in my zone 5 it didn't work but it was a good experience and I learned a lot. Another one I tried figs. It worked and it didn't. My figs survived the winter but, the fruits always get killed by the frost. This year I'm digging them up and, I'm going to put them in pots to get them inside when the first frost hits. Gardening its all about experimentation and learning. Thanks for sharing! Have a blessed and wonderful day. ❤🙏

I planted my first Lily of the Nile last Fall here in Texas and after the freeze, it’s greening up already. If it lags, I’ll switch it to a pot. 🌱 Great video, beautiful plant!

I live in zone 8a. I planted my agapanthus in the ground. They produced green healthy leaves, but no flowers. After the recent cold snap, the leaves lost their color, so I cut off all the dead stuff. I will take them out of the ground and try them in pots.

I've got 2 of these in the ground, zone 9a Florida. They didn't bloom the first year, hoping they will this year. BUT, I'll definitely replant them into pots placed in the ground if they don't. THANKS for the clever tip!!! Hope you are having a lovely week! 🥰

I saw this beautiful plant for first time @ Epcot in Orlando...Found some " accidentally"@ a small family run nursery. He had a lot of old fashion perennials also. Tried for 3 yrs to grow in ground in my zone 8. No luck but now after watching..guess what is going into pots this year?

I always do that too, plant Agapanthus in pots in the ground! In early winter I take the pot out and store it in the Garage.

I live in Zone 5 in the great lakes.....I purchased an agapanthus in summer 2022 and it spent the winter in my house. This summer which was very hot for us it spent the summer in a pot on my patio. It has doubled in size and is now blooming.....This winter I will put it in my heated garage which we keep at about 40F.....I want more!
