I’m the most impressed with the fact they figured that there were only four “collectors” (who we now know are the Archivists) and didn’t assume they were in the hundreds like others had predicted!
It doesn’t feel like Collector was forced to collaborate on a plan to genocide everyone on the Boiling Isles. It’s true that Belos made a false promise to open his prison. But Collector knew everyone was going to end up dead and was fine with it; he even made a little poem about it. Then he called out Belos killing his cloned nephews over and over again, and he just seemed to think it was funny.
@@jiado6893 It's mainly because the Collector seems to lack a sense of identidy, in a way. Depending on what game they're playing, they will change and act according to it. With Phillip, the collector saw how Phillip isn't a good guy, like, at all, and does a lot of bad stuff, the Collector then saw that as "playing as the villain" and decided to act all evil, i mean, once Phillip reveals that he wasn't going to keep his promise, the Collector way of talking suddently changed and he started to act more like a child, not trying to rhym at all. Like his appearence, he is impressionable just like a child, if someone who they consider as they friend acts or talk a certain way, they will adapt to it, now with King, a child like him, he will not need to put an act anymore thanks to both beings kids. Also, yeah, he was pretty much forced, think bout their story again. They've been alone, for like, THOUSANDS of years, in one of King's "dreams", you can clearly see that they're scared of being alone again and it's desperate for someone to play with them, once he heard King, he didn't want him to go, so yeah, he had only two options, being alone for god knows how long, or trust Phillip. The Collector being okay with everyone dying isn't... Okay, but as an immortal being who's also a child with no sense of consequences, we can see as to why he didn't think much bout the consequences of the spell as the only thing he wanted was to be free and have a friend to play with, but we know he's aware that some things are bad since he seemed to feel bad or sad once they mention how King's entire species was killed because of their magic to weaken the Collectors.
It’s cool to see the backstory and origin behind the original group of collectors who seemed to come to the titans to try to put them in monster scrolls and, when they refused, tried to intimidate them with their super abilities until they realized that a titan's power can counter that of a collector's. It’s sad seeing how our current little collector seemed to really love titans and find their hatchlings adorable, but everything fell apart when the collectors decided to commit genocide upon titan kind...
OHHH THIS IS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! I love how you portray their story and on beat with the song so well! My favorite part is at 2:20 where everyone has their eyes covered by shadows looking at the collector with the exception of Luz….she’s the only one looking at them with no shades of shadows on her eyes, seeing him for what he is.
i think its because, the collector knows luz's name, but he also sees hunter gus willow and amity as just "luz's friends" so they wouldn't be recognizable since the collector see's that as "side characters". he doesn't really know their names, he just thinks they are some silly backup to luz's plan. but the collector knows who luz is and what she wants to do, she wants to take king back. and luz is the villain in his story, and he really wants to make a custom redemption ark for her so that they can play. but only luz. so if he knows what luz wants and who she is as the main character, then he would see her eyes.
@@OLD_ACC713 true! Another thing is that I wanted to show Luz's view on the collector slowly changing through the course of the video too. From what she knew about them from hollow mind and then taking King away, to sympathizing with him, so this scene adds on to that transition basically
damn…. this really puts into perspective how the collector is just a kid who’s probably been manipulated his entire life, and all he wants is a genuine friend. it makes him seem more innocent, which is really interesting also, i love this art style so much, i’d honestly die to read a comic or something in this style. the way you draw the collector with buck teeth is so cute!!
I love how this actually is still close to how watching and dreaming plays out! The collector is definitely my favourite character, how he’s shown here is gorgeous
Man watching this after watching and dreaming, they really were just a kid. SPOILERS: Luz mentioning how the collector didnt have a concept of death then actually dying trying to protect Collector was probably such a painful wake up call. It puts into perspective that they really were *just a kid.* Bravo on this, it sums it up perfectly even though it came out before the episode lmao
2:09 I love the way Luz was drawn here, it's not only funny, but depicts how The Collector saw Luz. 2:16 tells a different story. Everybody seems mad at The Collector, but Luz is just staring at them. She genuinely looks like she feels bad, and she probably does.
Holy crap. How'd you put the entire history of one God in less than 2 minutes? And so beautifully made too. It's like a whole rundown on The Collector and showing everyone their motives and how easy it is to make mess based on a misunderstanding. You, are awasome!
This entire thing is incredible but something I really really want to point out is the colors. I really started to pay attention to the colors the first time I watched it at 0:40 when the contrast was really obvious, and then again at 1:12 where the colors keep changing and the green caught my eye. At the start The Titans and Collectors were all black & white on a colorful blue, purple & orange background: obviously, the colors of our Little Collector, which is already great in and of itself because we love our Collector but it also just makes the art look really nice. I think it's especially effective in the frames where our Collector is one of the only colored parts. He stands out and is isolated from the rest of the picture in a way. (0:49, 0:52 & 0:57) Then 1:02 and 1:05 are the dullest parts of the first segment, the colors darkened from the vibrant shades that've been used so far, corresponding to our Collector's mental state in those moments. And as I mentioned before, at 1:09 that changes, and now there's green, too, completely altering the mood. When the middle part with Philip comes in, 1:20, the colors are even more desaturated, with the exception of the Collector's star doodles at 1:24. The Collector themselves are in their shadow form now, so even they are colorless. Not only does this make the cave seem dark, but it's also just... generally the aura any place with Philip is going to have, lol. Also, it could also correspond with our Collector's mental state, at least in hindsight when they've realized that Philip was using them. Notably, the value is even throughout the whole segment until 1:33, when King comes in, bringing back the brighter colors with him, which is again suitable for the way our Collector should be feeling right about now. The colors are still not as bright as in the beginning, still more similar to the middle segment, but now there're yellows instead of just the gloomy blues from before. (Compare 1:31 with 1:37) By the point our Collector has taken over, 1:44, the colors go back to how they were at the beginning. Blues and purples, black and white, and occasional orange. Since the part starting at 2:02 basically recaps what's already happened, it makes sense. We get the same pallette as the beginning as we see the Collectors again. Then Philip is as dull as ever! I think my favorite part, the one I give the most importance to, is that at 2:11 we go BACK to the Philip colors as (at least in our Collector's point of view) King essentially BECOMES Philip! It's perfect! 2:14 is unique. I don't think there's been a single frame all in oranges/orange-adjacent coloring until this. There were a few very orange frames at the start, but something about them was different (maybe because they had a lot of white, which this one has none of.) It definitely works to catch your eye as a frame that stands out from the rest, which is good since it lasts so long compared to the others. There ought to be something special about it to catch your attention. It looks nice. And then it all comes together for the perfect ending, 2:30. I don't know how to say this other than to say that I don't think it would have worked if the colors were more normal. Our Collector is isolated again as the only blue in the frame, and then joins the other, yellow-lineart characters and just, like, belongs I guess. I'm not sure how much of it is completely intentional, how much was subconscious, or how much I'm just overthinking it, but sometimes people can do something genius by pure accident anyways, so I don't think it really matters whether or not it was all perfectly planned out. In any case - fantastic job! (Edited to fix a timestamp)
Oh man this was so fun to read, technically I used the colours with multiple intentions in mind so you wouldn't be wrong about any really Plus adding onto the ending part with the collector being blue, it's supposed to represent his mind being controlled by belos (with his blue eyes at the back too, watching and waiting for him to make a move) and collector looking at the puppetifying moon in his hand, lets go of it and joins the other side (literally lol) and isn't blue anymore (not controlled by belos)
@@dlsintigrating7956 Aaaah yeah I thought the eyes were a Belos thing! I didn't notice the connection with the blue though or the puppetifying moon. That's so cool! I'm surprised I missed something like that though with how long my comment ended up being lol I love the symbolism with the blue then too! When I was writing the comment I wasn't too sure about what meaning the colors could have in that part so it's nice to have an answer to that. Knowing that makes the end even more satisfying, little Collector deserves to get away from that dude forever
What a superb animatic! I love the section of 2:07 to 2:09 as it really sums a lot about the Collector. They're so desperate to cling onto King, who looks much like a doll here, showing how they treat him more like a possession than an equal because they're so afraid to let go of him. Luz looms over as a threat who will take King away from them, but the fact the drawing is done in crayon helps highlight how childlike and innocent the Collector is.
Not sure if anyone hasn't pointed it out yet but in 2:15 You can see that Luz is the only one who's eyes arent covered/against the collector. which is a pretty neat detail!
This has to be the best GRRRLS animation I've seen yet! The fact you animated through the whole song, and had it hit every feeling grit and sense of weighted lore into the story is so amazing! I love the way you interpreted the Titans too, they look so epic and the other Collectors so much more terrifying! Thrilling yet pensive, that's honestly the best way to describe this work. The stylization and visual nods to the story is everything 🍂🙏🏿✨
I already loved The Collector, but I LOVE this way of viewing them. This animation is SO GOOD and coherent and it looks like there was a lot of effort put in. AND you got it out before the series ends! That’s impressive. Respect.
THIS JUST CEMENTED MY LOVE AND EMPATHY FOR THE COLLECTOR. The way everything was portrayed here is canon, until proven otherwise. It seems WAY too accurate, and real. Alongside that, the art style is *chef's kiss* sooo Good! I love the key detail where in Collector's perspective, Luz is a meanie that wants to steal king. And how King will abandon him too for Luz. This is so good, the song surprisingly fit too :D
This so beautifully made. The story, the colours and even the artstyle. All of it is so amazing, definitely my new favourite animatic for The Owl House.
2:08. Ok. This part I feel just stood out to me the most as it depicts the Collectors perspective on Luz as a person. The way he protectively hugs the "King" doll from the "evil banshee" scribble figure Luz trying to "take" his best friend away....😢😢😢❤
OMG THIS IS JUST AMAZING!!! I LOVED THE STYLE, THE COLORS, THE WAY YOU TELLED THIS LITTLE STORY... EVERYTHING'S PERFECT!!! IT MADE ME FEEL SO BAD FOR THE COLLECTOR. Like, he's just a kid! Just think about being a playful kid and being trapped for YEARS completely alone. I know some people want The Collector to be defeated, but I do hope my kid get a redemption arc. Good job!
2:00 THIS PART! God i could go on about it forever. A literal God, being controlled and betrayed by everyone aand everything he has ever loved, because at the end of the day he is just a child. PERFECTION!
I'm back after watching big finale and gotta say, this aged so well like a fine wine. You even portrayed Collector's past with older collectors and titans PERFECTLY. ❤
OH MY GOD!!! After watching the finale "Watching and Dreaming" this video is SOOOO fitting! I can't remember, was Collector's backstory told before, or Author predicted it?
The collector is so underrated. Everyone blames him for everything and doesn't bother to get to know him. It's that sort of stereotype that gets others everytime. 😞
The lyrics!!! They match up so so well!! Some of my personal highlights are as follows: 0:05 “Fake faces hiding everywhere” The Collectors wearing expressionless grins, reminiscent of theater masks. 0:11 “To hide their stolen air.” The Collectors appear on the word “stolen”, implying they’re strangers in the Titans’ world. 0:14 “Don’t you dare.” A warning. If our Collector dares to be friendly with the young Titans, consequence will befall him. 0:48 This entire segment! 1:24 “If you care.” It matches up with the Collector’s joy at seeing another living being who just may care about them. 1:29 “Snake oil, traitors, no one shares.” “Snake oil” appearing at Phillip’s face, representing his slippery-ness and how he’s able to easily charm the Collector, the Boiling Isles, and others. “Traitors” is sung when our Collector asks if Phillip will free him, foreshadowing the latter’s betrayal. “No one shares” as they make the promise. 1:43 this segment, with Raine-Belos appearing at the echoed lines, emphasizing parallels with the Collector and Belos, and how Belos uses those parallels to manipulate them. 2:11 “I’ll never sing along! I’ll never sing along!” Showing King makes it seem like he’s speaking to the Collector, or rather, what the Collector imagines his friend would say. The laughter afterwards punctuates their feeling of betrayal.
ok I LITERALLY LOVE THIS TYSM FOR POINTING THESE OUT Though all of these were intentional I didn't even think deeply to how the snake oil traitors line is perfect for that part 😭 (I knew it resonated with it but didn't think too much of it, your take on it is perfect!)
Aw hell yeah, now this is a good comment! Loooove what you said about 1:29 and 1:43!! Seriously this animatic is so good, love to see it getting analyzed
This is spectacular It must have taken ages!!!! It tells his entire backstory perfectly, im so impressed. Probably my favourite owl house animatic to be honest, it’s just so lovely and uugghhh I’m obsessed especially the bit at 2:00 where it just recaps everything so smoothly and oh my lord I love this so much
AAAHHAGHAHUGHHH???? This is so good??? I love how you do colors and line art and your collector design is so NICE to look at!! The way you depict the Collector’s story is so beautiful and heartbreaking AAAUGHHH !!!!! The animated bit at 2:04 is so smooth and amazing oh my GODDDD. I just realized you put in the “Titans against Collector” banners 2:20 OW. I like how your put the actual GRRRLS meme part at 0:49 (noticed it immediately lol, animation meme phase stays with you forever). I love how at the King’s Tide part the colors get all desaturated and kinda resembles their original color palette. God I hope the Collectors story actually ends up like your ending. I could write so much more I will be thinking about this forever. You did such a great job!!
I literally was like "WOW THEY ANIMATED THIS SO FAST AFTER THE FINALE- ..... A month ago-? ..WHAT." I actually thought a month passed without me realizing and I was in a time skip 😭
while I was watching the latest toh episode I had a deja vu to this because a couple of shots are almost identical to the show, that I actually thought the animators were sneaking them in!! then I remember this is only four weeks old and it couldn't have been possible JDJDJSJJ honestly it makes this even more impressive! the shots I'm talking about are the one at 0:14 where the little titans dance around the collector, and the shot at 2:02 where the three archivists are looking down at the collector. the scene in "watching and dreaming" is the one where the collector is hugging their knees after king, eda and luz beat all of his games, and they are recalling the story of how the archivists wiped out the titans and how he got imprisoned
I just cannot stop watch it is s cool and reflects exactly collector's trauma and mind, also is crazy how people put so much expectation and pressure in a little guy- just aaaaaa bring him a good family like mama Camila and Eda.
I am gasping and my eyes are wide. So smooth animation. The emotions are so big here and you really portrayed the Collector as a lonely, betrayed, neglected kid. The different art styles and how you play with the canvas is amazing. Wow.
I am very surprised by the style, the skill of animation(animatic) and such a beautiful disclosure of the story! It was so awesome, like it was upgraded part of a cartoon 💜
It's been 8 months, and I still can't believe how good this is. Every time I watch it, I find a new small detail I never noticed before, and I love it.
Holy cow, that's incredible! Love the way you presented their story. My favorite part is between 2:00 and 2:14, that transitions are so nice. Also just the way you draw Collector is so precious. Love the ending too, so sweet!
This is incredible!! All the details, from Luz being the only one with her eyes not blocked out besides the Collector, the Collector playing with all the little Titans and the scripture?! This is insane!
