In this episode we’ll be taking a look at GT Omega’s enhanced pedal tray for the GT Omega Prime sim rig. Now I’ve loved the Prime rig and still use the stock wheel plate even now but it does have a ridiculously flimsy pedal tray. Well with this upgrade that is no longer the case so let’s find out how it performs.
Testing
With the pedal plate in place the next job was to jump into a car and give it all a go. I felt no movement from the mounts which I used 4 bolts on. GT Omega supplies you enough for more so if you feel like you need the extra comfort of these then use as many as you need, however it was all solid for me. Talking of solid, the lack of flex which I had grown used to was small but noticeable. It certainly was helping with consistency under braking. I had thought moving to this pedal plate would reduce the effects of the bass shakers but that doesn’t appear to be the case with me being able to feel them quite well through my heel and the pedal arms. I will note however that I could also hear the vibration a little more through the floor which might annoy people if you are in a flat.
Final Thoughts
This pedal plate, officially branded as the Prime Pedal Plate+ is a fantastic upgrade over the stock GT Omega Prime one. It does appear to be a direct clone of Sim Lab’s pedal base used in the P1-X but with some lighter weight profile in use. It’s a shame it scratches so easily and it would have been nice if GT Omega would supply some M6 fixings to make this compatible with Heusinkveld pedals. The lack of flex and high variability of mounting positions makes this a must-have upgrade for original prime users sporting load cell pedals. This quality comes at a price though with the pedal plate costing around £100 and weighing in more than the combined weight of my children. This pricing puts the Plate+ at a slight reduction over the Sim-Lab one but there are a few minor compromises in the product to make that possible, including thinner profile and the painted finish.
The rig floor that GT Omega makes for the prime rig is a very tight squeeze when using this pedal upgrade and unfortunately for me that meant I had to remove it despite purchasing it recently. Maybe I’ll modify it to make it all fit but worth noting for those of you owning that lovely piece of checker plate.
The pedal plate is great then and a worthy upgrade over the Prime’s stock solution. It isn’t flawless though and you’ll have to consider that when opting to use this upgrade. It should be compatible with most other 8040 sim rigs and if nothing else gives you another option to think about.
